We stayed at this hotel for four days. After having stayed in two other five-star hotels on the island, we can clearly say that this one does not meet five-star standards. The location is good, but the hotel is seriously understaffed, which results in a very low level of service. Our room was not cleaned properly, even though we were often out between 9 a.m. and 4–5 p.m. At lunchtime, waiting times at the restaurant were extremely long. The staff is friendly and clearly doing their best, but they are obviously overwhelmed due to the lack of personnel. At the pool, guests have to compete for sun loungers, as many people reserve them for the entire day without any control. The hotel has a beautiful setting and kind staff, but there are far too many details that make the overall experience unworthy of a five-star hotel. It cannot be compared to the quality and service level of hotels like The Palm Hotel, for example. Considering the high price, we do not recommend this hotel

Pros: clean, smells nice, near the beach, good pastries Cons:
This is my first time ever leaving a bad review, and unfortunately the stay really was that bad. 1.) WiFi
Does not work at all, despite asking for help continuously for 6 days (our entire stay). My sister brought her laptop to prepare for university applications and interviews, and I had business meetings. We were forced to use our own data and spent €40 on roaming data (we are tourists). I asked for help several times every day, spoke to many staff members, but nothing was fixed and no one seemed to care. Every time, they treated me like I didn’t know how to connect to WiFi and kept saying “just forget the WiFi and reconnect 😅.” As a Gen Z, I definitely know how to connect to WiFi. I told them I had already tried that, but they kept repeating the same unhelpful advice. I showed them in person, and they turned around and said it was my phone’s issue. I had 5 devices and none of them connected 😂. Even the technician and manager’s phone couldn’t connect. I eventually gave up and bought data instead. But I needed WiFi to buy more because I ran out. I went to reception hoping for some WiFi, but it was too weak and wouldn’t load anything. I had to walk to the nearest restaurant to borrow their WiFi just to buy more data, which is ridiculous. WiFi is listed in the room description, and for a 5-star hotel, this should be the bare minimum. 2.) Food * Portions were extremely small for the price. * Staff looked at me strangely when I didn’t order her recommendation—my sister is allergic to seafood, which is what she suggested. * Breakfast buffet (€25): very disappointing. Limited options, dry food, juice not fresh, fridge not cold. Salmon and ham tasted strange, sausages were hard and stale. Scrambled eggs looked ashy and milky and tasted watery—I genuinely couldn’t taste the egg and wasn’t sure what I was eating. * Food was not refilled often; even lettuce ran out. * Restaurant only opens on certain days and times. For a hotel, especially with no restaurants nearby, this is unacceptable. * I always love hotel food, but this was not it. I chose Uber Eats over hotel food, which says a lot. * Staff do not approach or explain things; you have to go to them first. Minor compared to everything else, but confusing at the start. 3.) Phone * Room phone cannot call outside numbers, which is very impractical for tourists. * Reception line barely goes through and is almost always busy. * Room service is extremely slow. Water and towels took 40 minutes, and I had to call 3 times to remind them. 4.) Room * Door is very hard to shut; you have to slam it. * Hotel staff opened my door without knocking or giving any notice. I was naked 😐 * Paid for a deluxe room, yet there is no bathtub—only a standing shower with no curtain, so the bathroom floor gets completely wet. (Description does say it’s a shower but just expected that from a 5 star hotel) * Balcony “ocean view” is partly blocked by a tree. 5.) Location
There is nothing nearby. Taxis are expensive. Only convenient if you drive. 6.) Hotel layout - is confusing, cramped, difficult to navigate. The hotel is full of mosquitoes—I got bitten 7 times in 20 minutes. Overall:
Not worth the price at all. Would never come back. Staff seemed nice on the surface but did not get things done and were not helpful. Every issue was met with “I’ll check with my colleague,” and nothing was resolved. If food matters to you, don’t expect much. I’ve stayed in many 5-star hotels, and this has to be the worst. Ironically, even the stars at the hotel gate are partly rubbed off… lol

I am filing a formal complaint against Akoya Hotel & Spa La Réunion for a serious breach of security, privacy, and hotel management obligations. At 11:00 PM, 3 hotel staff members entered my room without notification and consent, even though the door was locked from inside and I was clearly occupying the room. Only after I strongly protested did she explain that, due to an internal error, my room was incorrectly shown as vacant in the hotel system, meaning my check-in had not been properly registered. This incident reveals 3 unacceptable failures: 1. Illegal intrusion into an occupied private space, causing distress and violating guest privacy. 2. Severe security failure, as a locked hotel room could still be opened from outside. 3. Chaotic and negligent check-in management, since the hotel failed to correctly register my occupancy. Under French law, an occupied hotel room is legally considered a private space. Unauthorized entry may constitute legal violation regardless of intent. In addition, hotels in France have a legal duty of care and security toward their guests, including proper registration, access control, and protection of privacy. This incident is extremely serious and unacceptable for any hotel, let alone one claiming high standards. I formally protest this conduct and expressly reserve all rights to pursue legal action.

We went to the island of Réunion, with little to no knowledge of what the island had to offer before we went. The Akoya hotel was our base, going out to explore from the hotel, - Brillant, comfortable rooms, concierge was easily reached, water service 2 a day when the room was cleaned or in the evening. - Amenities, there is a Breakfast buffet, highly recommend, french, american and reuniónese food on offer and good selection on fruits and drinks. - The gym we used and it was well equipped, with cardio and weights machines. There is a spa available with a assortment of treatments available. - The restaurant at the hotel The food was very good and the service and price were fair. - The pool The pool and loung area are fantastic, laying there, watching the waves of the Indian Ocean breaking and hitting the beach, and the faint background noise is brilliant. The pool bar has a different lunch menu and good assortment of drinks. The sun loungers where very comfortable. We rented a car and had no issues at all getting a parking space by the hotel, as they gave a private parking area for guests. The beach The Plague de la saline was on easily accessible from the hotel and offers a variety of restraunts and bars in a walking distance. - Finally the staff at the hotel, We are not native french speakers, and the island of Reunion does not at this moment cater to English speakers, however, the staff at Akoya, did there best and went above and beyond for us. As en example we had an issue with our rental car and talked with the concierge and they phoned the car rental and sorted the issue on our behalf. Finally - I would recommend the Akoya for anyone who is visiting Reunion Island, the service/amenities, the staff and the location were all brilliant. The rooms might need an update soon, keep that in mind, but the staff at the hotel and all of the things mentioned made it a worthwhile stay.

A great location with a spectacular swimming beach on the doorstep. The hotel seems to have lost its shining light. The gardens are run down, a lot of obvious maintenance issues and a lack of 5 star touches. The amenities and facilities are all there just lacks love and passion, all of which can be turned around.

As a star rated hotel I expected a bit more, the overall service is great but the decor are but dated. However, I still had a pleasant stay because the location is closer to music festivals and restaurants at decent price point.

Lovely hotel and manager was super helpful.|We only spent one night after our flight was cancelled. The room are spacious and the bed very comfortable. We had a good night sleep and tried a very good breakfast. The view on the sea is beautiful. We will have to come back for a longer stay next time!

Really amazing hotel located right across from Saline les Bains. The hotel staff were all super friendly and helpful even we struggled to communicate freely due to our lack of French fluency but some staffs spoke good enough English so it was absolutely not an issue! ||The rooms were super spacious and comfortable with a nice sit out (we had the garden facing room). Quality of sleep was absolutely amazing due to the very good sound proofing and excellent mattress/pillow. No complaints at all!! ||The only drawback, if at all, was the lack of eating options within the hotel. However, there’s 3-4 excellent restaurants along the beach and within a 3-4 minute walk. ||Really highly recommended hotel to stay if you’re visiting Reunion and want to just recharge your batteries!!
