This museum is located on the left side of the entrance to Gülhane park - former imperial garden of Topkapı palace, very close to main historical sight-seeings, such as Topkapı Palace, St. Sophia Cathedral, Sultan Ahmed Mosque (Blue Mosque), Yerebatan Cistern and other. This museum can be a dream for book lovers in the heart of old Istanbul. It is set in a restored historical building, this museum-library. You can explore the rooms dedicated to famous writers, see handwritten manuscripts, and sit down with a book and tea in the beautiful garden. Quiet, charming, and full of soul just like Tanpınar’s novels. A hidden oasis for anyone who loves books and timeless places.

A free to enter museum dedicated to Ahmet Hamdi Tanpinar, a Turkish writer; poet and scholar. The museum is on a very steep hill so be careful. On arrival you have to enter your name in a book and place your belongings into a locker. Probably for security purposes, you cannot take any pictures inside of the museum which is a shame as the place looks beautiful with many rooms containing books. You can look at the books or just sit and absorb the surroundings. Worth a visit.

Nice place to wander around in before going on to do other stuff. It was free when I went. Not sure if I would have enjoyed it as much if it were paid.

A Hidden Gem for Literature Lovers Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar Literature Museum is in a great location with stunning architecture. Inside, you’ll find fascinating items from Turkish authors and poets, along with an excellent collection of books, mostly from the last 100 years after the language shift from Ottoman to Turkish. There are also books exploring Istanbul’s transformation from Constantinople to modern-day Istanbul. A must-visit for anyone interested in Turkish literature and history!

For a non-Turkish visitor, I don't recommend going there First of all the staff which was just an elder gentleman, could not speak a single word of English, and then he asked us to put our bags in a locked box and sign somewhere which took a long time due to language barrier And then when we entered the musem, there was zero English signs, everything was in Turkish, the signs the books etc! We didn't learn anything when entered and left there very soon after.

This is a literatur museum and library, opened in 2011, and named after the Turkish writer and poet Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar. The building, dating from 1811, was originally for the Sultan to salute his military parade brigade. Entrance is free, plan a 30mn visit.

This used to be a location on the cottage wall where the sultan used to watch military parades. It's not a Turkish literary museum
