Very tasty, rather inauthentic vegan ramen great for a lunch-time option in this area (closed for dinner).
Located in a very rough part of town, it's not so pleasant walking here. The cafe is located in a big, old heritage building with other offices, and you need to be let in, as the main door is kept locked (a good idea here). The cafe is tiny and there are a handful of casual tables. I got the Sesame Chili Tan Tan Ramen ($14.50 plus tax; vegan), which came out in under 10 minutes. It's served in a wide bowl, unlike most ramens, and with a not ideal recyclable spoon that isn't great for broth. Nevertheless, the actual dish is excellent: you get a nice portion of kale noodles and all sorts of veggies (spinach, cooked Chinese greens, pickled veggies, cucumber, a few slices of carrot, and some salad leaves. The broth is rich, sesame-y, and savoury, but not spicy at all, with a really nice flavour complexity. Really quite an impressive dish in a city with now tons of vegan ramen options.
The service was unfailingly kind and eager to find any way to improve what they do.
If you find yourself in this area for lunch, I'd recommend checking them out.
