Akumal Dive Shop

We completed our PADI Advanced Open Water course with Akumal Dive Shop and we were incredibly pleased! Fito was our instructor and he was tremendous! He was knowledgeable, patient, and very personable too! We did 5 dives over 2 days and the highlight was definitely the night dive where we saw a nurse shark, a massive barracuda, and luminescent plankton with our torches off! Our confidence and competence improved dramatically under the supportive direction of Fito…we highly recommend diving with ADS and their team! Shoutout to Miguel for doing a tremendous job captaining our boat and all the assistance he provided!

Amazing diving experience in Akumal! Akumal beach is full of different diving and snorkeling courses, offered by various dive clubs and agencies. Among them, ADS clearly stands out as the most reliable and professional choice. The dive trip lasts about one hour, including a short boat ride to a nearby reef where you can see sea turtles, many kinds of fish, lionfish, barracudas, and more. Special thanks to Mr. Banderas – a true professional who made the experience even better 😁🍻… Highly recommended!

We walked up north from our resort and signed up for the snorkeling tour. Santos was great. We saw tons of fish in the reef and plenty of turtles / sting rays. We had such a good time that we decided to do the sunset tour the next day. The crew was fantastic and went above and beyond to celebrate a birthday. They even had prepared balloons and cake for the trip. Definitely recommend booking though here. They have plenty of other activities as well.

We booked a 6 hour fishing and snorkelling tour with Akumal Dive Shop and had a phenomenal time. Our captain Raul and guide Diego took excellent care of our group. We had an amazing time catching Barracuda and Bonito, snorkelling in a beautiful sheltered bay and eating fresh ceviche. Diego and Raul really went above and beyond, we even came back to Akumal Dive Shop for a guided snorkel with turtles and sting rays thanks to Diego!

Our family stayed at the Bahia Principe Grand Coba and I did alot of research before our trip. We booked the Robinson Cruso catamaran day trip and it was the absolute highlight of our trip. The kids loved it, the adults loved it, and I would 100% do it again if we find ourselves in the area. The Dive Shop is in a safe area and was a 10 minute cab ride form our resort. The people there were so nice and accomodating. They cooked us fresh fish and made frresh guacamole and ceviche while we were anchored in the snorkeling area. Also it was the perfect length of time - we didnt want to book an 8-12 hour tour because we like our resort amenities. 100% book this trip.

Horrid service and communication. We sat for 90 minutes, being sure to be early and ready for our first dive with them, and not a word of what was intended, what was needed, no real introduction of our DM… 5 min before leaving (well after we were supposed to start) they told us to hurry up and get ready, gearing up on shore and carrying our tanks to the boat. My 65 lb son had to carry his full size tank to the boat, no help. I’ve loved every other shop we’ve dove with in multiple countries, this was very poorly managed. There clearly needed to be someone in charge to organize things at the shop.

That’s for snorkelling with turtules. Great overall. Our guide, Rebecca, was great and straight to the point. Kudo to her for helping my wife relax after jumping off the boat. Great facilities too. Only thing is the online communication did not work well after they got our deposit. We decided just to go early in morning and figure it out. Better off calling directly and speaking with a human instead of online.

I am a Canadian Instructor visiting Mexico for training and vacation and came to Akumal to do a fun dive with a friend who wanted to try a Discover dive. The staff in the shop were very friendly and helpful. All communication through email and Whatsapp was clear and the dive day went very smoothly. My friend had Fito as an Instructor, and he was very patient and kind training her and one other first time diver. He really tried to foster independence and confidence in the Discover students from what I heard from both of them and from what I observed during the dive. Although, my friend didn't end up doing the actual dive (due to fear and anxiety), he was very kind and encouraged her to pursue it in the future when she was ready. She made sure to emphasise that he did a great job despite her choosing to sit out of the dive. If I could've, I would've booked more dives with the shop. We saw a beautiful reef, lots of fish, and 2 turtles (first one was at least 1m -1.5m and had large remoras attached). They were very kind to allow us to continue using the lockers and showers for a couple more hours while we enjoyed a relaxing afternoon on the beach.
