Just wonderful, beautifully equipped ruins of an ancient castle, safe for everyone, including children. This is must see item if you are somewhere nearby. You can enjoy unforgettable fabulous views of the Danube River, the mountains, and the nearby city. Entrance fee was 9.5€, August 2025. There are enough parking spaces nearby. Inside you can eat, relax

Just amazing! Great view and beautiful castle ruine. You can enter the castle just from parking place which is next to the castle on the hill or walk from down parking which takes 0,5-1 hour according to your abilities. Restaurant, coffee, toilets everything in the castle. Tickets 9,5€/adult

Beautiful, well kept castle, with amazing views of the valley and Dunaj. There is parking next to the castle with a lot of space. There is also a restaurant at the castle. We were there with a dog. It was not a problem to sightsee with her, however a few stairs may be a problem for the smaller dogs.

Fantastic castle with great views. Seems safe even for kids, and the landscape is just amazing. A must-see place when you are in the area. You can drive the car and park all the way up to the entrance, but you can also park down the hill and choose a challenging 2 kilometers walk up. Tickets are priced reasonably.

The best castle near Vienna. Stunning views of the Danube, well run and simply magical. The new Resturant inside the main courtyard is also good.

An amazing castle with a great view. We were lucky to visit it when there was a Christmas Market - which was quite cool and had many varieties of products being sold. Worth checking it out. We got the tickets online, parking was under the hill where the castle stands and for a small fee of 12 euros (which includes a bus taking you to the castle, Christmas market entrance and the castle visiting. To specific places - as far as I'm aware there are no tours as the castle is not big enough, but i can be wrong).

Amazing views from the castle. The drive to the castle is also quite scenic. The parking is free but there is a ticket 🎟 of 8 euro to enter. The castle is small and more like a ruined place. We also took an audio guide to know more about the place. There is a cafe and a soviner shop at the exit. It also has a free public washroom.

For a full experience go in November during the Christmas/ Medieval market. They organise shuttle busses, there is live music, food and interactive experiences. The entry with shuttle costed 21€ for two people. Would definitely recommend as a weekend getaway

Yelp
My friend and I spent a few days driving around Lower Austria and Burgenland at the beginning of this month. We stopped in Aggstein to see the ruins of Aggstein Castle, which was well worth our time! The castle was built in the 12th century but after years of neglect beginning in the 17th century, fell to ruins. The ruins sit atop a hill above the Danube River, and there are some incredible views. The castle has a small restaurant (they had inside seating, which wasn't open when we visited, but they had plenty of outdoor seating, which was lovely), where we enjoyed lunch when we arrived at the castle. We had some frankfurters with rolls, horseradish, and mustard - super simple and delicious. They also serve lemonade, beer, and other food. It was packed when we ate lunch, because a school group was visiting (lots of orders of French fries), but the food was fast, and it couldn't have been more convenient. But the reason to visit is definitely, easily the experience of walking through the structure of the ruins. It's really very cool to explore and take photographs of the structure - and the wonderful views you can see though the window and doorframes of the ruins. There wasn't much in the way of signage that I could see, but it's interesting to walk around and you can Google the castle before you walk around to get some context for your visit. A great stop in Lower Austria (we visited between stops at Melk and wineries in the Wachua Valley)!

Yelp
Must-see medieval castle ruins! Great for kids and adults alike. The audioguide tour brings the castle to life with stories, fun facts, sound effects, and minstrel and church music. Don't miss the diorama exhibit depicting an old legend full of your usual suspects - love, betrayal, revenge, and bloodshed. Although we came on a very foggy fall day, and didn't see any of the view, it was still worth the walk through history.

Yelp
This is a ruined castle, not a preserved one, as per its name. Nonetheless it is quite fun to go through with some reconstructed areas and a lovely view of the Wachau section of the Danube. This would be a great place for kids as there are lots of things to climb up to. Very picturesque and good for photographers.

Yelp
One of the best castles we have seen. It is a ruined castle but designed to be seen at all levels. They have ramps and walks built so you can see most of the ruin. Go for lunch or early dinner. Food is very good and very reasonable. Beer is served also. A gem on the Danube. Great for photos.
