Aguamel, Sintra, near Lisbon, Portugal - Explore & Book

"Perched on forested slopes, Sintra’s fairy-tale chimneys, turreted palaces and folly-filled gardens have a magical feel. Perhaps it’s the town’s origins as a Celtic centre of worship, or its cool hilltop air, which often wraps the trees in mist and which has long attracted writers, artists and aristocrats in search of a summer retreat; it might even be the ley lines on which it’s said to sit. Whatever the reason, it’s a fascinating place to explore - particularly once the day-trippers have departed. This lovely little B&B is ideal for visitors who want to stay overnight and experience the town at its best. Hidden off a cobbled square in the historical centre, it occupies a 19th-century house that was rescued from abandon and transformed into a sanctuary as soothing and sweet as the Portuguese honey-water after which it’s named. Within its high white walls are 5 light-filled rooms dressed in softly shimmering wallpapers. There’s also a breakfast room-cum-lounge with cushioned nooks, plus a geranium-scented patio where you can linger over the homemade cake laid on every afternoon. All in all, it’s stylish, homely and, like Sintra itself, brimming with historic charm. Highs Sintra is one of Portugal’s gems - a beguiling little place that Byron once compared to paradise. It’s within easy reach of some glorious beaches, tooA beautiful renovation of a graceful old house, which shows in every detailWe loved the 2 Superior Rooms, which open onto a shared balcony gazing out over the plains far below. You might even spot the sea sparkling on the horizonDelicious breakfasts are included in the very affordable ratesSpoiling touches: free tea, coffee and cake, an honesty fridge with soft drinks (you can store your own tipples, too), and a bottle of red wine if you book through i-escape Lows The B&B has changed hands and we have yet to meet the new owners, but we're told little has changedNot so great for light sleepers; the bar across the square can be noisy and the bedroom walls aren't completely soundproofNo on-site parking, and finding a space nearby can be tricky. Consider arranging a transfer or arriving by trainThis is an old building so expect things like creaky floorboards and steep staircases (no lifts)Bathrooms are open-plan, so you’ll need to be on good terms with your travelling companion" - Abi Dare

We had a great stay here! It is a very small hotel, giving the place more charm. The breakfast spread was good with croissants, bread, cheeses, and meats with yogurt, fruit, and a different pastry each morning. Just keep in mind breakfast starts late (9-11am). The staff was very kind and let us store our luggage when we arrived and after we checked out. The location is central, but quiet at night. The room was clean and comfortable. Definitely recommend staying here!

My wife and I stayed here for the last two nights of our 14 day stay in Portugal and it was our favorite accommodation. Not only is it in a great location on the edge of Sintra’s historic district, but the rooms are cleverly designed to make excellent use of limited space, and are charming, tastefully decorated, and comfortable.||Communication with the hosts was easy and helpful - we took them up on an available transfer by private car to/from Lisbon for a reasonable price and are glad we did. Our driver (Fernando) is delightful and full of useful recommendations on what restaurants to visit and what food to eat. Ask for him!||Lastly, the included breakfast far exceeded our expectations, with various fresh-cut fruit, hot croissants, honey and jams, pancakes, eggs, coffee and tea. Be aware, however, that if you start your day early, you may miss it, since it is only served from 9-11 AM.

I booked last week a double room at this Hotel. It was a joke. I traveled a lot in my life but I had never a room like this. Reception was not at the house. I received a mail at my arrival day, that I can’t park there over day. They don’t have parking spaces and the city ist overcrowded. The Room was not like the pictures, to small, not a bath room. Toilet only Glas around, shower too, nothing more. Breakfast starts at 9 am to late for me…non of this important facts were not at the website. Door was broken too, so no safety for my stuff. The person from the hotel I called was not helpful. I left…I know is unpossible to find hotels there. I recommend to take a hotel at Lisbon and travel by train, much better as staying at this more than expensive small cabin at this hotel

We loved the charm and centric location of this place once we were inside the actual place and/or room. To get here isn't a simple task. We had a very decent breakfast, and the employees were very courteous, respectful, and friendly. The small hostel looks clean and smells good. The rooms were beautiful and nicely decorated. Hopefully, I can return in the future.

We spent 3 nights here. It was just right for a relaxing stay to see a lot without stress. The small guesthouse has the perfect location for all the sights. We explored everything on foot from here on beautiful paths without any problems. The large room with balcony was wonderfully furnished (orange blossom). Clean, with a large comfortable bed for 2. The breakfast selection was varied and very tasty. In addition, there was always tea and cake in the afternoon. The staff was always friendly. We enjoyed this quiet stay very much as we were mostly the only guests. A visit in low season is highly recommended. It is generally much quieter and all the sights can be visited spontaneously without queues. We would love to come back and stay here again.

The location is near the free parking lot if you are lucky to find one at right time. We arrived just a few minuses after the check in time. The door was locked. No one there. I have to use my cell phone to make International call on the numbers on the door. No one answer the call until I called 2nd phone number on the door. She gave me the code to go in. This supposed to be a guest house but the hostess do not want to be bother to shows up to let guests in. It does not feel that guests are welcomed. The breakfast was good. They have the best egg tartar.
