"Afuri is a popular ramen chain with branches throughout the city in neighborhoods like Harajuku, Ebisu, Nakameguro, Roppongi, and Azabu-Juban. The signature bowl is chicken and dashi with yuzu shio , an aromatic citrus, and salt. Noodles are thin and straight, all the easier to slurp. After you’ve purchased your ticket from the vending machine, hand it over to the staff and they’ll ask if you want regular or extra fat. Afuri will also do limited-edition gentei (limited release) ramen, like a vegan or cold ramen in the summer."

This place usually has a very long queue, but we got lucky today—waited less than 10 minutes and managed to grab two counter seats. The restaurant has only counter seating, giving it that classic, traditional Japanese ramen shop vibe. Their Yuzu Ramen is super popular, and after trying it, I can totally see why—it’s absolutely fantastic! The original broth is flavorful but not overly salty, with a touch of sourness and a refreshing yuzu aroma that makes the ramen light, unique, and incredibly tasty. I went for the spicy broth, and I was initially worried the spiciness might overpower the yuzu flavor—but it didn’t at all. The spicy oil and yuzu blend beautifully, creating a sour-and-spicy combination that’s neither too oily nor too spicy, thanks to the refreshing citrus notes. The chashu and chicken breast were also delicious, well-cooked, and soaked up the broth perfectly. We also tried the yuzu highball and yuzu beer. The highball was just okay—the whisky overpowered the yuzu flavor a bit. But the yuzu beer was excellent—the blend of wheat and citrus aroma in one glass was superb. This is a well-deserved and must-visit ramen spot, with several outlets across Tokyo. Definitely one of the best yuzu ramen experiences I’ve had!

From the second you step in, the vibe hits just right—clean, modern, and full of that signature Tokyo energy. The music? On point. Chill but funky, the kind of playlist that makes you want to linger even after your bowl is empty. Now let’s talk food—wow. The yuzu shio ramen is next-level: light yet flavorful, citrusy in all the right ways, and perfectly balanced. Every bite is a little celebration of taste. Noodles are just the right chew, broth is soul-warming, and the toppings? Fresh, beautiful, and ridiculously tasty. You can feel the care they put into every bowl. Whether you’re deep into ramen culture or just ramen-curious, this place will blow your mind. The atmosphere, the beats, the food—everything flows together in a way that makes you want to come back immediately. Strong recommendation. This isn’t just a meal—it’s an experience.

Usually there is a queue but the line moves pretty quickly. We ordered at the ‘food ticket’ machine. Seating arrangements are counter / bar type surrounding an open kitchen where you can watch the food preparation process. Ordered yuzu broth ramen. Tasted good especially the chashu which was grilled to really enhance its flavour. One of the best ramen I have tried and would highly recommended it.

Unique & Refreshing Ramen at Afuri, Harajuku If you’re looking for a different kind of ramen in Tokyo, Afuri is a fantastic choice. I ordered the Yuzu Shio Ramen, and I loved its balanced flavors. The citrusy touch from the yuzu adds an amazing freshness, the noodles are thinner than usual, and the charred pork is perfectly seared, giving it incredible texture and taste. I paired it with a beer, which made for a perfect combo. The place has a modern and comfortable vibe, but I went during peak hours and had to wait about 20 minutes. Still, it was absolutely worth it. 📌 Tip: To avoid the wait, try coming during off-peak hours. Highly recommended!

You can order your food from the kiosk, so it's very convenient to see the pictures, check ingredients and compare prices. The staff is very courteous and welcoming. Your food is prepared fresh in front of your eyes in the open kitchen. I also loved their Yuzu beer. It can get crowded for dinner time. We arrived early and were lucky to get a seat immediately.

Google
We’ve been in Japan for two weeks now and have had way too much ramen to be deemed healthy. With every place we’ve tried, we still keep saying this was the best one so far. The broth was flavorful and I loved the ability to add chicken breast as a meat on top (pictured is the same one my husband got without the chicken - I ate mine too fast for a photo haha). The noodles were cooked to perfection and the experience was just overall enjoyable. When you walk in, you order at a kiosk which has English as an option for languages. After, you hand the printed tickets to a staff member and wait for a spot to open up. If you are with a group, it may be harder to get seats next to each other as it is bar style seating. But, even with us needing to wait, it moved fast and we were eating in no time. 10/10 spot.

Google
Yum yum yum! Beautiful ramen with yuzu flavour. Can opt for chicken broth and chicken pieces instead of pork. Long line around lunch time but we got there around 12pm and it loved quite quickly. The spicy ramen is delicious too and probably a 5 out of 10 in terms of spice. The staff are great and the place has a super cosy feel! Not a lot of seating so a large group may be hard to sit together.

Google
I love how you can order from a “vending machine” style ordering system. Options are in Japanese and English. The atmosphere was amazing and love watching the kitchen cook! You print your ticket! And then give it to the waiter! Amazing, we loved it! And there was a small wait outside but worth the wait!

Yelp
This is the location in Harajuku. They came to Los Angeles, which is how I first heard of yuzu ramen. I was excited to try this while in Tokyo! The line was out the door at the time of my visit. Since they don't have much room for a line, it cuts back n forth because of the door. The first line goes to the vending machine to pay. Then after you pay, you go to the other side of the room (where the umbrellas are). Then as you near the door, you can get closer to being seated. It's best if you come in with less than four people in your party. The seats are in a U shape around the kitchen. I loved the yuzu ramen broth. I loved the noodles. I loved everything about it - even though I was sweating bullets due to the summer heat. I will be back. A bowl of yuzu ramen was ¥1290, which is unheard of in Los Angeles. :O

Yelp
Another quaint restaurant with a long line outside. They only have bar seating. I ordered yuzu shio ramen with thin noodles, yuzu flavor was mild but I prefer it that way. The soft boiled egg was so delicious. For a small place the turnover's fast. I noticed customer service in all restaurants were very friendly but it's the opposite for retail.

Yelp
Afuri is now a global brand therefore they utilize many modern features in their business model. This translates to their ingredients as they do offer a Vegan Ramen which is very non-Japanese. They also are one of the few cashless establishments in Tokyo. They also have a very modern touch screen machine to order from which does resembles the button ticket vending machine at a typical hole-in-wall ramen shop. Pay with card, collect your vended tickets of selections, and hand to the hostess. This location in Harajuku is all bar seating. Although easy to order with some English selections available, the hostess spoke in pure Japanese to me. She sounded off many words, "matte" being the only word I understood, haha. The wait was short as diners hurriedly slurped away at their noodles. The crowd was a mix of foreigners and Japanese people. I had the Yuzu-Tsuyu Tsukemen for 1355 yen. While on the expensive side for ramen in Japan, the yuzu, soy sauce, mirin dipping sauce was quite unique. The noodles were aplenty and firm, but maybe a little bland. The egg was perfect and meat was tasty and succulent. It was a cold January evening and this tsukemen really hit the spot. Paired with a fine Japanese lager was icing on the cake. Somewhat Westernized, but oh-so delicious when in Japan on a chilly evening.

Yelp
Picked this place bc we were looking for a healthy ramen option. Lesson learned- ramen tastes better when it's a lil bit NOT healthy. ;-) Line out front moves fast and the staff is friendly. Once inside, place your order on the machine and by the time you are seated, they deliver your food nice and hot. The vegan ramen looked pretty with roasted tomatoes, cauliflower, spinach, and radishes. But tbh, the flavor was just ok. Bry's spicy yuzu broth was better. Glad we tried it, but would stick to the regular non-veg broth next time.

Yelp
Food was amazing. I. Dreaming of returning to Tokyo. The wait was a little long but it was absolutely worth it

Yelp
Ramen was top notch and full of flavor! You order via POS system where you choose what type of bowl you want as well as add ons. Once you order, you find a seat and give your ticket to the chef for them to prepare for you. Nice sized restaurant with good lightning compared to many others, but I can see that they could get pretty busy with limited seating. Along with the rest of the country, everyone is very welcoming and will cater to your needs. Would definitely come back if I am near by!

Yelp
I went because someone in the reviews said best ever ... it was good - but not best ever, in my opinion. Glad I went though so I saw for myself. Navigating is awkward - seating is super limited. So either your sitting, trying to finish fast to not be inconsiderate or your standing with your bowl waiting to sit. Or of course you can take out. Big if you're a tourist like me ... leaving with my bowl was option #5. We were lucky to get a seat right away but ordered drinks and felt there was no time to chitchat about our day or what we'd do next. Just head down slurping.

Yelp
This is one of the few places that serves a vegan ramen. My wife is vegan so this is normally a good choice. However the weather was extremely hot on our recent visit, and their a/c was either not working or non existent. Worse, they had a portable a/c which was set drawing air from the inside. They should know that this only serves to add heat to the interior (it needs to be drawing air from the outside). Another problem is their lightbulbs are old fashion incandescent, which generate a lot of heat. I know they look romantic but you can buy faux looking ones made from LED that are cool to touch now (not to mention they are much more energy efficient). All of the above made for a very unenjoyable experience. The Ramen was fine but expensive. Don't go there on a hot day unless they install or fix their a/c.

Yelp
Best ramen I had in Tokyo. Not a lot of seats so there's usually a line outside but worth it. On the left there's a machine to order (English option available) and when you're seated you hand your receipt to the staff. You sit at a bar around the kitchen and you get to watch them cook! I got the Yuzu Shio ramen and I highly recommend!

Yelp
Not your typical ramen, but I enjoyed this meal. If you're into yuzu and ramen you would love this combination. The service was fairly good and quick.

Yelp
The long wait was worth it. The service was quick and prompt. The food was awesome! I highly recommend!

Yelp
Vegan ramen honest review. Was it fresh, colorful, full of veggies and delicious? Absolutely yes! Was it the best vegan ramen I have ever had? Not really. The flavor was lacking a little bit of *umphhh* little spice, little tart, little flavor...something was missing. It reminded me more of a pho consistency. I added a bunch of red spice, black pepper and vinegar and slurped the bowl to the last drop. Noodles were probably one of the best i have had. Service, like everywhere in Japan is very respectful, friendly and inviting. Ambiance is very communal with low lights. Modern yet traditional. Worth checking it out specially because of its convenient location right next to harajuku Main Street. It was an amazing meal after a long day of shopping!

Yelp
Best ramen we've had so far in all my travels in Japan! It wasn't too heavy (we are usually vegetarian so pork ramen is very hard to digest) this was not too heavy at all and so tasty!! We both had the yuzu ramen, I had the chicken oil and my husband the pork. Both were so tasty. Their yuzu beer was also so delicious. You have to try this!
google avatar

Yelp
Vegan Ramen Staff is super nice too! It made it easy for me and husband who is not a vegan, so both of our tummys were happily full and satisfied!

Yelp
This is the second time I waited in line for this spot, but this time, was able to successfully make it in since I wasn't in a rush. This is a CASHLESS spot for those looking for a credit card friendly establishment. There are about 15-18 seats inside of this spot, so keep this in mind as you wait in line. Each ramen is made to order with different types of combinations from your noodles, your broth, and any extras you want to add to your bowl. The playlist here is fire. The broth, though, is a little more on the lighter/citrusy side, so if you're looking for a more savory broth, you may not find it here. I went with my family, both meat and veggie eaters, and we all had the same opinion on the broth: it's light and bright. Flavorful, yes. Great presentation, absolutely. And if you're vegan, yes, they have a rainbow vegan ramen (pictured here) that I finished to the very last drop.

Yelp
Five shooting stars for Afuri Ramen! This place was recommended to me by multiple people. Knowing that the place was small and that there would probably be a line, we decided to have an early dinner. Like many restaurants in Japan, you order at the machine to the left of the entrance. There was only one group ordering in front of us and then it was our turn. We ended up with the last available seats and the line started to get really long as we waited for our food. I ordered the ramen with the yuzu base and I loved it so much. The ramen is so savoury. The yuzu just adds something different to it. It tastes citrusy and warm, but it works well and I haven't had anything like it before. I was hesitant at first, thinking that it would be a weird combination. It was the perrrfect base for me. I crave it all the time now! It's a must try. They also make it in a small cup noodle size which you can order at the machine as well. Great for a souvenir (or just for yourself!)

Yelp
Just a short walk from the main streets of Harajuku is this fabulous hole-in-the-wall ramen joint. Loved by locals, you will usually find a line out the door waiting to come in as the area is quite small and fits maybe a dozen people at a time. We were super lucky and had beat the rush and were able to sit right away. When you enter, on the left side you'll see what looks something like a vending machine/jukebox where you click on corresponding buttons to order your food. Once your selections have been made, you will pay directly into the machine and it'll print out a ticket for you. They do not accept cards so be sure to bring cash! Once seated, hand your ticket to one of the chefs and they will ask you a few more selections questions (noodle type, broth, etc.) and because you're seated at a bar counter literally right up against the kitchen area -- they scoop you up your meal, then turn around and hand it to you. Super tasty and delicious! It was my first authentic ramen experience and it was so yummy!

Yelp
Come early or expect to wait about 45min to an hour to be seated. You wait in ain't too order on the machine initially and it is in English as well. It also only takes cash. Then after you order it takes about 10-20 minutes to be seated. Your food is served within 5 minutes of being seated as well. I had the yuzuratan ramen. Honestly I wasn't impressed. I'm from Portland and actually prefer the afuri in Portland. The ramen was too cirtusy, you could taste the fake citrus. It almost was too much to eat, except I had waited far too long to eat. The portion was a good size so that was a plus. I probably wouldn't recommend coming here. The wait was a bit ridiculous for how ok the ramen was.

Yelp
One of my favorite ramen spots in Tokyo! Different style of ramen, yuzu based with shio, shoyu or tonkatsu. Very flavorful and refreshing taste. My friends and I tried the spicy, the Shio and the Shoyu one and I've gotta say, the Spicy one was very flavorful and my favorite of the three. It came out super red and looks very spicy so I was intimidated, but it wasn't too bad! Long lines! Bar seating only and cash only. Line is to queue up for the machine where you place your order. Once a seat opens up, you'll be seated. They also make their own instant ramen but I was unable to find it in stores, so try to see if you can buy a few to take home while you're here. Must try! Deliciously refreshing and different style of ramen!

Yelp
There is a lot of amazing food in Japan and Afuri is no exception. The entire experience here, from ordering at the vending machine to sitting bar top and slurping noodles, is so great. I ordered the signature Yuzu Shio Ramen which comes with your standard assortment of ingredients including half a soft-boiled egg, bamboo shoots, green onion, seaweed and chicken (which I opted for instead of the standard chashu). Now the real superstar here is the broth. The broth is a warming chicken and dashi based broth with a hint of yuzu that makes it light and refreshing at the same time. It is much lighter than other pork-based ramen, but in my opinion, combined with all the other ingredients, this has been my ultimate ramen experience. I might need to fly to Oregon just to try Afuri again soon.
google avatar

Amy C.

Yelp
Been wanting to try Afuri for awhile. Everyone seems to be hype about this ramen joint so I finally got a chance to try it. Came to the one located in Harajuku and I had to wait for about 30 min in line. Ordered from the ticketing machines then waited abit longer to get seated. They're known for their yuzu shio (salt) ramen. I've only tried their instant noodle but it's the first time eating at their store. I ordered regular Yuzu shio(salt) ramen with an egg and I picked konnyaku men as my noodle which is basically a type of noodle made from this konnyaku potato that supposedly is healthier for you. Total of 3 different types of noodles, gokuboso men (wheat noodle -normal type), temomi men (wheat noodle -wavy type) and konnyaku men. Glad they have different option for their noodle for sure. The bowl came with menma (Japanese bambooshoots), nori (seasweed), mizuna (water green veg), a slice of chasu, and noodle of course. I'm a big fan of yuzu so I was pretty excited for the ramen. First had a sip of the soup, refreshing and you can def taste the yuzu and pepper. Noodle, maybe I should of ordered the standard type because it wasn't what I imagine it to be. It was on the harder chewier side and I didn't really like it very much. Chashu was alright and egg is your typical ramen egg. Afterall, I wasn't too impressed with their ramen. The soup was good but I didn't think it was worth the long wait. If I ever go back, maybe I'll give the noodle a try.

Yelp
Slowly working our way through the never ending list of ramen spots. Heard great things about Afuri through our Japanese local friend. They're known for their yuzu (citrus) broth. Incredibly popular with a dozen locations in Tokyo alone. Heck, they've even got a branch out in Portland. We dropped in on a Monday evening (around 6:45pm) and just beat the dinner rush. For once, we didn't have to wait! Although, don't fret, the line moves quickly. There's 16 seats at the U-shaped ramen bar. The staff speak excellent English (one waitress was singing along to an Ed Sheeran song). It's straightforward to order (with pictures and English labelling) but you can ask the staff for help if you need it. There's no menu. Just go straight to the vending machine to order. 12 ramen options; basically ramen (shio, shoyu, spicy), tsukemen and vegan. First place I've seen that had a pure vegetarian option. It's pricey (¥1,350) but it exists! When you sit down, they'll ask you how you want your noodles (firm, always), what meat you want (chashu, kakuni pork or sous vide chicken) and chi-yu you prefer (tanrei or maroaji). - Regular yuzu tsuyu tsukemen (¥1,060 for 150g) - chicken & dashi based sweet dipping tare, yuzu, half nitamago, sous vide chicken, mizuna, menma and nori. The regular was the smallest size of tsukemen we had all trip. Highly recommend to upgrade to the large for an extra ¥180 (¥1,240 for 300g). Broth was light and refreshing; I know, odd saying that for a tsukemen but that yuzu flavour really shines through. Noodles were thick, bouncy (we got them hard) and the sous vide chicken was excellent. - Yuzu shio ramen (¥980) - same broth and toppings except we went with their chashu cooked over charcoal. Nice smokey flavour but it could have been a bit more tender. The portion size was better and came in a thin noodle style. Broth was addictively good; we drank it all up. Definitely worth a try! I was ready for round 2 after devouring our bowls. 4.5 stars.

Yelp
So glad we found this spot. It is a little ways from the hustle and bustle. You order from the machine, then present your tickets to the chefs. I got the spicy yuzu ramen, my kid got the shoyu ramen and my husband ordered the yuzu shio ramen. We were all in love with our broths and the roasted pork. The spicy yuzu flavor is reminiscent of Thai Tom yum. The Noodles were cooked perfectly as well!

Yelp
My brother and I have heard from MULTIPLE people while traveling that this place was a must! So when we visited Tokyo, we decided to come here. I have to say it was one of the best experiences I have had with food. I even had to go twice because it was so good. Both times we waited about 20 minutes. When it's your turn in line, there's a machine where you essentially choose which type of ramen you'd like and what additions you would like. We got the first two selections (I forgot the name to be honest) and the food came out within 10 minutes of us giving them the ticket. One ramen will amount to roughly $10! The broth was amazing, the noodles were well cooked, and the chashu pork was tasty and well cooked. My brother and I both finished the broth and the noodles... both times we went! Definitely recommend this spot!

Yelp
Cool spot to stop by lunch after a stroll at the Meiji shrine. Luckily we didn't have to wait too long seeing that other reviews mentioned that a line normally forms outside during peak hours. Once you enter, you head to the vending machine and choose your food. I opted for the shio ramen. Normally i'm a tonkotsu ramen kinda girl and had only tonkotsu ramen so far in my trip to Japan so this was a nice change (still like tonkotsu more tho :P) My husband and brother in law really enjoyed their yuzu ramen as they both gravitate towards more sour soups. If shio ramen is your jam, I highly recommend!
google avatar

Siavash Z.

Yelp
We waited outside for this place to open at 10 am and I think it was worth it. Everyone was really nice to us and our food was made really quickly. The person behind the bar showed us how to use the vending machine, you pay at the vending machine and then just give the receipt to the person behind the bar by hand so im not sure how thats better then just telling the person what you want but whatever. I got the yuzu shoyu ramen which was great. The noodles were really fresh and and long and the flavors were really balanced. My girlfriend got the spicy yuzu ramen (it may have been miso based, I forget) but that basically tasted straight like yuzu which wasn't really our thing. Maybe it was just heavy on the yuzu and not normally like that, but either way great restaurant in general!

Yelp
The best TSUKEMEN "dipping" ramen I ever had. The noodles was prefect and sweet based dipping tare was amazing. It was delicious! Also had their most popular bowl, "Yuzu Shio" Ramen. Description said its a citrus flavor broth, I was a bit confused and curious on what this ramen would taste like. A light salt base with mild flavor of citrus. Prefect for breakfast or a light meal. Yuzu is a citrus fruit and plant originating in East Asia, it's a hybrid. This location is super close to the JR line in Harajuku and a couple of blocks from the subway station. I got there when they open at 1030am and there was no wait but once it was 1040am, there was long line outside.
google avatar

Christopher F.

Yelp
We came here because they have vegan ramen. Like many ramen joints, you walk in and order at a machine. Then you find a seat. The staff were great at this divey spot. There were some good tunes playing as customers enjoyed their ramen. We had the vegan ramen which had some good grilled vegetables. The noodles were nice, but the broth was exceptionally bland. I have had many vegan ramens and this one was lacking.

Yelp
During my 10 hour layover, I knew this had to be the place to go when I landed. After arriving in Narita airport, we made it out to the city and arrived to Harajuku. We were first in line and followed by 3 other parties waiting for AFURI to open! When they opened, I was the first one to make my purchase at the vending machine for my yuzu broth ramen and I sat down and chugged my cup of water. Handed the staff my ticket and she asked us for our choice of meat and I chose the seared pork belly. We were offered apron that my friend took one. They have baskets that you can use to store your bags on the floor behind you. I saw the chefs put together our both of ramen and I happily devoured my bowl, everything and broth. I can't wait to come back here during another Japan trip. This is my go-to place for ramen. My hubby had previously gotten the tsukemen ramen and that was pretty good too!

Yelp
Hands down by far one of my favorite ramen shops in the world. I couldn't help but compare all the ramen shops I've ate at since to this place and I've yet to find any that can match it. The shop is located right next to Meiji jingu so you can take a morning stroll there and then drop by Afuri for lunch. I arrived around 11:30 a.m. and there was already a short line of about 4 people in front of me. You order first via the vending machine and then you get into the queue seating. The wait time didn't take any more than 15 minutes but by the time I was seated there was already a longer line out the door. similar to many other shops and restaurants there's a basket where you can put your bags in under your seat. I ordered the Yuzu Ratanmen, which was the spicy ramen and the amount of spice was perfect. Unlike many of the other ramen shops I visited, this one was so unique because you can taste the sourness from the yuzu and it works really well with the ramen as w whole, because ramen is typically pretty heavy. In fact I felt like I could almost eat more. The chashu was melt-in-your-mouth and I basically drink all the broth. I also love mizuna in ramen and this is one of the few places (Hinodeya in SF also uses it) that have it! Planning another upcoming trip to Japan this is at the top of my list. I'd love to try the tsukemen, or dip ramen variation.
google avatar

Tammy H.

Yelp
Okay this is my top 3 favorite ramen. I'm talking about the Yuzu-tsuyu tsukemen (¥1060 for regular). The broth is nothing like I have tasted before. Refreshing citrus tang from yuzu, but still umami type flavor made it absolutely delicious. And the noodles. The noodles might be my favorite ever. They were perfectly chewy/al dente and on the thicker side which accompanied the dipping broth well. I also tried Yuzu Rantanmen (¥1230) from my bf but we both agreed that the tsukemen was better. Prices are higher than average for ramen but tsukemen is totally worth it. Highly recommend if you are not in the mood for traditional creamy, rich broth. There are a few other locations in Tokyo. Give the tsukemen a try because I still can't get over the taste! :)

Afuri is well-known for their yuzu-flavored broths and it makes my mouth water just thinking about it. I stopped in on a warm Sunday. There was an event going on in Harajuku so the line was super long and wrapped around the side of the building, but the 45 minute wait was worth it. Typical of most ramen shops in Japan, you order through the vending machine so make sure you have cash. Seating is limited to counter only. The staff were friendly and helpful to some people who weren't familiar with their menu choices and how to use the vending machines, so plus there. The ramen itself was very tasty. I only have 2 small complaints: I wish the ajitama (egg) had a softer yolk that wasn't fresh out of the refrigerator (it was cold) and I wish the bowls weren't so small. I probably had enough room for 1.5-2 bowls. Bonus: you can get beers or whiskey highballs there too!

Yelp
+ Vending machine with Japanese but don't worry the staff speaks English really well and are more than willing to help you. + Get your ticket from the vending machine and then take a seat at the counter, the staff will bring the food out to you. + Tsukemen dipping ramen: Had such an addictive citrusy flavor from the yuzu!! Personally I tend to go for ramen with a broth but the dipping ramen was a nice change and still fulfilling. However, I felt the portion size was too small and I was still hungry after. I would go for extra noodles when I go again. I really think they way they combined the flavors is one of a kind and worth a try. It may not be for everyone, but when I think back to this meal, I know that I would definitely eat there again because the flavor was really unique.

Yelp
People keep raving about this place on Youtube, Trip Advisor, etc,. so I was so hyped to try this ramen and believed that it would make me never want to eat cup noodles again. They're popular for their dipping ramen (which I wanted but I totally forgot about atm) because you order from a vending machine like thing and get a ticket in which you give to the staff after you sit. Yuzu Shio Ramen (¥980)- 3/5 This is AFURI's signature and one of the most popular dish there so I had to see what it was all about. I think I've come to a realization that I do not like yuzu, which is a citrus fruit, tastes like a lemon. I felt like the ramen would have been better without the yuzu. I gave my chashu to my brother and he said it was really good.

Yelp
FAVORITE TSURUMEN PLACE IN JAPAN. I got the large spicy yuzu tsurumen and it blew my mind away. Usually, I'm bad at handling overtly spicy foods, but the tsurumen in AFURI has the perfect kick to make it an absolutely amazing meal. The noodles are the perfect diameter and texture for tsurumen noodles and I could not help to scarf down my bowl after the first bite! Another awesome part of the meal was the sugar glazed pork! It perfectly balanced the kick of the spicy yuzu tsurumen and tasted incredible! Cash only place with a long line!

Yelp
*AFURI* served up excellent ramen, just as we expected. The ramen hit the spot after walking through the chilly streets of Japan. Ordering was done through a vending machine: 1) Select your ramen 2) Select your "chashu" style: whether it's roasted pork, kakuni pork or sous vide chicken 3) Select the "chi-yu" or chicken oil blended with dashi. There were 2 types: Tanrei, the thinner style dashi or Maroaji, the thicker of the two 4) Pay and give your ticket to the Server 5) Wait for open seat 6) Slurp and enjoy! I ordered the Yuzu Shoyu Ramen with Roasted Pork, Tanrei style. Simply maaahvelous!! The food in Japan is sooo amazing. The quality is hard to beat.

Yelp
This was one of the best meals I've had in Japan. I got the tsukemen and the dipping sauce was incredible. The taste was not overwhelming and the yuzu flavor really stood out. It was absolutely amazing and a must try when you're visiting Harajuku. The interior was really nice and modern with only seating around on the counter. The chefs cook right in front of you. You order and pay ahead of time using a ticket vending machine.

Yelp
Finally had a chance to try Afuri! THEIR YUZU RAMEN IS SO BOMB OMG!! The noodles were very fine yet chewy and the broth was super refreshing and aromatic! They also allow you to choose either pork (cha siu) or sous vide chicken - I chose chicken and it was very tender and juicy! We went before 11am and there was no line, but usually there is a line for this place! A must try if you're ever in Japan!

Yelp
This place is worth the hype around it. Get the Yuzu - tsuyu tsukemen! Unlike your traditional broth based noodles, Tsukemen is a broth-less noodle dish that comes with dipping sauce on the side. In this case, the dipping sauce combines the tangy sweetness of Yuzu with soy sauce & spices creating a flavorful profile to die for. At the end when you've finished eating all the hand-made noodles that come with this dish (you can get the noodles hot or cold), they will pour ramen broth into the remaining dipping sauce. This in itself will create a unique soup/broth that is pretty good as well. While they also serve traditional ramen, if you come here, definitely get a Tsukemen. Besides the food, service is quick and efficient. You order from a kiosk to save time as the line outside can get quite long. Overall, a really good experience.

Yelp
Best ramen Ive ever had. Just off the main drag in Harajuku. Worth the wait in line. Try the noodles in the dip sauce instead of traditional lighter broth ramen.

Yelp
We stopped by here on our way to the Harajuku shopping street and it was pouring rain that day so what better to eat on a rainy day than some hot ramen? The staff is nice and accommodating to English speakers! You order your meal through a machine near the entrance. You put in some money and pick and choose what you ramen want as well as extra meat, egg, beer, etc. Then you sit down, hand over the tickets and enjoy your meal. It's a small restaurant with a bar-like seating arrangement(no tables), so you might have to wait if it's packed. We had to wait outside for a few minutes in the rain, but they quickly gave us an umbrella! Yeah, these guys and gals are cool. Stop by and have a bowl.

Yelp
The taste of the ramen here was just not for me. The broth was too sour. Also their ramen had yuzu in it, which gave a very weird and confusing taste. The taste/style was just not for me. I prefer a more traditional ramen taste. Other than that, service was good.

Yelp
Very good ramen, my only complaint is no availability to order extra noodles. Great pork, broth, and noodles. I ended up ordering the rice and pork afterwards. Only 2 minute walk from JR Harajuku station.

Yelp
Came here during my trip to Japan to meet up with my friends on the first night. This is a cute little ramen place but expect a minimum wait time of about 15-20 minutes since the seatings are limited. Orders are taken from the ramen vending machine which is very quick and efficient and cost saving for the owner, this is very popular at ramen places across Tokyo (probably can't do that in America or else waiters will be out of jobs). Anyways, I ordered a Shoyu ramen and my taste buds came back to live from the broth (after a long 11 hours flight). The broth was well made and the heaviness was on point. The ramen itself was the thicker wavy type that adds to the flavor of the Shoyu broth. The Chasiu slices were grilled to a really good crunchiness with a bit of over-grill taste, the meat fatness was medium. I really enjoyed the ramen here. Definitely would come back here if I'm ever in Japan again!

Yelp
ウメ〜 (Umeeee) I wasn't expecting much of this ramen place even though it had very positive reviews. I ordered one of the signature hot ones. When it arrived, it was bright red. I was confused because I didn't order spicy. I took a sip and realized it wasn't spicy at all. OMG it had delicious yuzu flavor that invited you to try more. Sometimes yuzu flavored foods can be overpowered by it but in this case, it was refreshing. I couldn't stop. I didn't want to stop. If I didn't have to buy tickets from a vending machine, I probably would have ordered a second. This time I ordered extra bamboo but next time I will order extra mizuna for the crunch and freshness. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
This was my favorite ramen place while we were in japan. I tried two other places but I liked this place because of the broth. If u don't like Yuzu u won't like it but if you do you will loveeee. I like that they have the ticket/vending machine to order and service was good.

Yelp
Whoa! Super tasty Ramen and soba dishes. Great flavor! Yum. Get there early as the line can get long

Yelp
I wasn't a fan of the yuzu ramen. If you enjoy sour foods, you'll probably love it. I personally thought it was strange and overpowered the other flavors of the broth. Seems like a love-it-or-hate it kind of ramen! Ordering is simple and done through a ticket machine (there's are English translations). There's a bit of a wait, but it's not crazy. Prices range from ¥800-1000 -- cash only. Located close to Harajuku JR station.

Yelp
The Yuzu Tsukemen noodles at Afuri were the best noodles I've had in my life! They were super chewy and had an al-dente kind of texture which I enjoyed greatly. Most of the tsukemen that I've eaten up until now were focused on a rich, heavy type of broth; however, the Yuzu Tsukemen broth had a nice tangy flavor to it and tasted much lighter. This was a nice change of flavor for once. The noodles brought me back to this restaurant a second time only a couple of days later. They are truly incredible and I highly recommend stopping by Afuri if you get a chance! It is conveniently located near the Harajuku station which makes it super easy to access.
