After a bustling stay in lively Carlarforte we were inspired by the many great reviews praising the tranquility of Is Conchisceddas. And we were blown-away by the natural beauty of its location, wonderful swimming pool and comfortable bedrooms. However, for us sadly tranquil and restful for an overnight stay it was not.
Firstly we had a problem with the noisy toilet cistern running non stop, Which we advised Tomasso of before we went to dinner - After which he kindly visited our room and assured us it was fixed. Unfortunately, at about 12 midnight the problem started up again and continued for the whole night.
Secondly the air conditioning was not working, Which we hadn't realised when we first retired to bed as we didn't turn it on. But when we were awoken at midnight by the noise the room had heated up to around 30 degrees C, (86F) and the AC wouldn't work. (the following morning at breakfast we discovered that it was the same for all the guests, No AC.)
We opened all the windows fully - but the 12 bright lights around the swimming pool remained on till dawn illuminating our room like daylight making sleep even more impossible. The window in the toilet may have provided some cross ventilation but we had to close the toilet door due to the incessant noise.
Then at 4 am a Cockerel began crowing - Which sounded so loud you'd have thought it outside our window - which it continued to do intermittently till 6.30am. As a result of these combined factors we had no sleep at all.
I understand this is a farm stay - and the Cockerel, had the windows been closed and AC on would not have been a problem - It just came at the end of an already terrible sleepless night.
We ran through all these facts with Tomasso the following morning, and honestly, whilst I understand this is a farm-stay it is still a hospitality business and procedures should be in place to ensure the guests comfort. For instance an emergency number to call if there is a problem as the property does not have 24 hour management.
The swimming pool lights should be on a timer, The marketing for this property is all about having an experience immersed in nature - not having the night sky obscured by light pollution - Think of the environment - and savings on your energy bills.
We'd all had an excellent dinner on site the night before - Perhaps offering to cover the cost of our meal would have been a way to compensate us for a sleepless night - Or even just the 5 euro cost of the wine. It just seemed that whilst Tomasso is a diligent young man - and was apologetic, faced with all his guests complaining about the lack of AC and sleepless nights he simply didn't have the experience or authority to be able to respond in any meaningful way -
A simple act of kindness in the face of our obvious distress would have probably meant this review would never have been written. I respect all the wonderful reviews this property has earned in the past and I know how hard they must have worked to achieve them, but I can't accept having to endure a horrible night without sleep.
I'm confident my comments will be acted upon - and have still given the property a high score as I still believe this is an excellent place that deserves a visit - They just need to think a little more about the care of their guests and what it means to be in the hospitality business, especially as a stay here is not cheap.
