I just came home from a two week trip to Scotland, touring the country. The Airds hotel was one of my favorite hotels we stayed in. I am looking at the bad reviews, and I guess it all just comes down to expectations. I knew we were staying in an old building (hence, the creaking floors), with a limited number of rooms (hence, the small number of staff on board). We did receive a call earlier in the day letting us know their dining room was going to be closed that day. Thanks for the heads up and we found a different place to eat. No big deal. The hotel was clean, our room was so charming and the view out of our window was amazing. True, we were assigned one of the few rooms that have a view of the loch. They have a big lawn area, that if you have the time, you can play a game of croquet. It is just a charming, quaint place. The staff was friendly and breakfast was good. I don't drink coffee so the coffee machines in hotels never do me any good, but they had hot chocolate packets available as well. I would definitely stay there again if we were in the area.
