On the Grid : Agharta Records

"Located right on University Avenue, one of the best parts of Agharta Records is their incredibly up-to-date Facebook page that announces the "fresh arrivals" as records become available (both new and used). The shop is expertly organized and it's nearly impossible to not get sucked into the Dig Room to scour the $1 section. Tees, books, and other music related goods can be found amongst all the vinyl." - Studio On Fire

Google
One of the best record stores in the area. It's one of my regular stops. Dylan and John are fantastic, they will help you find whatever you may need. I've discovered new bands a few times by asking what was currently playing in the store while I was browsing. The used new arrivals section is awesome, especially if you visit often. Thank you Agharta !!

Google
Wonderful group of people who can manage the hell out of their store. I spent the morning of Record Store Day here (you know, when all the hardasses are out and about) and I would not have wanted to spend it anywhere else. The line was quick and the picks were plentiful (I personally got all of mine). I also think that it’s important to mention these guys’ pricing. Sure, I’ve found stuff at other stores that was the same price at Agharta - plenty, in fact - but I’ve never found anything that was cheapER. In a business with such cut throat pricing, that difference of one or a few bucks really goes long a way. I feel pretty safe in knowing that I’m getting the best deal I can at Agharta, and that matters

Google
Very nice store! If you’re looking for something I would definitely suggest stopping by here! The staff are nice and as a record shop it has a huge variety of just that!! For the accuracy and huge stock the price is quite nice! They have plenty of $1 options too which is always appreciated!! Inside was fun to look at and be in!!!

The owner is the face and customer service of this treasure. This is a space to love music, explore the art of the vinyl and speak to a wise person about bands and artists. Plz keep this business alive and flourishing.

Google
This place is so good. It looks very good inside and has very nice workers. The selection is super good. They have super rare albums for very cheap. The prices are amazing compared to other places. They also have colored records and they are very cool. Overall my favorite record store.

Google
Great selection. The stacks in back are definitely worth going through, as you are guaranteed to find something you want, or didn’t know you needed. Very friendly staff.

Google
Great selection. I popped in on a whim while visiting St. Paul thinking I'd pick up a record to support a local shop, but to my wallets dismay I ended up buying 6 all of which I'd had a hard time find in stock at other stores. Cool vibes. Would not hesitate to recommend.

Google
Insanely diverse record shop. Anyone who loves music and vinyl will flourish in the amount of variety and price points from collectible to $1. Despite being packed to the brim with merchandise, the store failed to be overwhelming due to its impeccable organization. Very kind employee spoke with us, solidifying my opinion of this place and plans to return!

Yelp
i had never been to Agharta Record until last Sunday. Wow! What a great store! They seem to cater to my tastes in particular (Frank Zappa, Prince, horror movie soundtracks, odd bits of retro records with suggestive covers...), and their prices are good. It's organized very well; even their one-buck LPs have been alphabetized. It's a pleasure to go in and browse and hang out there. It would be nice if they had a seating area for us folks getting up there in years, so we could take a breather now and then, but that would take up space for more vinyl wonderment. I can't wait to visit again...and I WILL visit again.

Yelp
Must stop in a city with many great record stores. This shop just feels the best to be in. Love shopping here. Great selection and friendly owners and employees!!

Yelp
Maybe this will be an unpopular opinion, but I honestly thought this place blew Electric Fetus out of the water. It's has ~everything~ I love in a record store. Y'know, like, records. They have a large selection of newer records which is fantastic, especially for appealing to a larger age demographic, but there are also SO many vintage, collectible, off-beat, etc. options as well. Such a cool place too - the walls are completely covered with posters and there isn't an inch of square footage that isn't jam-packed with records. The owner seems like a really friendly guy, and he was complimenting everyone's music choices as they checked out. Overall, VERY worth the visit. One of the coolest spots in the area in my opinion :)

Yelp
If you swung by years ago and thought this was too small to matter, then try again because this shop expanded! Very well organized with a current and solid back catalog of many enjoyable genres (indie, local, jazz, psyche, local), this shop Is all about vinyl. With a great selection of new releases, alphabetized pre-80s classics, culled-out collectables, and friendly staff, you should have no trouble finding something worth the while.

Yelp
Agharta Records is a really fun stop! They are ever so slightly pricier than other shops I visited in the area, but they had some rare finds. The shining star of my visit had to be the ~Dig Room~. At first, I was pretty overwhelmed and felt defeated before I even began, but then I realized the walls were actually organized alphabetically (for the most part). I am SO glad I took the time to look through the whole collection, because I found some seriously awesome records, all for under $4.

Yelp
Tons of records just crammed in here. If you are looking for something chances are they have it or know about how to obtain it. The staff was very friendly and helped answer questions and to locate a few artist we have been searching for. They would have gotten five stars but I really was distracted by the musical choice playing the day I was there....Just a little too harsh and angry sounding for my liking but I can appreciate that others like it and hey if I could play what I wanted while working I am not sure everyone would love my choices either....so you do you boo boo!

Yelp
My girlfriend introduced me to this place because I needed to sell a bunch of records and she said they were fair. Not only did the person working give me a fair amount for the two boxes of records I brought in, but the whole process was fast and painless. No leaving records overnight, no waiting hours and hours, no hassle over payment. I just turned over the records, shopped around, and after a few minutes, got paid. Literally the best experience selling records in my life. To make it even better, the shop is packed full of records in all genres. There's a great selection of punk and metal, with lots of obscure and rare stuff. Lots of horror movie soundtracks. And it's so well organized! I was digging through the discount stuff and I almost passed out when I realized it was alphabetized. And there's a whole room of discount stuff. I ended up being surprised by a record that I didn't even know existed by a legendary local band I love, so I had to buy that, as well as a new record by a Sub Pop band I've been meaning to listen to. I was just so impressed by the whole situation, and the person working was so kind and cool to my girlfriend and I. I'm excited to buy more records here.

Yelp
BEWARE: the employees at this store appear to hold infinite knowledge in the realm of music. i have witnessed them using dark magic to summon the album of one's deepest lust.

Yelp
Simply the best. They always have a great and vast selection of vinyl, and a large new arrivals section. Dylan and the rest of the crew are so kind and helpful. Do try this place!

Yelp
I've lived a few blocks from this for 2 years and just stopped in to check it out. I promptly returned the following day when I had more time to look around. Prices on newer releases are a few bucks higher (if at all) than other sources online, but its EASILY made up for by the bargain section. I found a few $1 gems that sound like they have never been played. The staff (owners?) are polite and helpful, and there is a tremendous variety. Can't recommend this place enough. I'll be back!

Yelp
Overpriced IMO. They have a whole room of discount stuff but it's just crates and crates with no organization. If you have a solid day to sit and go through the bins you may find a gem. Smaller store. Friendly staff.

Yelp
This place is awesome. One of the best record stores in the cities, and the service is second to none. Highly recommend.

Yelp
This might just be my favorite record shop in Minnesota! Very friendly and helpful staff who love to chat with you about all types of music; great record selection (and they can order product in for you); and very reasonable prices.

Yelp
I have not yet been to all of the Twin Cities vinyl record stores, but this is about as good as it gets in St. Paul. It is even worth a trip from Minneapolis and parts west. I like this place because of the attitude of the staff and the good selection of vinyl. Pricing was good for the quality. I especially liked the back room, where there are hundred of albums priced at $1.00 ea. I was excited to find four 1970's albums I was looking to buy for a long time, and I got them all for $1 ea. Agharta also sells a selection of new repressings. Staff is willing to help you if you need it, or you can just come in and look with no hassle. Paul was very helpful the day of my visit. He knows a lot about music and worked at KQRS at one time. I also liked the layout of the store, and that Agharta's sells vinyl, not a bunch of other junk. Sometimes parking is hard to find on University Ave., but I usually park on the street just behind the building or along the west side of the building.

Yelp
Best record store in Saint Paul, if not all of MSP. Huge, well-graded used inventory, plenty of new releases, excellent prices, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great place to hang out and find some affordable treasures, no matter your taste.

Yelp
You can walk in, buy a turntable , reciever/amp,speakers and a fistfull of lps from the past and present, go home and write a yelp review in one long run-on sentance, and wish you could give Dylan, the owner, an 11 out of 5 stars. A+++++
