19 Best Things to Do in Dublin, From Bookstores to Breweries | Condé Nast Traveler

"It's a 38-acre farm and garden oasis ideal for families—offering activities like meeting donkeys, watching a cow milking, themed storytime, and nature crafts—and also hosts adult-focused experiences such as date-night cooking classes and houseplant and flower-arranging workshops." - Melissa Kravitz Hoeffner

Amazing place with great history behind and so many beautiful things to see! Very relaxing and also educational, plenty to do, many benches, paths and suitable for all ages. I can’t believe that I only discovered it recently, such a gem on the Dublin’s map❤️

A fantastic green oasis in the urban landscape, we had a curated tour by the amazing Sarah who went above and beyond in entertaining our group of Adults and children. Lovely to see animals, fruits, vegetables and flowers at the peak of the season. There is also a small farmers market and a restaurant using locally grown produce which were nice to browse and eat at, though the restaurant/cafe was busy.

Airfield Estate is a beautiful escape from the buzz of Dublin. The grounds are incredibly well maintained, with lovely walking paths, flower gardens, and wide-open spaces that are perfect for kids to run around. The working farm is a highlight — especially the cows, and chickens, and it’s great to see how food is produced sustainably. The café serves delicious, fresh meals made with produce from the estate — highly recommend the brunch! Staff are friendly and helpful, and there’s a calm, relaxed vibe throughout. A perfect spot for families, couples, or even a solo stroll with a coffee in hand. Can’t wait to come back in a different season to see how the gardens change!

Yesterday we spent a truly memorable day at Airfield Estate in Dundrum — it was one of those rare places where you can relax, learn, and enjoy real experiences as a family. We absolutely loved all the talks and tastings — from the Egg Talk at 10:00 🐔 to the fresh milk sampling at 10:30 🥛, every detail was engaging and thoughtfully presented. The Teddy Bear Picnic was a hit with the kids 🧸, and watching the sheepdogs in action was just brilliant. A special thank you and huge shoutout to our wonderful guide — her passion and knowledge made the day even more meaningful 💚. That said, we’d suggest adding more clearly marked stands with maps and up-to-date schedules around the estate. It would make planning the visit on-site much easier. Also, while the café had lovely options, the prices were a bit high and service was slow, even though there seemed to be enough staff. Overall, a beautiful place and a great way to spend the day outdoors. We’ll definitely be back!

Had an absolute blast and spent hours here! A lot of the activities are of course children-oriented, but they were totally suitable for adults as well. I loved the variety of animals there were to see up close (cows, sheep, chicken, goats, pigs) as well as the demonstrations available. The entire estate was beautiful to just walk around in and explore (woodland trail, gardens). I also did a guided tour at the Overends House and the tour guide was wonderful--friendly, knowledgable, and catered to all ages present. The Overends Kitchen had delicious food and there were a ton of vegan/vegetarian options. Extra plus for sustainability and sourcing the food from their own farm!

We go to this place nearly every week. The garden is beautiful and well maintained and there is a coffee shop that’s partly hidden among the trees inside the estate. The main coffee shop / restaurant is near the main entrance and when you arrive you can actually smell the food that they are cooking.

Google
A real gem. Lovely staff, beautiful gardens, interesting farm and charming house with an excellent guide. Good cafe with healthy food too. We went in the summer but I think it would make a pretty perfect day out at any time of year. Highly recommended.

Yelp
We HAD to leave a review for this wonderful place! We were visiting from California, and we enjoyed our time here tremendously. We brought our 8 and 10 year old kids, thinking we'd just see the animals really quickly. But, we ended up spending over 4 hours! We ate breakfast at the Overends Kitchen, and it was fantastic! Then we watched them collect chicken eggs and milk cows. So cool!! Then we walked around visiting adorable cows, calves, sheep, donkeys, and sheep! There were beautiful flower gardens and amazing trails that were so fun with the kids! They also had a fun playground!! There were so many other things to enjoy here that we didn't get to, but we absolutely loved our visit. We wish we lived in the area so we could visit more!

Yelp
Oh what a day it was......... I needed to evade the house cleaning binge my better looking half was on so what better way than to remove myself from the situation entirely and bring the little one to the farm. Great location just over 5 minutes stroll from Dundrum shopping centre and the luas stop. It began with a cupcake, ( it was awesome) then continued with rain. Luckily I was well prepared with wellies and waterproofs......... for the child. I unfortunately looked like a dog who fell in a well by the end of the day. The chickens were first and full of life and head bobbing joy, then on to the calves. This is where the fun started. My daughter began to harass the young things to say moo..... "SAY MOO COWS!!!! SAYYYY MOOOOOOOO" they proceeded to chew and blink............unimpressed. Everybody else however got a few giggles out of it. Then the pigs. Where the girl said " DO NOT under any circumstances put your fingers in. pigs WILL EAT that meat." My fearless soldier girl promptly put her entire hand in and started stroking the BIG and I mean BIG mammy pigs head whilst I nearly took a heart attack pulling her hand back out. Then the goats were the best part........... it was raining heavily by now.... there was no shelter nearby........ but giving the goats grass from our hands was the only thing she wanted to do, not even the lure of the ever amazing Mcdonalds could pull the 2 year old away from the beasts. All in all twas an odd day but I loved it! They also had some beautiful gardens and displays...... Well worth a visit for all the family members...... unless they are on a spring cleaning blitz. Then leave them at home, it worked for me!

Yelp
Picture it. The sun is shining... yeah I know, that is the most unlikely thing about this entire scenario, it's a Saturday, Q has put aside a couple of hours where he might go fly fishing or indeed just sit on the couch and scratch some of the more interesting bits of his anatomy.... Then I wake up and realise that although the sun in indeed shining there's not a hope in hell of getting 5 mins to myself, so I do the next best thing, pack the family off to Airfield house so I can at least wander the country lanes and smoke while my son tires himself out looking at all the beasties. This is a wonderful resource to have right on our doorstep - essentially, it is a farm but fixed to be public-friendly, there are lots of animals, gardens, orchards and walks through little lanes that make you think you are in the middle of no where. All in all a thoroughly pleasant afternoon out and by the time we get back to the car junior is so tired he is asleep in seconds. Oh happy happy day indeed! ...they have a cafe here too: http://www.yelp.ie/biz/overends-restaurant-stillorgan

Yelp
Can't believe I haven't been here before. They must have spent a fortune doing it up, and it looks amazing! Even in winter with little growing, it's a stunning place to walk around with kids. Can't wait to return in spring. Cafe is beautiful setting & food was very good quality. Staff very helpful & nice. I've no doubt this will be a tourist 'must see' in years to come. Think it was €20 for family ticket (2 under 3yrs), which I think is exceptional value. Maximum respect to the family, they could have cashed in & walked away from the place years ago. Well done!

Yelp
Beautiful grounds and gardens, this is a lovely estate to stroll around on a summers day, admiring the gorgeous flowers, the organic food garden and of course the bee garden. While some sections of the woodland walk are maybe a little narrow or slightly steep, I would think it's pretty manageable for both elderly and young. There are benches in the gardens for those who need to take the weight off and if you don't fancy the cafe/restaurant (we've had mixed experiences and it's expensive enough) there are picnic tables where you can enjoy a packed lunch. I would say Airfield is particularly suitable for pre-schoolers and early primary children who will find looking at the animals and bee habitat exciting, enjoy seeing how vegetables etc grow and of course the small playground area. However I don't think there's enough to excite children over the age of @ 6 who have probably experienced bigger, livelier farms, the zoo etc. There aren't that many animals to see and the small play area is definitely geared to the younger child. Although it's not a huge place there's a lot of wandering about attempting to get from one section to another. Better signposting needed! Overall this is a lovely spot for a relaxed, gently paced morning or afternoon.

Yelp
Airfield Trust. A little gem on the south side of the city that many seem to have yet discover. The grounds (which you pay to enter but I would not begrudge that at all) has farm animals, a vintage car house, a sculpted garden, an unsculpted garden, some cheeky but friendly goats and vegetable patches. They do school days, talks, classes (for children and adults), in winter they have a Green Santa and in summer the occasional music event. Its a great place to bring young children to explore nature and see the animals (chickens, goats, pigs, ducks, etc). The house is free to enter, thats where the cafe is. This is a lovely place to bring an aunt for coffee and cake however It may be pricey if your a family on a budget. Just bring a picnic and eat in the picnic area instead (which is in the grounds). Over all I really like what The Airfield Trust have being working to achieve here and I would recommend exploring the grounds for yourself. Or even just wander to the website to get started http://www.airfield.ie/

Yelp
Airfield is a 38 acre working farm, right in Dundrum! The best part is the farmyard area - if you get there for milking times, you can have a look at how it all happens, and also help the staff collect the eggs from the 50 something laying hens. There are also sheep, pigs, chickens and donkeys; very exciting for any city kids to spend time with!

Yelp
Poor service. Have to pay for car parking before buying tickets, then get ripped off in the cafe. Avoid.

Yelp
Pleasant experience, good food good coffee, could do with some sound dampening features, the restaurant can get quite loud. But over all a rather pleasant place to eat

Yelp
I arrived in to the restraurant on a cold day andI was freezing. The manageress saw me at the door. It was lunch time. The place was busy, but she took the time to say hello and to personally get my order. The food was excellent, and the coffee too. There is a lovely atmosphere in the restraurant, and there are plenty of tables. There is plenty of parking outside, and when the weather allows I will go back to investigate the house, the garden, and the garden centre.

Yelp
Very nice interior and atmosphere. I just like to hordes of screaming children at the weekend. Vegetarian/vegan option could have been better. Nice service tho.

Yelp
Fairly small and lackluster. Only worth a trip in early spring right after the baby lambs are born. It seems overpriced for what it is.
