It is a historical place from which the name of the city “Tezpur” derived. It is said that this is place where the daughter of King Banasura was kept isolated. Later the war between Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva took place, which led the name of the place. Anirudha, the grandson of Lord Krishna was being attracted by the Prince Usha, got married later. King Banasura (who was the devotee of Lord Shiva) arrested him on hearing this news. It led the war between Banasura and Krishna. However being the devotee of Shiva, Lord Shiva came to rescue and it was place of blood when the war had started between Lord Shiva and Lord Krishna. Lord Vishnu came to end this war later.
The entry fee is Rs 30 for adults and Rs 10 for minors. However, there is no maintenance, no proper description neither clean properly. The authority should take action to keep the sentiments and mythological beliefs intact.
It has a watch tower from where the city and the surroundings, including majestic view of River Bramhaputra can be seen. But still need proper maintenance!
