I stayed at Aghadoe Heights Hotel & Spa from the 4th to the 7th of November 2025. while my visit was generally pleasant, the experience did not fully meet the expectations of a five-star property.
Upon arrival, the atmosphere did not immediately convey a sense of luxury, and the welcome at reception felt somewhat understated. The room I was shown to was clean and comfortable, and although I tend to be very detailed when inspecting accommodation, I noticed a few minor dents and faint brown marks on the wall. These were small issues, but worth mentioning for a hotel of this calibre.
My experience at the spa was the most disappointing element. The facilities felt limited, I made use of the steam room and the heated loungers, but that was the extent of my spa experience. The spa’s location toward the back of the hotel meant the view did little to elevate the atmosphere, which contributed to the overall sense that the experience was not as serene or luxurious as expected. No massages or mini-facials available during my stay, and the pool did not appear to be well maintained, with visible limescale beneath the water. While I still enjoyed the time spent there, the quality did not reflect a luxury spa standard.
There was also a moment of confusion at reception regarding my bill, as I was initially told I still owed payment for my room, despite having paid in full online. Once they checked their system, the error was corrected, but such misunderstandings can easily be avoided with more attentive service.
On a positive note, the food at the hotel was enjoyable, although the breakfast selection did not impress me as much as the other meals.
Overall, I had a pleasant stay, but I feel the hotel aligns more closely with a three-to-four-star standard rather than five stars. It offers a lovely setting, but there is room for improvement to meet the luxury experience it aims to deliver.
They also had I nice few of Killarney lake :)
