8 Incredible Trips Across Canada Run by Indigenous Tour Operators

"Departing from Tofino, British Columbia, I joined Ahous Adventures for newly launched whale-watching and bear-spotting boat trips along the Ahousaht First Nation’s coast, and learned that, through collaboration with BC Parks, guests can also book exclusive morning and evening access to Hot Springs Cove for a soak in its seaside pools." - Diane Selkirk

I did the Hot Springs tour with Ahous Adventures and it was absolutely incredible! The journey itself was beautiful, and along the way we were lucky enough to see grey whales and sea otters, which made the experience even more magical. The guides were knowledgeable, welcoming, and clearly passionate about sharing the beauty of the area. Visiting the hot springs was such a special experience – relaxing, peaceful, and surrounded by stunning scenery. Everything about this tour exceeded my expectations. I can’t recommend Ahous Adventures enough – an unforgettable experience!

Don’t let cloudy skies put you off from visiting the hot springs - the boat trip was even more atmospheric than if we had wall-to-wall sunshine. Captain Richard’s singing evidently attracted all the whales nearby, and we saw sea otters and sea lions aplenty. The hot springs surpassed expectations and we marvelled at the beautifully constructed boardwalk there and back. Thank you Ahous Adventures for an unforgettable experience.

We had an amazing time on the bear watching tour! It was easily the highlight of our trip. We saw multiple bears and bear cubs in their natural habitat. We also got to see sea otters and harbour seals. The guide was friendly and the tour was well organized - departing and arriving on time.

Wow, what an amazing experience! We saw sea otters, harbour seals and grey whales. Our tour guide told us about the Ahousaht’s indigenous culture and even sang a beautiful song. Felt like a different world. And the ride with the zodiac was an adventurous experience itself 😎 Highly recommend!

We had an absolutely unforgettable experience with Ahous Adventures. Captain David led our whale watching expedition, and we were blown away by the incredible wildlife encounters - we spotted humpback whales, orcas, and grey whales throughout the day. Captain David's knowledge of marine life and the local waters was exceptional, and his storytelling about his cultural background and upbringing added such depth to the entire experience. Our bear tour with Captain Chris was equally amazing. We witnessed bears in their natural habitat, playful otters, massive sunfish, and sea lions lounging along the coastline. Captain Chris shared fascinating stories about his heritage and growing up in this beautiful region, giving us insights into the area that you simply can't get from a guidebook or larger tour company. What made Ahous Adventures truly special was the personal connection both captains brought to their tours. Their stories about their culture, traditions, and deep connection to these waters transformed what could have been just wildlife viewing into something much more meaningful. You could feel their genuine passion for sharing both the natural wonders and cultural richness of their homeland. Supporting this Indigenous-owned business felt important to us, and the quality of the experience far exceeded our expectations. The captains' expertise, combined with their willingness to share their personal stories and cultural perspectives, created memories we'll treasure forever. If you're looking for an authentic, educational, and absolutely spectacular boat tour experience, Ahous Adventures is the company to choose.

Thank you so much for 2 trips of seeing incredible wildlife and scenery. As we've come from the UK I decided to book a bear watching trip one morning and a whale trip the following day. Wow wow wow.....we saw whales, bears, sea lions, sea otter, harbour seals and bald eagle. Both our guides were so knowledgeable not only about the wildlife but also the land. Thank you all for an unforgettable experience in Tofino. Emma and Myles
