Aghadoe Heights Hotel & Spa (Killarney, County Kerry) 2 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"The typical Irish country escape involves rolling green hills, perhaps a bit of golf, and usually a castle of some vintage or another. But a look at the Aghadoe Heights Hotel and Spa should convince you that the part about the castle should be entirely optional. This 73-room resort overlooking the Lakes of Killarney is a Sixties-era modernist building, and it’s got interiors to match; here antique leather club chairs are replaced with pieces by the 20th century’s top designers." - Tablet Hotels

A stunning hotel with an unparalleled view in a great location. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and our 10 year old son loved the swimming pool. The breakfast in the morning was superb.|The only area for improvement in our opinion was the bar food. The soup we ordered was cold and the service not great at times. The bar staff seemed under pressure and I am sure we’re doing their best. However for a 5 star hotel it does need attention. Otherwise a really enjoyable, relaxing stay.

Gorgeous rooms, stunning views but lacks certain class for a luxury 5-star hotel We stayed for 2 nights in a lake-view room, which was the most comfortable and extraordinary room during our Ireland trip. We thoroughly enjoyed the view of the lake and the beautiful nature from our room, the restaurant, as well as from the breakfast room. The welcome from the Front Desk was not the usual warm and hospital Irish interaction but rather a cool, distanced and strictly business approach; a rather unusual greeting for a luxury 5-star hotel! The staff at The Heights Lounge and at breakfast was very friendly and professional. However, I did not feel that my food allergies were handled well during my dining experience at the Lounge, especially since I had already shared them while reserving a table and reminded the staff again verbally when we were seated. After ordering, the waiter brought the wrong dish telling me that my finger had pointed to that item on the menu instead of listening to what I verbally ordered! Then the waiter came back claiming the chef was unable to do a smoked salmon plate without gluten, garlic or onions - I have never had to work this hard to get a meal at a luxury 5-star hotel! It was an unnecessary frustrating experience which could have been avoided if the chef had come to my table to communicate directly with me! I did not appreciate how this was handled! Breakfast is partly a buffet and partly warm dishes like Eggs Benedict/Eggs Royal to order with a certain wait time. This might take a while when large tours are residing at the hotel. We did not have time to enjoy the spa or pool amenities the hotel has to offer as we were focusing on exploring Ireland’s west coast with Dingle peninsula and the Ring of Kerry! We enjoyed staying at the hotel simply for the nature views and peacefulness but we should have skipped having meals at the hotel other than breakfast. We were surprised how many guests with small children were staying at the hotel and dining at The Lounge which took away some of the tranquility we were enjoying….

Was good few times for lunch. Food lovely. Best coffee. Service was good. But when came in last time it was breakfast time and we wanted only coffee. So we were directed by the member of staff to sit down in a different area and one of them will sort us out. We sat there for half hour nobody came up at all and we had to leave because we were in the rush. That was a bit unprofessional especially when we were directed by the staff. Not sure will I go there again

The Highlight of our trip to Ireland. The staff were amazing. Bubbles and treats on arrival, and the best meal we had in Ireland. Waking up to that view would never ever get boring.|Complimentary access to their Thermic spa in the Morning really kick start the day in the best way. |You'll have a good night's sleep for sure. ||Pure bliss

It’s 6 out of 5, if that was even an option! ||Myself, my husband and our 9 month son stayed here for one night. I write this as we are still here sitting out on the balcony enjoying the views. ||It was a big birthday for my husband and I wanted to treat him. Having stayed here many years ago, I was delighted to be able to come back.||Having checked online during the week, the only room available was one without a balcony which didn’t suit us. It was also booked 3-4 days before we arrived, which is my own fault for not being on time.||I rang the Hotel and spoke to a lovely lady who took my details and promised someone would be back to me, and a lovely lady called Patricia came back to me very quickly. She was incredibly kind and advised they had a cancellation and could offer us a lake view room B&B. ||I explained it was my husbands birthday, the first time in years we had managed to get away together on his birthday, and a first night away for us with our 9 month old son. ||We were used to the comforts of home and were understandably nervous leaving our safe space, as first time parents. ||The staff could not have been more helpful. I emailed enquiring about some balloons, and rapidly heard back, and ordered balloons, a fruit bowl and chocolate covered strawberries.||When we arrived the gentleman on reception was clued in and didn’t give a thing away and I really appreciated that, so good he was that he didn’t even say happy birthday which some people might not have liked but I was delighted as it kept the surprise for my husband. ||When we got to our room, the surprise was there, along with a beautiful cot for our son. Our room was right beside the bar, which was smart because worst case scenario it would drown out our sons crying should we have had a rough night, but he slept sound, and we could hear nothing from the bar, and there was a crowd having their dinner, and a lovely pianist. ||The room was cool when we got there, which was perfect, but the best part was the temperature was not automatically controlled throughout the hotel like many hotels, it was a single system per room, so we could heat the room or turn it off, and it was very quick to heat up. || We had breakfast delivered to our room this morning for our own convenience with our son which made everything easier for us, and the man that delivered it was so kind, and chatted away to our little boy as he was bringing the food he. He was very nice.||We had the option of using the hotel services, but we didn’t. This was to no fault of the hotel, our stay was short and we spent a lot of time in our room or travelling around Killarney. ||I cannot stress how lovely all the staff were, everyone had a smile for our son, and were so lovely to us. ||I know it is a 5 star hotel and this level of service and kindness is expected; but a lot of the times you don’t get the kindness from staff.||I cannot fault any part of our stay here at Aghadoe. The hotel is spotless, and the staff are kind and helpful. It is no wonder they have many awards won for their exemplary service.||I would highly recommend this hotel for couples and especially for families. ||Even though we might not have booked the penthouse suite, we were treated as if we did and that level of service is what brings people back.||We are disappointed to be checking out, but we will most certainly be back, and thank you so much to everyone at Aghadoe who make our stay amazing for my husbands birthday and our first night away with our son.||We will certainly be back!

Staff lovely, but very understaffed/poor organization of staff. In the Heights lounge (dinner) we were waiting quite some time to be seated even though we had made a booking. There was no dedicated bartender, the same waiters/waitresses that were taking orders and delivering food would go behind the bar and make cocktails (the cocktails were top quality) and drinks which caused delays with food and general service. As well as huge delays ordering courses and drinks, we had to ask 3 times for my husbands chips and also no butter came with the bread for the chowder. Again, the staff were so lovely and kind and hardworking, it was poor management of resources. The bed was turned down in the evening, but there wad a dead fly on the covers. After completing the post-stay survey, a manager rung and apolagised which we appreciate but then offered a "preferential rate and free upgrade". We initially paid €299 for the room, the preferential rate offered was €369 so we would be paying the hotel more than we initially paid after a poor stay. The same room costs €359 on the website so it would also be cheaper for us to book via the website. When we flagged this, the manager offered €319, however this is still more than we initially paid for what turned out to be a disheartening experience.

This may be my favorite hotel in the world. My wife and I spent our 25th anniversary here and it was magical. This is a wonderful hotel with views that will actually take your breath away. Our balcony overlooked the Killarney lakes and mountains we were able to watch clouds and fogs come through the mountains for spectacular views and sunsets. Honestly, my photos do not do it justice. The staff members were friendly and helpful tasty, authentic flavors. Brenden, the head concierge, went above and beyond to make sure that our stay was perfect. I communicated with several hotels on this visit and he was the best at communicating and facilitating solutions. Then he over performed when in action. My only regret is that is that we had too many activities outside of the hotel. This is the type of place you just want to spend the day at the spa staring out to some of the finest scenery in Ireland.

Really enjoyed our short stay here, nice welcome, excellent spacious room with balcony and view, relaxing pool, jacuzzi and thermal area and decent dinner. Breakfast offering was excellent and all staff interactions were very pleasant.

Yelp
A great location in Killarney. Close to everything and spectacular views from our Lakeview Room. Friendly and helpful staff. Had a couple of meals in their Lake-room Restaurant ... the Manager looked after us the first time and was amazing as was the food! The second time the Manager was off that evening and the service was not nearly as good. Proof positive the service business is all about the people. Nonetheless it was wonderful stay ... we would return.

Yelp
We stayed here for a night when visiting this summer and thought the location, view, and hotel accommodations were all excellent. Since we were just here for a night while passing through, we unfortunately didn't get a chance to check out most of the great amenities. We can comment on an easy check-in and check out. Friendly service at breakfast, which was included with our room rate. They also have a spa and gym, which I saw from the outside but didn't have time to utilize. The room was spacious and very comfortable. Our room had a gorgeous view and balcony. I imagine this would have been a really nice place to stay for a few days and enjoy the many things to do in the surrounding area.

Yelp
A very nice place. We liked the hotel's physical layout. The rooms were spacious and many amenities were easily accessible. The bathrooms were well stocked and roomy. The views are spectacular and grounds are great. There is a fine restaurant just down the road called Razzers where we ate dinner one night. Dinner service and food at the hotel were not so good. On the other hand the breakfast service was outstanding and the breakfast dish offerings were very good. We were on the third floor and there is a bar and cocktail lounge on our floor. We were here for two nights on a two week tour of Ireland. The place is in the middle of beautiful surroundings in the middle of Killarney. We would stay here again when in the area. Nancy & Mark.

Yelp
Gorgeous views of the Lakes of Killarney, mountains, castles & much more! I highly recommend going for that! Upon arrival to the hotel, it's unattractive & not a well-planned hotel. I found myself lost & having to get back on the elevator to reroute. Also, it's not too user friendly when it comes to the small pool. It's pretty & looks out towards the mountains, but has a rather awkward spiral staircase to get to. Other than that, I never tried the food or spa treatments. If you want to just sleep, the accommodations will work & surrounding area to travel, hike & tour. George, our server for coffee was very friendly & an another lady described the mountains & lakes to us. The staff was very friendly & helpful.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed here two nights as part of a Tauck bus tour. The hotel is on a hill overlooking a lake and parts of the Killarney National Forest. The view is great. Our room was quite comfortable, with two big upholstered easy chairs. We had a nice view over a green lawn with a lake in the distance. There were some historic ruins and a small cemetery within view. Our room had a small porch with two chairs. The view was very relaxing. The lobby has two modern stained glass window hangings that are very attractive. The service at this hotel was exceptionally good. Our first morning kitchen electrical problems resulted in a few of our co-travelers getting a cold breakfast and not enough fresh coffee. I had tea and a good breakfast, so I was not affected. The hotel staff apologized profusely and at dinner provided free Prosecco and free bottles of wine to all the members of our tour group. The daytime manager was very service oriented and friendly. He was my favorite hotel employee during our 2 week bus tour. This hotel is conveniently located near Killarney National Park and the Ring of Kerry. I recommend taking a narrated horse drawn carriage tour through part of Killarney National Park; the carriage departs from the town center.

Yelp
This is such a great hotel. As soon as you walk into the lobby you feel relaxed. It's very modern, and the rooms are very comfortable. The size of the rooms are average, but they are equipped with nice coffee machines, and the bathroom is well stocked with high quality toiletries. The best part of the hotel was the restaurant, which overlooks the lakes of Killarney. We had dinner there at night at the lounge bar restaurant, and there was a live piano player who also sang. She was excellent and took requests too. Food was a simple menu but tasted amazing. The breakfast is in a different restaurant, and equally impressive food and views. The pool also overlooks the lakes, as does the spa. The spa area is so nice and relaxing. The heated loungers were my favorite part. Didn't get any treatments though as they were booked out. Loved this place and want to go back.

Yelp
Outstanding views, great food, service, spa, and pool. Close to many sites including the Ring of Kerry. Recommend by Trip Advisor. This place is located Clio to good shopping with very reasonable prices. People are very friendly and willing to help, in the city of Killarney. A true 5 star resort, we were there this past June. Yelp
Aghadoe Heights is truly a 5 star hotel. It is perfect. Everything is beautiful, from the entrance, to the hallways, to your room, to the pool, and the restaurant. It is magic. The rooms are wonderful. They are spacious, well decorated, spotless and so well maintained you would think it was a brand new hotel. There is a TV, if you want. The beds are so comfortable and the views from your room are stunning. The hotel has the most beautiful indoor pool. There is a spa right there so whatever you want, they have. If I were you I would buy a package that includes some meals because the food is the best. It is the best of Ireland, from breakfast to dinner and desert. It is just unbelievable, it is so good. It is hard to describe the perfection of this hotel. It is everything you could ever want. It is a dream come true. It is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at in my entire life. We have been 3 times and each time for several days. It is always wonderful. The staff is so kind and friendly, you know you are in Ireland. They embrace all the best that is the most beautiful Island in the world. The hotel is a bit of a drive into town, so you will need a car (you need a car in Killarney any way you look at it). If you can manage to leave the hotel, do, because the town is wonderful. There are great pubs, shopping and a few really good restaurants. Take a walk outside your hotel, there is an old cemetery nearby, miles of green acres and wonderful birds to see. The lake is within walking distance and it is beautiful. The only problem with the hotel is that it is so perfect, they make you feel so welcome, they take such good care of you, that you may forget to leave. Pull it together and do leave and go into town at least once. Have the best time.

Yelp
Great hotel in a gem of a location. As soon as I arrived I was warmly greeted. The Aghadoe Heights is a special hotel in a special place. I knew I was in for a treat. The views from the property of the lakes, and mountains, were world class. Simply breathtaking. The customer service and hospitality was excellent The location was ideal; a few minutes drive from Killarney where there is a great selection of pubs and restaurants. With the assistance of hotel staff, I received tips from guest services about the best routes to take when hiking, where to stop for a coffee. The general manager, Ewan, was especially courteous and generous. I enjoyed a lovely afternoon at the spa where I had a terrific massage and enjoyed time in the hot sauna. It was a life-changing, memorable trip.I had the great time at Aghadoe Heights and i felt I got value for my Aussie dollar to thank for a wonderful stay!

Yelp
Hands-down one of the best hotel experiences of my life. The staff, accommodations, food....everything....just amazing. Came here for 2 nights with business colleagues, and was taken care of as if we were family. The grounds and views were amazing. The staff was phenomenal, the manager was simply the best. I cannot say enough great things about this property. I will be back, undoubtedly.

Yelp
I defy anyone to stay at Aghadoe and not have the most amazing time. The staff are hands down what make this place as fantastic as it is. They are welcoming, friendly, and attentive without being overbearing. The rooms are fabulous, but then we did stay in the Penthouse! Saw a few other rooms and they were all huge, even the standard ones. Food is excellent and well priced. We had the high tea one afternoon which was amazing! Absolutely recommended for a special occasion. The spa is also wonderful and free for guests to use every morning, very relaxing.

Yelp
We stayed here on Saturday nite- we were not a hen party, but we felt like we were treated like one. They shouldn't encourage group bookings if they are not willing to treat them the same as other guests. Parts of the hotel deserve a 5 star review, so i feel like i should highlight the positives. - The spa is magnificent - The front of house service is excellent- efficient and friendly - The rooms are large, and the view is unparalleled. - The atmosphere in the restaurant is lovely. Food is very good- although not amazing. - The shuttle bus service is a great addition (although you'd expect this with a 5 star hotel a few miles out anyway) That said, we felt like we were treated like 2nd class citizens in the restaurant. We were NOT loud, we were 10 girls excited to get away for the nite but we were not like a hen party. We went into the bar for a drink before dinner and the bar manager came straight over to us and said 'Girls it would be better if you went straight to your table, you'd be more comfortable'. Which we thought was strange. He even said ''I'll leave you there for the nite and wont budge you again!''.. to which he meant ''please dont come back to the bar.''.. After all of that, at 11.30 someone else came back over to us in the restaurant and said ''The staff need to set up this table for breakfast now, i'm going to have to move you into the bar''...which we did, but there was nobody behind the bar nor and we couldnt attract anyone's attention to get served. This went on for 45 mins and eventually we left. i would like to go back as a couple and try it out under different circumstances- that said, i dont know would i give them a 2nd chance either, not when there are so many fantastic hotels in Killarney or elsewhere in Kerry. I suppose it was just a bad choice for a girls night away in hindsight.

Yelp
Amazing hotel. Staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough to help make our stay more enjoyable. We stayed here on a very wet and windy day so outdoor activities were out of the question. But, the bar area was more than inviting, with very comfy couches and board games we felt like we were in and very luxurious sitting room. The bar food was amazing. We stayed there on a week day and we were told at check in that we could be upgraded to a suite if we preferred at no extra cost. The room was fantastic! The spa area was equally as fantastic. This hotel is the nicest hotel I've stayed in in Ireland by far. Can't wait to stay here again.

Yelp
We had lunch here recently and we were all underwhelmed by the experience. To start with the wait for our food to be served was too long. When our food did arrive it was nothing special, definitely not up to five star level. We did however have a window table and enjoyed the spectacular view.

Yelp
We spent the first part of our honeymoon here in June of 2013. For our stay, the service was outstanding, and so was the food, the spa, the quiet atmosphere, the particular view we had toward the mountains on Ireland's Atlantic coast, and the access to Killarney. The Aghadoe was an unforgettable part of our honeymoon.
