I Stayed in a Haunted Hotel in a Small Town in Nevada — Here's What It Was Like

"A small, recently opened antique shop run by Kristan Umina and her husband that wears its paranormal focus on its sleeve—its name was inspired by the owner’s repeated experiences with apparitions and spirit communication. The building is one of the few in town with surviving underground tunnels that once connected multiple sites around Eureka, and the shop has its own history of strange activity: small items moving, children’s blocks rearranging overnight to spell messages like “hello,” restroom doors randomly shutting, and intermittent sensations of being touched or energy flowing around the proprietor. The owner treats these occurrences matter-of-factly—greeting the unseen and continuing to operate the shop—making it a draw for visitors interested in oddities, local lore and the town’s subterranean remnants." - James Barrett

We had a wonderful time and tour. I highly recommend it as an essential stop when you go to Eurika. You get a run down on local history and get to see first hand how talented folks were 150+ years ago.

Awesome shop with a hidden tunnel system in the back. Ask the owner lady for a tour! It is built around 1870ish and quite an experience.

Very friendly owner offered to take me on a tour of the caverns below and what a cool experience! If you’re touring through eureka along highway 50, this is a must stop and see the cool little oddities they have here. Lots of fascinating historic relics from Nevada.

We planned our trip to Eureka just to go to this antique store and we’re so glad we made the trip! The owners were lovely, gave us a great deal on some beautiful glass bottles and gave us a tour of the tunnels. Really lovely little place!!

Great tour about Eureka's history of Opium dens and the trade of Marijuana! Underground mines and an old, terrifying way of getting to school! Ghost orbs and moving objects (stated) are a bonus! Great way to avoid the heat of summer!

My wife and I drove through Eureka several days ago and stopped here at Afterlife Antiquities and Oddities and it was amazing! The owners gave us a super interesting tour of the tunnels and told us about the ghost who dwells there. We also browsed the collection of antiques, which were very interesting too. We're so glad the owners are caring for and improving this place, along with teaching folks like us about its interesting history. We highly recommend a visit and hope to be back ourselves, someday.

Found so many awesome trinkets and the lady was nice. Absolutely wonderful time spent an hour looking through the collections and could easily have spent another hour or two. We also got to walk through the old Eureka tunnels. If i’m ever in the area again I will most certainly come back.

My husband and I visited Eureka in June, 2023. Not much was going on for us until we entered this store. Myles was so friendly and helpful. He gave us a tour of the tunnels behind the shop and shared so much history about them and the town of Eureka. The shop is full of interesting items and we purchased a few of them. This place is definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
What amazing history! Kristan is the most knowledgeable person to talk to about Eureka history! Plus, she has very cool taste. Definitely visit her shop to purchase items from the past.
