At long last Against the Grain has opened a bottle shop. Great beer plus house made sausages, bologna and hot dogs.

Yelp
They changed their menu within the past year or so and it continues to do great things. Drink selection continues to be stellar

Yelp
Food, atmosphere, and drink selections were all fine. 3 stars because of allergy awareness. Dairy allergy in our party. Asked for no cheese on the burger. Waitress wasn't sure if the bun had milk or not, so we asked to have it left off if it did. Burger came with a bun and the allergic person said, so the bun is dairy free? Oh I forgot to check was the response. So the waitress checked, then came back and told use there was fat free milk in the list of ingredients, but milk wasn't listed with the other allergens on the package, so it should be ok. Soft pretzel was good. Wings were good. The dairy free burger ended up being hardly any meat after removing the bun.

Yelp
Not really a fan. I used to go here all the time, when it was Cumberland Brews but now it has gone downhill. On so many levels. first of all, I always get grossed out when I see the front window where Cumberland Brews used to actually brew beer... Now it seems to be a storage area and it is disgusting and it always bothers me. I'm not even that germ aversive I've also experienced some bad customer service here, incorrect to-go orders mainly. If you order on the late side and there's a problem and you try to call back, they will not answer the phone. Even if they're still open The other problem is if you call like a half hour to 45 minutes before they close, they get irritated like it's a big problem and then basically complain..,but will sometimes do the order. It's fifty- fifty. More than once I have been spoken to like a child, reminding me repeatedly I "must come soon because they will be closing and hurry". It's kinda stressful. If you want to close a half hour or 45 minutes earlier, then just change your hours instead of acting like you're doing me a favor when I call in an order. To be honest, I really don't think their food is any better than any other bar in the area. There's other places that are cleaner, have nicer staff, and better food.

Yelp
the best thing about this place will forever be the music and the overall vibe - great quick stop before we continue our journey to Nashville :) order the pork belly on a stick and say hey to Enedina, one of the best servers and the one we saw hustling and mingling with all us lunch time warriors!

Alex M.

Yelp
Came here to have some drinks and food and really did like a couple of their beers but some of them were the greatest at least for me. Their food, however was really good and it really enjoyed it. It is certainly a place to come hang out since it's right next to the stadium.

Anmol R.

Yelp
Nice brewery with open seating and spacious ambiance. They have TVs if you want to catch any sports games. Food was decent, we ordered pork on a stick, fried okra and chicken wings. I wasn't blown away by the pork on the stick or fried okra. The former was a bit too chewy and the latter was a bit bland for my liking. But the chicken wings were excellent! Super moist and the seasoning was good. Try their house dry rub

Yelp
I came to this place both because I love a good brewery but also because I read this was a good place to sample Louisville's famous beer cheese. We had done a bunch of shit consecutively in the preceding hours that did not include eating so the moment we were finished with Evan Williams' Bourbon Experience (lmao because it seems like every other person came here after a bourbon tour) we b-lined for this place which was a reasonable walk from most things on that street. We were seated immediately, plenty of tables available at around 5pm on Halloween. Our server was awesome, he was so nice and did an excellent job taking care of us, always checking to see if we needed anything. We both chose something from the draught menu to wet the whistle. I already knew we were ordering the pretzel (for that beer cheese) but we were enticed by the fried pickle chips. Everything came out very quickly but regardless, they have tons of TVs viewable from every angle that allowed me to catch up on things like who was playing in the world series, for example. The pretzel itself was almost as good as the beer cheese. For starters, it was massive. The texture couldn't have been better. It was warm. The salt was very appropriately distributed. I don't have enough good things to say about this work of gluten art. The beer cheese was also phenomenal. They really don't provide enough given the size of the pretzel, even with the mustard. I was very tempted to ask for "ten more of these" when the server came over to ask if we needed anything but due to fear of rejection, I just said "no thanks!" Fried pickle chips were also very tasty. Paired well with whatever that dipping sauce was. Great time, great food.

Yelp
Heard great things about this spot and dropped by for dinner on our way into town. Unfortunately, it was a poor experience from start to finish. We ordered drinks and those took a bit to get. Also not a fan of places with no prices for beers on the menus. It was pretty loud because it was trivia night but our server tried to make the best of it. The citra ass down was excellent but the cold ass beer was just kind of meh. We ordered our food and didn't have to wait too long. However, two orders of fries and a side of chili came out cold with the rest of the food. The burgers were warm-ish but could have been hotter. Our server replaced the fries but that took some time. She checked the chili and said that it was cold back in the kitchen and offered a different side instead. We asked for a few things repeatedly and had to remind our server of it a few times before we would get it (salt, boxes, drinks, the check). I will say the chicken tenders and brussel sprouts were on point. The service went from bad to worse as we waited for boxes and the check for some time. Sounds like there was an issue with another table and our server was pretty distracted with it. We tried to be understanding that the food issues weren't with our server but then the service went downhill pretty fast too. Great potential - just needs to get some things together.

Yelp
This was a friendly little brewery we happened upon when walking around in downtown Louisville. They had a great variety of beers with some cool names. There was a great jimmy Buffet soundtrack playing because he had just passed away the night before. I am partial to wheat beer; so I tried the Sol Mate. It was served very cold and really good. My husband tried a few different beers and the one he liked best was the Cold Ass beer. We were there in the late afternoon and ordered the pretzel appetizer which came with beer cheese and a mustard dipping sauce. It looked great; but actually wasn't very good. It was a little hard and the cheese sauce wasn't creamy at all. Our bartender was extremely friendly and he even let me charge my phone behind the bar. It's in a good location downtown near the river and the Louisville Slugger museum. I would recommend ATG more for drinking rather than having a meal.

Yelp
Wow! Great deals on top shelf bourbon and an amazing Reuben burger that passed a picky 13-year old's taste test! Delish! Great service in a neighborhood bar atmosphere.

Andrew P.

Yelp
Attached restaurant to the Minor League Bats stadium. TVs are along the walls, and it's a lively atmosphere with people enjoying a bite before watching the pitch. Our crew of 6 had a long wait before the game: not surprised. But we got in and out before the Bats wiped the Saints for the evening. Wasn't feeling very hungry and just ordered the pretzel. It came hot with classic combo of mustard and beer cheese. It was soft and hit the spot.

Megan Z.

Yelp
Great food, prices and location! You can't ask for much more than this! $24 for food for delicious, high quality food for two and a great beer! The location is perfect - situation right between the Slugger Stadium and Angel's Envy Distillery. We visited on a Monday for lunch, so we were able to find free street parking nearby. I could see how this would be more challenging during the evening and weekends.I'd definitely recommend coming here if you're headed downtown!

Jon N.

Yelp
Fairly typical Brewery but a full bar and restaurant push it over the top. It's eclectic and irreverent in drcor and the names of the beers. Great artwork for labels, too! We were just in the area to look at the field and dropped in for a flight of 6 beers. We enjoyed them all to varying degrees and found them to range very good to excellent. $35K was stand out. Brown Note and the Citra Ass Down were really good. We didn't eat but food we saw looked good. Service was good and the place has great character.

Frederick K.

Yelp
Buffalo chicken wrap and pulled pork sandwich. Both very good. Service was excellent. Ambiance, what can I say, it's a bar with outdoor tables. Very nice.

Jason B.

Yelp
Nothing really special here. A good selection of craft beer but snobbily little to offer the low hops/non IPA drinker. Not a favorite.

Shelby S.

Yelp
Food was delicious. Our Server Christina(sp?) was very knowledgeable of the menu. She was attentive to our needs and was the true definition of "service with a smile". We will be back the next time we are in town.

Sean Matthew L.

Yelp
This is clearly the tourist money maker spot off the stadium for against the grain. I truly enjoyed the other location and this one fell short. Being the smokehouse it's primary focus they're serving is bar b que offerings. Coming from Texas I do have to temper my bbq expectations somewhat, but this didn't even meet those. We tried some bbq loaded fries with beer cheese. Sauced and fry rub wings and pulled chicken pan. Sandwich. The fries were already soggy from the beer cheese on delivery. The fries could have used an extra frying to get them extra crispy to withstand the sauces. The pulled chicken was dry and unseasoned and served with a vinegar bbq sauce that didn't help any. We wish the bbq sauce from the fries was on the chicken. The wings were solid but overall dry still in both formats. The ranch helps in this area but that just drowns whatever flavor was there. Grippo fries were fine, but could have been more seasoned. Drinks overall we're okay as well. The plum old fashioned was super super sweet. Ended up ordering a neat pour of rye to pour on top to help even it out some, but still didn't help. I'll definitely be back to the other location for some burgers, but this one is a miss for us.

Mike G.

Yelp
The food was not very good. I don't know what else to say. Everything we ordered was subpar and below, and it was really expensive.

Greg A.

Yelp
Cool brewery bar with a sports bar vibe. Outstanding beer and spirits selection and a good food menu.

Sharon M.

Yelp
Stopped before the baseball game, Katie was amazing, she made my visit welcoming. and kept me company while I waited for friends. She suggested the yummy A-Beer. Spot on light AND delicious ! The outside seating was spacious and comfortable. Nice breeze and fans on high. Great for large groups. Come early before the games!

Chris B.

Yelp
Good beers on the Louisville Slugger Ballpark. Try their 35K stout.....and if they have it definitely do their 70K. Yes they have food too

Tripp L.

Yelp
Great Vibe, really helpful staff, my beer and burger were excellent! I definitely recommend and we'll be back to try more of the menu.

Ashley M.

Yelp
Wings had a nice Smokey flavor and were good sized but missing most of the things it said it comes with. Plus the skin was a little undercooked. Please do yourself a favor and DON'T ORDER THE BRISKET!!!! There is the tiniest hint of a smoke line, but that's the least of it. You will pay for tons of fat and very little meat for what's even sent vs what the menu says. Just don't go here. 50% tasted good, but for the price and execution you could have such a better experience elsewhere. We were missing more than what the photos show.

Gerald B.

Yelp
Great food, prices and location! You can't ask for much more than this! They had a great variety of beers with some cool names.

Kelly S.

Yelp
I have mixed feelings about ATG. I have been here several times and it's hit or miss. Sometimes the service is on point, with friendly staff and delicious food and drinks. And then other times the service is slow, staff are kinda "meh", and the food and drinks were definitely not worth the wait. I sat outside once with some friends, just wanted to get a drink, and was told to go inside and order one. There was a group of us and the waitress could have cared less. She lost a few customers that night. And then a few weeks ago I had a great experience and a very yummy, and giant, pretzel. I guess it just kinda depends what your experience is going to be like each time you go...

Kalynne M.

Yelp
Let's start with the good: the atmosphere is great, service is very friendly. The pork belly is amazing! Both sides were also decent, not amazing but not bad. We shared the sprouts and potato salad. Unfortunately that's the only things that stand out about this experience. The drinks are average at best (we got a margarita and an old fashioned) instead so simple syrup or regular sugar in the old fashioned, (looked like) raw sugar which is too large so it doesn't dissolve in the drink, it sinks to the bottom. They advertise a "smoked" part of the menu and there is a smoker out front. I'm not sure anything is actually smoked. We were told the turkey was great but they were out (at noon), the waitress recommended the chicken- also on the smoke menu- it was terrible. Very dry, not smoked at all, tasted and looked like they over cooked it in a pressure cooker. We had to drown it in sauce to be able to swallow (3 ramekins worth)

Gary B.

Yelp
Great location, attached to the stadium and right off the end of the distillery trail. Large indoor room, and patio. Most of the staff were great, polite and friendly. The place looks cool, sort of industrial but clean. We only had the beers, and they were pretty good. They also have a drink special, the Handshake, which is a beer and a shot of a little better than well bourbon.

Robert K.

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches and a wonderful beer selection make this restaurant a winner. The waitstaff are friendly and service is usually quick. I like to bring out of town guests here to enjoy a little bit of the local beer scene.

Payal P.

Yelp
Probably the only good brewery in Louisville. It is worth trying out the Citra Ass Down...it is a very good citra heavy ipa. The brewery is located in the ball park and recently started selling burgers at this location. The waitress convinced me to get the Simkung Wrap. The wrap was seriously amazing. I loved how they added kimchi gochujang aioli to this recipe. The chicken was very crisp and mixed well with the crisp lettuce they put in there. Honestly, this is the best thing on the menu and worth getting!

Katie N.

Yelp
Great experience. All staff that I encountered were friendly (hostess, bartender, and food runner) I ordered the Citra ass down ipa. It was delicious. I also ordered the wings with the dry rub. Omg so flavorful! Very meaty and got a lot of wings with the order. I also ordered the side chopped salad. It was pretty big for just being a side. My only complaint would have been that it was drowning in dressing. Get the dressing on side would be my recommendation. They also sell lots of swag and canned beer. Definitely worth the stop!

Carlos R.

Yelp
Is Not a BBQ Restaurant No More! Just a Brewery Pub with Pub Food! They Did Not Update their Online Information!

Julie M.

Yelp
I had been here a few years ago and had a rather poor experience. So I wasn't thrilled about coming back but I felt I should at least give the place a second chance. Started out with: Don't forget the frickles - Crispy fried pickles served with your choice of ranch, house aioli, not so secret sauce, or superfly adobo aioli (there was no choice offered, we were only given ranch). These were a pretty standard fried pickle. My entree was the Simkung Wrap - Fried chicken chopped, BBQ sauce, lettuce, sesame kimchi slaw gochujang aioli with onion rings. Not as "flavor wild" as I had been hoping, but it still was a decent sandwich. Much better ambiance this time around, there was no mean mugging from the staff but I had messed up and got the week wrong, I had intended to go on a night where there was no game. But it worked out in the end because the people watching was just SO GOOD. Would I come back? IDK, maybe? The menu is just so basic and unexciting, and our server literally said to us after he had come to take our drink orders "hey, would you mind putting in your food order now, I have a large table that I have to focus on right now", like haha OK? I appreciate the heads up that we are now going to be ignored but could you not be so blunt about it? Anyway, ATG just gets an OK from me.

Jordan R.

Yelp
Took a little bit to be noticed originally, but once we were, we had a great time. Oh, and it's mid day Thunder over Louisville. Atmosphere is always great. Tiana, bartender was lovely, as was all the other bar staff. Mom got the Smokehouse OG and said it was the best sandwich she's had in her life I can't wait to come again to get my own

George R.

Yelp
Okay so if you're in town and headed to the Angel's Envy bourbon tour, you have to stop by this place either before or after. Located across the street from Angel's Envy. Being where it is located the price was very reasonable. They brew their own beer on site I recommend the Citra your ass down it was really good. Food was amazing semi deep fried pretzel with beer cheese, I must warn you it is really filling. I got the Brat on a pretzel bun with fries. One of the best Brats I have ever had. Fries were fresh and a great way to end the meal. I have been to many breweries that serve food, but none compared to this. Enjoy!

Andrew F.

Yelp
Shit hole Left phone in car so there was no way to get a beer list. Hipster bull shit. Waitress was one of the worst I have ever had . I guess you should know going in what you are getting.

Saphace A.

Yelp
It's been a while since I've been back here. Years, in fact. I came since I wanted to try the beer they were promoting for 12 Beers of Christmas, called Louisville Proper Pappy, since it was aged in a Pappy barrel. My friend and I both got a taste of it. Delightful! My friend stuck with that for a pint and I ordered one of their sours. Refreshing! We weren't staying long as we both had plans afterwards. We did share the pork nachos. It was really good! Only complaint is that using BBQ chips for nachos was a soggy choice... The BBQ here is decent. To be honest, Louisville isn't really the place to go if you're wanting stellar BBQ. You've got Memphis, Kansas, Texas, etc for that. Anyway, staff was great! Really nice and friendly. Everyone seemed to be in a good mood. We came right when it opened on a weekday night, so it wasn't all that busy. Tons of TVs showing different games and such. Love the vibe!

Jonathan V.

Yelp
This place has so much potential to have its food be so much more than what it was. I feel like the food was a level 4 out of 10. The best thing we had was the Grilled Romaine salad and the Brussels Sprouts. The nachos also weren't too bad. What really messed up the rating further was the poor service. I feel like the girl really just didn't wanna be there, like at all, or at least that's what it seemed like. Any question we asked was answered with the shortest possible amount of words. Give it a try and see if you have any better luck. Happy Eating!!

Mike G.

Yelp
Solid brewery at Louisville Slugger Field. My fiancé and I happened to find Against the Grain when exploring Louisville. The space is large and we had plenty of seats to choose from at the bar. Our bartender was very friendly and attentive. They have a good selection of beer. We had the Citrass down and A beer. Both were good and would order again. We decided to get a snack and ordered the pork nachos - which was delicious and very filling for an appetizer. This is worth a stop when you're in Louisville!

Jim R.

Yelp
First visit since Covid came on the scene. We had lunch in the shade on their patio, the weather was beautiful. General comment: Barely passable food for premium prices. They exist to capture the downtown tourist and people staying at downtown hotels/ballpark patrons. Pros: The beer (Kolsch) was great! Cons: My brisket sandwich, the meat was dry and had no discernible smoke flavor. The bun was fresh; LAST WEEK! Downright stale and hard with an old dry flavor. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich. The best she could say was the meat was decent. Once again, her bun was fresh, LAST WEEK! We both ordered a side of fries and asked that they be hot and crispy. The fries were neither. So this dining experience, two sandwiches with a side of fries, two beers, one tea....$56.92 including a 20% tip. Talk about buyers remorse!

Alexis T.

Yelp
Great beer and great smoked meats. Service is always good and good equally consistent. It's a place I enjoy going to every time I visit Louisville. Custom beer flights and beer go to go if you find one or more you want to take home.

Diane P.

Yelp
Down right awful. Let's start with the ground meat, 2 thin patties of fat ground beef, between a single bun of 99¢ bag of 12 count of buns. Right out of the bag store bought French fries. Nothing was served hot (including the fries) I stopped here based on the good reviews. I ignored the few bad reviews because (well why not). I'm not sure when all of the good reviews were written. But don't waste your dollars.

Lee G.

Yelp
Good food, beer, and service. Great location within the Sluggers stadium. Also at the top end of Whiskey Row.

Pey A.

Yelp
Solid place. Amazing outdoor patio. Great location. Super reasonable prices. Friendly staff. Good hot dog. I ordered 'The Sonoran Massacre' Dog, and for $9 I thought it was a solid dog. Obviously it's not a true sonoran hot dog -- hence the 'massacre' part -- but it was surprisingly good nonetheless. Also got a side of fries. They were regular degular fries. But overall, it gave me exactly what I needed in my life at the moment: a nice patio in the middle of downtown, good vibes, and a solid hot dog.

Kevin K.

Yelp
Excellent Maker's Mark Old Fashioned followed by an all appetizer meal of Smoked Wings, Mac And Beer Cheese topped with Smoked Brisket and that unique Kentucky dish, Burgoo. Ended with Derby Pie. Great food, great service

William M.

Yelp
Owner/Manager was so accommodating for our rush to eat, explore, and then get to the airport. Just pleasant people. Food was good (who doesn't like bacon on a stick!) Nice brewery, can see the inner workings while sitting inside with cool AC, or just sit outside and enjoy the sun.

Renae L.

Yelp
We stopped in for a drink and a snack while waiting for our angels envy tasting to begin. Much more inside than what it appears to be from the outside. We enjoyed a pretzel with double mustard and it hit the spot. The wait staff were friendly and fast. The restaurant is connected to the ball field and I'm sure gets very busy.

Amber K.

Yelp
Just walked in on a Monday at 2:30. Sat there for almost 20 minutes with no service. My husband walked to the bar and asked if someone could take our order. Waited another 10 minutes while we watched the waiter walk around aimlessly. Maybe 4 other tables present. Walked out because we couldn't get served.

Molly S.

Yelp
Fun brewery and bbq place with really high ceilings, varied options for sitting, and home brewed beer. We walked up on a Saturday afternoon and got seated at the high tops and ordered appetizers. Our waiter was friendly and service was fast. We loved the "citra ass down" beer. My favorite food the entire night was the giant Bavarian pretzel, if you order anything order this. If you order a full meal I'd recommend getting a table, which we did. The bbq was huge in quantity. The brisket was to die for but the ribs were a bit tough. The creamy coleslaw was a great pairing to everything, as was the potato salad. Definitely great for groups and for just drinks or food as well. It's not so packed on non game days it seems so maybe a good time to go!

P B.

Yelp
ATG beers are delicious and used to be paired perfectly with the BBQ that used to be served here! Its sad to see that they have moved on to a standard bar menu which leaves them as just another bar in downtown Louisville. On a Friday my group was amongst 8 other people in the business where the normal attendance would be in the 50+ I hope they can bring back the BBQ before they end up having to close their doors. Great location in the Downtown area with helpful servers and bartenders.

Ed S.

Yelp
I really can't rate ATG, because we came for a Burgoo Cookoff they hosted. Staff was friendly when we arrived and pointed us to the East Gate corridor of Louisville Slugger Stadium where the Cookoff was held. The bar was packed. Tables were full. It looks like Against the Grain is a popular spot. Probably a madhouse on game nights. Beer on tap. Daily specials. We'll come back when there isn't a Cookoff and get an early start and catch a "Bats" game.
