21 Best Bars in Tokyo, from Hotel Lounges to a Tequila Speakeasy | Condé Nast Traveler

"Situated on a leafy corner 10 minutes away from Shibuya station, Ahiru Store is a mecca of hard-to-find natural wines (mostly from France). The rustic décor reflects the bar’s priorities. Empty bottles and the autographs of cult producers like Pacalet and Domaine de L’Aglore adorn the walls and windows, and daily offerings are listed on a heavy black chalkboard. Lines of fervent (and frequently bearded) natural wine fanatics begin forming in the late afternoon, before Ahiru Store opens at 6 p.m." - Melinda Joe

Like any small bar in Tokyo, a punish to get into. Showed up at 18:05 and still had to wait in line for 45 mins. Grab a drink from the 7-11 next door and enjoy the wait because it’s worth it. Top dishes are the pate, octopus and avocado and hummus and radish, the pork, actually you pretty much can’t go wrong with anything.

Ahiru is my ideal neighborhood wine bar and I would have visited a few times if it wasn’t so hard to get into—the space is tiny and the bar is super popular. It was absolutely worth waiting outside in the cold for nearly an hour and a half for a tight seat at the bar. The wine list is amazing and the onion flatbread was delicious and I have dreamed about both twice since getting back to Rome.

Great wine and food. It's a small place so you might feel cramped. We went there around 17:00 but had to wait for about an hour. Staff are very nice and friendly. Food was pricy despite the small portion size. Overall, I think this place is a little overrated.

Love this place and a part of me wants to keep this location secret (bit too late anyways). We came at 4.30 pm and were lucky to get the last available table right away. We ordered few dishes (thanks Google translate) and all was excellent. Not to mention the succulent natural wines too.

Intimate and cosy atmosphere with friendly staff, good wine and delicious food. We asked the waitor to pair any red wines with 2 items on the food menu and we were so, so impressed. We were served a spicy green curry pork sausage. It was the best thing we've eaten in tokyo.

We were in the line at 7:20. The owner told us they can handle us. We ended up waiting until near closing time and we were only able to order appetizers. The owner did not even interact with us nor offer any apology. Do NOT go here at least 2 hours within closing time. The owner should’ve known better how his store works.

Google
Highly rated on one of the top gourmet review sites in japan so I had high hopes up for this restaurant. Visited around 5pm and they were a couple lining up. The store only holds up around 10 people and mostly standing. You may be given a seat if you are lucky. Good wine selection and food was absolutely good. Loved the ambience and staffs were very friendly. Understood why this place was rated very high. Very casual and not overly priced. Expect to wait for a while but this place is definitely worth the wait.

Ahiru Store is a small wine bar near Yoyogi Park. It’s been there for a while now and had been on my bucket list for a long time, but it took me a few years to finally make it here because they don’t take reservations and it’s always packed even on weekdays. The place specializes in natural wines and you can order by the glass or bottle. All of the wines by the glass seemed to be priced the same. There is only one choice for a glass of sparkling wine, but for both reds and whites they give you a choice of three daily selections. The service is great and their delicious food goes well with the wines. We highly recommend ordering the egg with mayo, hummus, and the octopus with avocado. They also have a large selection of bread that you can order by the slice. We recommend getting several types of bread, especially the focaccia. Ahiru Store opens at 3pm (as of March 2022, they are closed on Wednesdays and Sundays), but there is always a line even before they open. Since we went on a Monday we thought that we might be able to get a table even if we got there a little past 3pm, but we ended up waiting for over a hour for a table to open up. This place is worth waiting for even if you have to wait for a while, but make sure you come here only when you have a lot of time and aren’t in a rush to get anywhere afterwards.

Natural wine with a long wait. Cute, cozy and good for small groups of 3 people or fewer. We were able to order in English. The space is on the small side. Expect to stand for long periods of time. But wine selection and food was great! FYI, there is no tasting before you buy, but the server will ask if you like red, white or something in the middle 😁

Google
Great vibe, friendly service from the brother-sister owner duo, and tasty small plates. Simple, constrained flavors and totally unpretentious! This is what I love about Tokyo’s food scene. A full meal of small plates and a few servings of (natural) wine will set you back 5-8K¥, which is reasonable for a decent spot in this neighborhood.

Yelp
The Ahiru Store is a small wine bar and restaurant in Shibuya that was recommended to us byt the friendly guy working at Fuglen. Their focus is on natural wines, a trend that has not really caught on as much here as in some other places. To be honest wines are not as popular in Japan as in Europe but still one of the best places in Asia to enjoy good wine. There is a good selection of 10 or so wines by the glass and numerous more by the bottle and all at pretty decent prices (ranging from 400 to a bit over 1000 yen per glass). The staff are happy to discuss what you are looking for and let you taste before making a choice. In general staff are very friendly and service-minded and they really try to make everyone fit into the small space and if you do not fit in they try to set people at the door and just outside. Reservations are possible if you are also eating so would recommend that. I never got around to taste any of the food but it did look delicious so will return for that some other time.

Yelp
Cozy and quirky wine bar - visually stuning, but extremely expensive... we we're charged over 100$ for 4 glasses of wine and 2 tapas. We left feeling little taken advantage of.

Yelp
The Ahiru Store is a bar in Shibuya specializing in natural wines. They have a selection of around seven to ten wines by the glass as well as a larger list by bottle. Prices vary from around 400 to 1200 yen (5 to 10 EUR). The shop is very small, so it is not so easy to fit in. But the staff tries their best to arrange seating. For us they brought out a table and placed it just outside of the door (the weather was good, so no problem). You can also reserve a table, so perhaps that is a wise thing to do. We came ten minutes before opening and we were the last party to fit "in". The Ahiru Store also serves small plates of food: bread, charcuterie and such. We were on our way for dinner, otherwise we would have tried out some of the food as well. The bread looked amazing! The only downside, which you will easily run into in Japan, is that the staff do not speak good enough English to really discuss the wines. So we chose our glasses by gut feeling.
