Airborne Museum

A pretty extensive museum and experience divided into five buildings. If you're more specifically interested in the airborne, then this is for you. We've got some really good immersive rooms with flashing lights and sound that simulate what it was like on the battlefield as well as in an airborne aircraft troop carrier. There's also a good briefing experience simulator as well. Most of it is inside but there are some large pieces outside. The price is pretty reasonable.

On the same level as the Victory Museum with as a topic the landings in June 44 to backup the invasion on the beaches. All is very well done, the visual guide I never saw anywhere but the should have that in every museum. My son loved it and said that although everyone is speaking about D-day experience your museum is hundred times better.

Really easy to find, good access and parking, gets crowded at peak times due to the nature of its significance both as a museum and town. The museum is not expensive £10 each and boasts pods of the elements of the airborne tactics and features. Nice to see an actual glider, aircraft and artefacts relating to their conquest of the village. Well worth a visit, toilets, shop, exit/entrance right into the village and famous eglise

Absolutely do not miss if you are near. This museum has been completely renovated with fantastic exhibits. Everything is bi lingual. Parking is easy in front (pay parking).

As well as the museum, the town is a must see. Watch The Longest Day movie before visiting to give you a flavour of what the soldiers went through, and then see up close how they did it. The museum pays them homage in a very professional way. Well worth admittance fee. A definite stop off for when visiting the normandy landings region. 👍🏼 Big carpark near to the entrance for motorhomes (€2 for 8 hours), and you can park there overnight for a cost. Several good cafes and bars around the square to make the most of the day out.

Very moving. Loved every minute of it. Quite busy, and cost me about £50 for a family of 5. Parking across the road, cost me 4 euro for 24 hours. I'll let the pictures do the talking.

A very well put together museum covering the airborne aspects of D-day. Lots of historic equipment and vehicles really bring the exhibition to life. Worth keeping tickets as you can get a slight discount for a few other nearby museums.

This museum is well thought out with approximately 5 separate buildings representing different themes and time periods. The museum displayed many authentic items of the different periods in history.

This museum is located in the quaint little town of Sainte-Mère-Eglise. It's probably best known as the first town liberated by the Allied invasion but also for US paratrooper John Steele's landing, breaking his leg, and getting stuck on the town church's rooftop for 2 hours before being taken as a POW. The incident is immortalized here with a replica of John Steele still hanging from the rooftop. The incident was also portrayed in the D-Day movie The Longest Day.

Did not go inside museum itself, but the church itself is a museum all on its own. You can go inside and light candles for a small fee.

The Airborne museum dedicated to those who served during D-Day. A must see if you are in and around Normandie. While a bit in from the coast it is worth the drive and adventure. Several different pods well laid out and great displays. A gift shop is in the reception area. You can rent an interactive iPad that adds to the museum tour. We were visiting with a private group and the museum was very accommodating.

I simply cannot recommend this museum enough, it was one of my favorite experiences of all of the d-day museums we went to. We stopped here during a tour, but we easily could've spent an entire half of a day here. I recommend that if you're considering coming that you set aside, at least a couple hours at minimum. they have so much history, detailed here, as well as a wonderful dioramas, and you really feel immersed in the history. it was a little bit crowded on the day we went as well so again I really reccomend setting aside some time for this!!

One of my favorite WWII museums in Normandy, this multi building complex offers a variety of experiences. First off, and notably, this museum uses mannequins in their recreated scenes, and they are VERY REAL. If a mannequin looks like a bad dummy, then everything it emotes just feels dumb. But, if you find yourself caught off guard when your gaze catches the eye of a soldier or you pause to reflect, then the scene feels real and making those historical connections are made. That's a success! There's an entire building dedicated to the paratroopers that landed in St. Mere Eglise, and in that particular story there's a separate set of placards for children so they can follow the action on their own, and understand too. It's illustrated in a lighthearted manner so that it's approachable and not scary. There's also two different Horsa glider experiences--which you should Google, because...well you'll see. The first allows you to walk through an actual glider so that you can not only feel it's thin canvas walls, but take note of the cable systems that were used to operate the flaps. Insane. The second experience has you walking past a scene as if you were in a fully loaded glider and ready to jump out. The dark room, glass floor, and burst of air as you exit the glider has a truly visceral effect! Whoa, let me step back in the plane! If you're in St. Mere Eglise, swing by the airborne museum, you'll love it!

A decent small museum, right across from the eponymous church. Many artifacts relating to the airborne troops, as well as some vehicles and aircraft (C-47, CG-4.) Quiet well arranged to take advantage of fairly small buildings. There's a small gift shop. The museum was included with our tour, and it isn't an essential stop but was nice nonetheless.

This museum was a good stop, as part of the arranged full day guided tour thru Viator. Please see my other review about the Normandy Sight Seeing Tour. Inside this museum, it is being improved and there is some construction going on this day. I will be back again for sure!

This was our first stop on our D-Day road trip. It is well worth your time. The museum is comprised of 4 different buildings with vehicles and planes all over the gardens. Filled wit great information and loads of artifacts. They gave us iPads to follow a virtual tour as we walked. The iPads were included in the ticket price. You can do the whole thing in a hour. This was a great start to tour the D-day sights.

A small but informative museum. And u can bring a dog in a bag if u have a pet. N there's small shops and even restaurants or street food. English spoken around the area
