Lovely Turkish restaurant at the heart of Dundee. Cosy and lovely, kind staff. Great food. Portion size is big, but staff happy to provide boxes to take away. Great experience. Cash only.

The Turkish Doner and Rice from Agacan blows most other takeaways out of the water in Dundee. Their browned onion fried rice is packed with flavour, and the doner meat itself is really tender, and tastes like a homemade mix blend of spices compared to what you’ll find anywhere else. Genuinely fantastic food spot, and would love to try more of their menu!

The Agacan has been open for so long for a reason, the food is wonderful and the atmosphere is great. Turkish food is my absolute favourite so i was very much looking forward to our meal, the waitress made us up a custom meal that id seen a picture of on the agacans instagram page - going above and beyond. Scoffed the lot, the only very minor complaints i had were that the lamb was very chewy and the table next to us was very very loud which isnt the restaurants fault at all but made it quite hard for us to hold a conversation, anyone whos been to the agacan knows its a very small restaurant anyway so we are all sitting very close. Other than that it was a fantastic meal, great price and we will definitely be back.

Visually stunning, busy, smoky and exciting. Oh and the food is to die for. We had a table for 2 at Agacan booked later in the evening as this spot is incredibly popular. It had been recommended to me and for good reason, this was perfect. The restaurant itself is very intimate and close with an open kitchen so you can see and smell absolutely everything. A light haze from the grill filled the place which was honestly not a bad thing whatsoever. The walls... Actually everything (tables, chairs and bathrooms included), was covered in amazing hand painted artwork. The service was excellent, being attentive but also not overbearing. They were very friendly and the perfect amount of chatty. The food was for lack of a better word, f*cking delicious. Everything was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The menu is small, but they have perfected it. The balance of savoury and salty, fresh and funky was perfect. I could honestly recommend anything from here. The price shocked me too. 3 courses for 2 was just under £60, including drinks. I was blown away by this place. I will be back many more times. Thank you Agacan!

Visited with two friends, on a busy Saturday night we booked for 8pm sitting. A Luvly welcome from staff. Ordered a bottle of white wine while looking at the menu. Starters to share of Humas, Cacik, and Feta Cheese Salad, with pitta bread, all the starters were delicious. Three mains ordered, 2 different kebabs, which came with rice and salad and a pilic special ? all our food was delicious (see photos). I got a doggy bag as I couldn't finish mine. Our visit was very njoyable, I saw the cooking area from our table and the staff work very hard. Also witnessed the end of service tidy up, the chef was very thorough in his cleaning. Highly Recommend a Visit. Hopefully, I can return very soon :) :)

It’s not often I give 5 stars, but this is easily a six. The restaurant itself is very small which gives it quite an intimate feel. The building inside and out is decorated with interesting art work. The menu is kept relatively small focused around kebabs which keeps the food quality really high. We were served very quickly by the friendly waitresses. I had the Karisik kebab which is made up of donner, pillic, pirzola and kofte. My girlfriend had the pillic. All of the meat was incredible. Very well seasoned and absolutely delicious. The rice is also outstanding, the best rice I’ve ever tasted. Portions are massive too which make it good value for money, neither of us could actually finish our meal. The waitress did say they would also accommodate smaller meals (e.g. 1 kebab rather than two). My only minor criticism, and it’s probably more of a preference thing, is that the chilli sauce seems to have some yoghurt running through it it. Given a yoghurt sauce is also served, I would have preferred to just have a pure chilli sauce.

Yelp
This is my first review so.......I live 2 minutes from The Agacan and since i usually visit Turkey at least once a year, i thought i would try this place. The Agacan is a well known restaurant having been established in Dundee for many years. Its a small restaurant with not many covers, however they do sell takeaways, quite a lot! This makes the entrance to the place very cramped and quite difficult at times and usually by 7pm or 8pm they will have sold out of doner kebab. My last order was the Adana Kebab £12ish, having loved this in Turkey i thought i would here. I ordered the takeaway and was told they dont usually do the specials as takeaway but will do this time because it was quiet. Always a friendly welcome, the kitchen is so small there is a hive of activity, smells were delicious, paid, got my food and away. When i opened the container, the Adana kebab was more like a thin version of a kofte, sliced down the middle, sitting on a bed of a squared pitta bread and chilli sauce, a portion of rice, portion of salad and another pitta. I felt the meat was overcooked, quite dry and for the price..........well overpriced. I couldnt fault the salad or rice, i dont think the pitta's were hand made and i was left with a disappointed taste in my mouth. I would recommend trying the place but not if your searching for that real turkish authenticity, the meats are ok, but bulked with pitta, rice and salad.

Yelp
Quite possibly the best Turkish food I have ever tasted. I always end up going for the Pilic kebab which consists of marinated chicken skewers on a massive bed of rice and salad, with pitta bread and chilli sauce. I would go for lamb, but dont really like it, however people in my group have had the doner, kofte and sis kebab meat and have raved about it. Portions are brilliant and its the only place I know where you can get a takeaway from and it will look exactly the same in your house as it would in the restuarant. Staff are friendly. Its a wee bit pricey but the quality of the food will soon help you forget! Its quite small but to be fair that adds to the experience and you kind of feel privilidged to get a seat in the place! You can also watch your food being made as everything is out in the open. We have walked in a few times but youre safer to book in advance, especially if you are taking more than 4 people. Menu can be found here for takeaway - http://www.dundee-takeaways.co.uk/agacan.php Cannot reccommend this place enough! Go!

Yelp
Legendary Art restaurant. The place is tiny and the walls lined with paintings by owner Zeki Agacan. Self taught but very talented, they are almost all of his native Turkey. Very popular and good, cheap food. If vegetarian ask for all the starters as a main.

Yelp
I have been visiting the Agacan for around 15 years, and believe this will continue for another 15.. Prices have risen, but so has my salary, its called inflation. My only niggle would be that lately the onions in the rice have turned a nice shade of black. a knew thing i believe? However, regardless of this small issue i am still greeted by friendly (not to mention, good looking) staff and thoroughly enjoy my meal each time. As they are an extremely busy establishment i may find myself waiting for my food, but also feel entertained by the unconscious performance i see before me. Has anyone noticed (regardless of the madness) from time to time you may catch a cheeky little dance between 2 members of staff? This is a great example of hard work becoming good fun.

Yelp
I love this place. The food is just so good! The restaurant is very small and you are surrounded by artwork all done by the owner, its great! You must book. Quite expensive for a student but worth it. Authentic wine so well with the food. For two meals and a bottle of wine and some hommus expect to pay about £50 but al worth it for a great meal in a fabulous atmosphere.

Yelp
I have been going to this place for years as it does some of the best kebabs around. Restaurant is small so often go for carry out which is just as good. Outside decor is unique and it closes early as they don't want to cater for the late night pub trade. Highly recommended

Yelp
Usually good food, dissapointed to find kebab meat in with my chicken (I don't eat red meat) and disappointed with Heather's attitude when I called to complain about it - oary Dundonian with bad attitude is not the best thing to hear when calling a nice restaurant and take away
