My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the beautiful Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. We hope to make this a family trip for years to come. The staff were all so friendly. We chose to upgrade our experience to Gold, which meant hot breakfast daily, delicious canapes in the evenings, unlimited drinks and snacks, premier service, efficient check in and check out on the private floor, and being on the highest floors. The greatest gift of staying at this hotel is the convenience of visiting Lake Louise whenever you want. You take away the stresses that come with parking, timing when you can get to the lake, waiting for hoards of crowds to thin out, unpredictable mountain weather, and so much more. By being right there, whenever the weather was great, we could roll out of bed and walk straight into the beauty. Waking up for the mornings and staying out late in the evenings, all when crowds thin out, were super easy to do being right there. My husband and I saw the endless droves of shuttle buses, tour buses, and cars that bottlenecked up the path to this lake, and we never had to experience any of that.
The hotel itself is on the older end. There's a certain charm and historic type of beauty to this, but don't expect the glitzy glamorous hotels of more modern big cities. The pool and gym are standard. Food is delicious. We enjoyed the fresh pastries offered with Gold. I can't count how many croissants I ate. Gold breakfasts were on point. Every day is different, but there were standard juices/smoothies, sausages, bacon, potatoes, and an omelet bar daily. My favorite breakfast included a Belgian waffle bar, complete with Canadian maple syrup. The evening canapes varied as well, but the chef was excited to present his share of imported French cheeses every night. My favorite was the triple creme brie from France. One night, there was an Indian themed canape night, with curry, pakoras, and samosas. We were so full from the breakfasts and canapes, we never even had to go out for a meal.
Since this was a relax-cation for us, we spent 4 days and 3 nights relaxing here. But I could see 2-3 days as sufficient enough to explore the surrounding area, with other days spent elsewhere if you're going on a road trip to say Jasper National Park. While the nightly rates are definitely on the higher end, you are paying also for the convenience and beauty of being at Lake Louise. You will really appreciate this fact when you witness the masses who come all the way here just to visit the lake and who will also have to leave moments later.
