Food was good. Greens that came with jollof was delicious. Service is abysmal. They brought most of our food out and forgot one of our dishes so we had to walk to the kitchen to ask about it and they still never brought it. Food took a while to come out. It was busy but would have appreciated communication atleast. I think our server left in the middle of our stay and no one check in on us afterwards.

The worker was very very rude when taking my order, and honestly lost a customer. The food is good but the beef in the soup is cold. And they are very very slow making the food. I do a call in order and still wait 20/30 minutes. Customer service is terrible.

Google
It’s very rare that I ever leave a review, but for this one I will. It was my family and I first time in Dallas and we came to dine in at this restaurant. When we walked in we weren’t even greeted. We were just standing there to see if we were going to be seated somewhere, but we had to go up front to the guy for him to tell us that we can sit anywhere. We ordered our food which was even over priced and we waited for a while to be served. The food wasn’t that good. We had to go get our own drinks and had to open our bottle drinks with our teeth .The vegetables we ordered (pondu) tasted like it wasn’t cooked the same day. The fish, chicken, goat, suya, Jollef rice was spicy (it would have been nice to be asked if we wanted the food to be spicy or not). We ate what we could and we were ready to pay and the guy was so rude. He didn’t even bring the check to us at the table. He was seated in the front and asked how many drinks we got and what was the payment method and told us to come to him. Also when it was time to pay we didn’t even get a receipt and he just told us the price of the food ( what we ate didn’t even go with the price ). We definitely won’t be dining at this place ever. If I could give this review a 0 I would. It doesn’t even deserve a 1 star. I wouldn’t recommend anyone to dine in there.

I wanted to try African food so I tried it for the first time today. We ordered the stew with fufu, samosas and fried plantains. They have a 4.2 stars review on doordash so we went for this restaurant. We did not get the fried plantains in our order. For $36, i thought the stew must be a big portion. There were only 6 pieces of meat. Also, on doordash, it doesnt indicate that the dish is spicy. I dont think the meal was worth $36. That was a bad first experience with African food. I will give it another chance from a different restaurant. I do not recommend this place.

Google
I came to Texas to visit from Minnesota hoping to get some good authentic African food. I ordered cassava leaf and white rice. Instead I left with potatoe greens with hard smoked chicken. When I actually ordered my food with two meats chicken and beef but only received one. I definitely could tell the meat was not cooked with the soup and it had no seasoning. Thank goodness for the hot pepper sauce that I asked for to have some type of flavor to the soup. I also ordered beef skewers and they were hard. I don't even think my dog could chew it. I generally will not give ppl negative comments but it was disappointing. Had I not drove 45 minutes and stayed closer to the restaurant I would have asked for a refund.

Google
For 2 meals is came out to be about $60 which is AMAZING !!! The food taste so authentic , it’s cooked upon order so everything is Hot and fresh . and we NEVER have a problem with the food . If you don’t know what to get I’d recommend the Egusi with assorted meat (right corner in the picture below) or the Eru with goat (left corner in the picture below) the Egusi is a very flavorful and is my go to . If you’d like something with spice go with the Eru . The Eru is a spinach dish that has a spicy kick of flavor with just enough spiciness - not to overwhelming …..and both of those come with yam fufu . We drove 45 minutes just to get to African village and it was well worth it EVERYONE is welcomed and the workers will explain to you what the dishes are if you are a first timer . if I could give more than 5 stars I would .

Google
The food is too expensive and the service is horrible as well. A simple dish will cost you $27 and if you order fish or fufu it will cost you $20 then it will take you more than two hours to be served. I too my wife here for a lunch and we had wait for more than two hours to get served because there’s one man who’s the Chef, waiter and a cashier himself. A simple meal for two of us costed $100.00. You can get a better deal and better service somewhere else. Africans like to overcharge almost anything and they delivers a very poor service as well.

Google
The goat meat is always tender the flavor is authentic. The spice is perfection, I asked if they could mix a dish something they normal don’t do and got a surprise 🤗 made my long day end beautifully!!! My favorite African restaurant hands down.

Yelp
Amazing food. Great service. Easy parking. It was my first time at African Village. I will definitely come back. I was craving that rich flavor meal I grew up eating. I for sure got that. Egusi was amazing. It came out steaming hot. It was painful waiting a few minutes for the food to cool down because I wanted to eat it right away. But it's not good to complain about food being too hot. There was ample seating. The server was attentive and courteous. When I walked in there was a black cowboy riding a Rodeo on TV. So assume this may be a great place to watch sports and eat. Make sure to order an Indian Malta with your food. There was a wide variety of food selections on the menu. So it's a good idea to reviews the menu prior to coming. See images attached. I will be back for the awesome food.

Yelp
Food: 10/10 Service: 7/10 Ambiance: inapplicable...it literally doesn't matter Nothing new here because the food is still HITTING! I tried the fish this time. Forever a gem.

Princess D.

Yelp
Order Okra soup, the entire soup melted through the styrofoam container. So the entire soup was wasted in the bag. Horrible container placement!! I'm really pissed about this!

Tia M.

Yelp
my mom my sisters and I came here on a whim and we're so happy with our experience. The food did not disappoint we are from Florida and have yet to find a place like this at home.

Allonia T.

Yelp
Ordered Egusi soup from this restaurant. Ate it and ended up in hospital for 3 days. After I ate the food went into anaphylaxis shock. Almost died. Had eaten the same dish from this establishment for over 7 years. Never got sick except for this time. Don't know what they changed in the recipe but it was deadly to me and I don't have any food allergies. Will never eat from there again. Be forewarned.

Sam B.

Yelp
I've never had African food before and this was not what I was expecting. Very inviting flavors that are still rich and delicious. The stew tasted like a consomé and the goat fell of the bone. Very similar to a birria flavor with a little bit of a twist. Definitely would have this again.

Freddy N.

Yelp
Food: I gave this place 3 chances, and only once was the food well prepared and fresh (only because it was catered). It seems like their food is frozen and then microwaved. Service: They got all my orders wrong. What led me to place this review is the fact that I placed an order over the phone, drove 30 mins to get there, and my order was not yet submitted. To make it worse, they told me that what I had ordered wasn't available, so they asked me to completely change my order.

Sarah F.

Yelp
Finding Eru around town is hard, so naturally I come get my fix at African Village! But all in all, I always have a pleasant but quick exchange with the staff, music is always blasting on the speakers, there is always a random group of guys having one type of meeting or another, the food is always spicy and I always leave full and happy! You can't beat it! They did SURGE their pricing with no notice. But the flavors are so bomb that I'll just pop in from time to time.

Marie D.

Yelp
The food was amazing the nice piano in the back really ties the environment together, the service is the best I've ever had. Definitely would recommend!!!!

Michelle B.

Yelp
Was super excited to try this place because food is more Ghanaian-leaning. Drove from mckinney to Irving to be disappointed. Pros: Jollof was decent. Tilapia was great! Okroh stew was great but meat portion was lil bit off( a lot of skin, not a lot of meat)! We had this spinach side that was bomb!!So the problem wasn't the food so much Cons: service is super super poor which is sad given how good the food is. Water is not free. They don't tell you it will be charged to you which I have never seen before in my life. Also we ordered 2 items we never got, went to the kitchen window after 20 mins of not getting it with our other food to ask for it, and they brought only one of the two dishes out and said nothing and did nothing about the other dish. I think our server legit left in the middle of our meal. Like we saw her leave. I know places are understaffed by man I have never seen service as bad as this. Other African places may not always have the best service but nowhere as messy as this. I'll probably try coming again in the future and hope things can improve bc the food is decent and they have dishes other places don't. Hope things get better

Yelp
Location: This restaurant is nestled into the little shopping strip next to "Texas Thrift" in Irving. Their sign does not light up, so it may be hard to see in the evening. They had their "Open" neon sign off, and it was hard to see if they were open through the windows from the parking lot due to all their signage posted along their windows. Don't let this hinder you from giving them a try! Try the door anyway! Atmosphere: Ad soon as we walked in, we were greeted by very loud music. If you do not enjoy loud music, this could be overwhelming for you, but I enjoyed the fun atmosphere it created for me! The music was very upbeat, had a great bass to it, and was rich with Congolese influence. I think it added to my dining experience tremendously (in a very good way!) Service: We came on a Friday night at 6pm, in a party of 6 (4 adults, 2 babies). There was 1 waitress and 1 cook. The waitress ran the register, sat guests, took orders, ran food, helped cook food in the kitchen, and cleaned tables!! She is a SUPERSTAR! We learned later that the restaurant is owned by her grandmother. Her family should be very proud of her, for she did a fabulous job with a GREAT attitude, and was so kind and sweet to everybody. Food quality: This was my first time experiencing African food, and let me just say that I couldn't have had a better first experience! I wanted to try Fufu so badly, and it did not have any flavor when I ate it by itself but once used as a vessel to dip into my cassava leaves dish, it yielded a very fatty yam-like flavor that elevated the rest of my food nicely. Their Jollof rice was good, but I feel like it was not the star of the show. Their greens served with their tilapia tasted delicious! Their grilled tilapia and their salt fish dishes were difficult for me to eat, but enjoyable flavors. Their chicken is an absolute slam dunk! A MUST-TRY!! Their chicken and their cassava leaves dish with ugali fufu were my favorite. If you don't know what to order, try those!! Price: With the rising cost of meat, I understood why their prices were so high. The quality of their dishes as well as the phenomenal portions were SO worth it!!! Service was also 5-stars, so with tip and the fried tilapia, Jollof rice, greens, smoked chicken, cassava leaves, ugali fufu, salt fish, and a sofa, it brought me up to about $88. I ordered a lot of food and I feel like although it was more expensive than I would typically spend on dinner, I was happy to pay that amount with all things considered. If you have not had African food, Congolese food, I urge you to come give this place a try. Hands down one of my favorite new foods I've tried. I can't wait to come back and order something different next time!

Lindsay M.

Yelp
I have been coming here for a few months, last time i came was in July for my typically eugsi soup. To my surprise the price has skyrocketed from $14 to $24. At least update your prices online for awareness or increase the portions.

Ashley H.

Yelp
The food smelled so bad, I couldn't eat it. I tried one bite and threw away the rest. My Nigerian friend brought me here, and he said it was awful too and couldn't eat more than 2 bites. I heard the staff speaking French...clearly they aren't Nigerian. Horrible experience, I will never go back. This place should not be open.

Cindy C.

Yelp
The worst restaurant in DFW. The prices are twice as much as you see in Yelp. I seriously hate that I almost dismissed egusi and fufu because of this place. I have a dog who breaks out of the house and eats dead animals. I tried to give her the food, and she turned it down. That's how awful this place is. I was given 2 cups of flavorless, cringe worthy egusi with one ball of fufu. $25. An order of jollof rice which tasted like rice mixed with tomato sauce. Two Heinekens and was billed over $50. I think they stay in business due to the grocery side which carried imported goods. Not sure how else. Please skip this place! They should be embarrassed to represent West Africa this poorly.

Shaynii W.

Yelp
Maybe I'm mistaken but I purchased 1 egusi soup with fufu and 1 goat pepper soup with fufu and my bill was $47.99. Totally overpriced when I called the restaurant back and talked to waitress she told me the owner did not update her prices on the menu. Really! I won't be returning as it was overpriced and not worth the money!

Sara Y.

Yelp
I had to really think about writing this post because I used to love this place. We witnessed the workers clean the dirty tables, including our table, with just a dry and regular napkin. And then took out the trash, then proceeded to go in the kitchen and put both of his hands in the bowl to mix something. He didn't wash his hands, didn't wear gloves anything. The young lady wore one glove but then used it to eat and then proceeded with fixing the food. The manager really needs to implement better cleaning protocols and the use of gloves and washing of hands. We used to come her and order to go all of the time but I'm really rethinking ever coming back again because of the things I saw today.

Kennie A.

Yelp
Not pleased at all! Poor services, food turned out horrible, the server couldn't get one order right, waited over an hour before they brought one of our 4 orders. The restaurant is dirty and nothing Nigerian, don't waste your time going there!!!!

Trisha D.

Yelp
Such delicious food! The jollof rice, fufu, and egusi soup are definitely my favorites. You can't go wrong with the beignets either! The wait for the food is the only thing that got me. I recommend calling ahead of time at least by 30 minutes. They are normally super busy from 2-5PM.

Sheneka P.

Yelp
Rude customer service and doesn't have half of the items listed on menu. Caught an Uber to get here but had to leave because nothing was ready. Maybe they should change their business hours if the menu isn't going ti be ready when they open. Very disappointing!

Diamond B.

Yelp
This food was soooo GOOD the best African food I've eaten. Everything was so flavorful and delicious I'm definitely going back. Customer service was very good she made my lady and I feel like family and right at home. I would say the food is pricey and can be more meat to the plates but overall everything was great!

Tajah R.

Yelp
Food was delicious!! The only thing is I wish is that the meat to rice ratio was equal but the food is 10/10. Will be going back

Tyra B.

Yelp
One of my favorite African restaurants in the DFW area! Everyone here is so sweet, The food is amazing, and the service is always pretty quick! I usually get the Tilapia, Pondu, and fufu when I come.

Olumide G.

Yelp
Had some pounded yam with egusi soup and jollof rice with fish and greens and some vital malt. I enjoyed the meal and took a sweet nap after, it's like being back home in Lagos, Nigeria

David L.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my experience here I had the Fufu and egusie. Definitely the best that I have had in the DFW. I'll be coming back shortly to try a new menu item knowing that I will not be disappointed.

Rosney W.

Yelp
I had a craving for African food. I started with a side of plantain. I knew I wouldn't be able to finish my main course afterwards. The portion size was nice. Then I had grilled tilapia, greens and jollof rice and couldn't finish it all but it will Bea ice snack for later. The meal was perfect. Service wasn't as quick as I like but I had time and it was worth it.

Kindra T.

Yelp
Lady very rude they don't answer the phone ! I just got egusi & fufu it was 24.99 definitely not worth it !!!

Melanie K.

Yelp
EVERYTHING was delicious! I'm opposed to overly spicy food so I was pleased that my mouth wasn't on fire (except for me trying the sauce that came on the side) I will most definitely be back!

Aaron M.

Yelp
Very rich and bold flavors. Large variety of the foods across the diaspora. Love the curry. We also had the salt fish, fufu, beans, samosas, fumbwa, chapati. Service time was a bit long but everyone was kind and polite. Cassava bread was really dough. Goes well with soup. Chapati also went well with the soup. Always have to get my ginger beer, pineapple ginger drinks. I enjoyed every bite.

Beverly A.

Yelp
I ordered the grilled tilapia with jollof rice and greens. Personally, I didn't like the jollof and had to use the spicy sauce that came with the order just to somewhat enjoy it. The greens were decent and so was the tilapia. I'll have to try this place again but based on my order today, the food was average to below average.

Shad K.

Yelp
If you're ever wondering where do Africans for their flavors and rythme from and would like to know why their always smiling. Then this place is for you! The exquisite blend of spices from the motherland will give you an experience unlike no other. Their food is very rich in flavor and the spices use will leave you "coi" (Latin word for mesmerized in silence). I only gave them 3 stars, because although the food is amazing. The service delivery doesn't come close to the quality of the food. They are understaff and a simple order take way too long. We had to ask 5 times to get some to go boxes that were right in front of the staff. Overall, if you can ignore a service that needs improvement, you will enjoy a true taste of African cuisine.

Vera I.

Yelp
I was quite disappointed at this restaurant. It took 30 mins to get my food which is fine due to COVID and there was only 1 person working there including cooking the food and attending to the sitted quest. That's not a problem and doesn't count towards my opinion. The issue I had is the food was not good. I got vegetable soup with goat meat and pounded yam. The soup was only half full, it was super oily, I mean an insane amount of palm oil. Absolutely not tasty, just greasy. It cost $19 which wouldn't be a problem if the soup wasn't just half full in the bowl and at least it should taste good. This is my 2nd time coming to this restaurant and the quality of food each time has been disappointing so it's going to be my last.

Raissa K.

Yelp
Great beignets :) I have only tried the tilapia, veggies and plantains - it's delicious! The issue with this place is wait time, but please understand it's African food so it makes sense. Another issue is the phone is barely answered & at times when someone answer they hang up. Walk in, order and be nice while you wait for your food - don't go here if you are in a rush, I am saving your the headache. Give this place a chance & enjoy your food.

Fabiola A.

Yelp
I got jollof rice and it was disappointing. Aso Rock restaurant does it hundred times better. I did like their smoked chicken and suya better than Aso rock. However, Jollof rice is supposed to be a staple dish and it was so lacking in flavor.

Erica N.

Yelp
Ordered the curry goat and it was really good. Clean restaurant. Customer service is not the best but wasn't bad either.

Steve K.

Yelp
Great service the Jollof rice was good and the greens and chicken were great with the palm wine. Next best thing to Africa

J G.

Yelp
Right off the bat, I'm going to say that the African Village Restaurant COULD HAVE gotten 5 Stars if they just did the simplest action... Customer Service! The West African Food here is DELICIOUS! Though it's not South African food that I'm used to, it did remind me of the Braai (Barbeque) taste and atmosphere. My mother and I came here to end our "Mother's Day Weekend" together before she drove back home and it also reminded her of Africa and the Braai as well. The Meats were finger licking good and then some! Our platters (Beef & Goat) were complimented with Grilled Plantain Slices, Rice, a Bread Ball, Spicy Pepper Dipping Sauce and I think Cameroonian Fried Spinach. For the price we paid, it made us completely filled and happy! As for service... well... let's just say the Food made up for it! Listen, it's a hole-in-the-wall restaurant or to some a mom-n-pop shack, of course not all small, family owned business are going to perform like commercial Food & Beverage services. My tip to those visiting, BE PATIENT! Your food will come to you, HOT & DELICIOUS. Sure, you'll wait for some time for your drinks and refills... with ICE. The staff seems to be a VERY QUIET, family group and not some talkative cocktail waitress. But you WILL leave full, warm and happy!

Yolanda G.

Yelp
Food was delicious but the cook should have had help wasn't able to get everything but got the important stuff Egusi okra soup and chicken with jollof wasn't impressed by the rice everything else was the bomb

Steev B.

Yelp
This one star is only for the service. The food is great! I placed an order over the phone I asked the lady how is the total...she's like "I don't know " I am like well...I need to what the total of this order is....she's like I don't the fish is 12.99 plus tax times two plus one side of 3 dollars I don't know. I am like wow...and I just laughed....never had this type of experience before. I hope the manager reads this and take the time to train his employee.....customer service is a key to the success of a business!

Dahlyaa T.

Yelp
Best African food I ever had! I got the egusi and fufu &chicken for the safe side. Egusi was amazing very spicy but amazing

Dalanza F.

Yelp
This place is still decent and food is great. Management changed and of course the prices have gone up.

Munyaradzi M.

Yelp
Very rude servers.especially the short lady with scars on face.did not expect such unprofessionalism in service industry. The golden rule is a customer is always righr

Dennis F.

Yelp
Awesome food, the owner is so nice and welcoming. The costumer service got better. I recommend it

Jamie L.

Yelp
The food is pricey and was not good ! I ordered the chicken and it was over cooked and hard. I seen the cooker microwaving food. The rice and greens was okay. The waiter was friendly. I wouldn't recommend this place

Kwabena B.

Yelp
It takes to long to get your food once you order. They don't pick up the phone when you try to call ahead. Called several times and no answer.

Ricky H.

Yelp
African Village was my first time to have Nigerian food, but I feel safe in saying "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" The owner wanted to ensure my first experience at her restaurant was a good one, and I've always wanted to try fufu and this was my chance. I ordered the lunch special jerk chicken and asked for a side of fufu. Apparently you don't eat fufu with jerk chicken though. She could tell I wanted me some fufu though. She made my awesome chicken with rice and greens and brought me a bowl of soup and some fufu! She also brought me a few fried plantains. These items were FREE. She only charged me for the awesome jerk chicken. The food was fantastic! I was indulged in every bite of the different flavors. She even taught me how to eat fufu. This place is good enough to return to when it comes to the food, but it really felt like somebody's momma was cooking for me. Eat at African Village. This place is GREAT. Maybe I'll see you there!

Neha M.

Yelp
Hi, this is my first time having African food ever. So keep that in mind for the review. We got the okra with fufu, and the goat platter. I especially wanted to try the goat and plantains, which both were soooo delicious! It also comes with this spicy dipping sauce which i ate with the plaintains and the rice and the goat and basically everything! The okra and fufu were not my thing, but who knows, you may like it! I liked trying a different type of cuisine and the waitress was very friendly and helpful, she knew that it was our first time here and answered all our questions. It's also BYOB, and i LOVE BYOB places!!!!

Bentley B.

Yelp
Food is fresh and on point in terms of taste--I had grilled chicken on rice as well as mashed yams with okra sauce. The staff is very attentive and will even check to see if everything tastes like it should, then to ask where you learned to eat with your hands. Only downside, for a place that is completely casual with no attention paid to ambiance beyond international soccer on TV, some of the $10 and $12 menu items seem a bit pricey.

Ranka N.

Yelp
I had to attend an African themed dinner and came here for some help. Veronica guided me through the menu and was very selective on what I should bring to dinner. Needless to say, this food was the crowd favorite, it disappeared in a minute. Delicious samosas, grilled chicken, puff puffs and everything else wowed the crowd. I'll be back here to enjoy dinner with friends.

LaQuise B.

Yelp
I'm not sure where to even start. I went with some friends who really like this place. It was my first time, I ordered the beef stew off the menu which by the way all the prices had been changed and written in with an ink pen. The beef stew had $8 written in and stated it was served with rice. When it came time to pay the owner states ur totally is $12.99, I say the menu has $8. We have changed our prices and we are getting new menus, after going back and forth she raises her voice at me and states just pay what u want to pay!!! To top it off the beef stew was not that great, the flavor was good, but the meat was very tough. I will not be going back to this place. The owner is very rude and that is not how you talk to your customers, when clearly you should have menus with the correct prices, then there wont be any confusion.
