Akureyrarkirkja

Beautiful church. Honestly, this was one of my favorite spots while visiting Akureyri. Each stained glass window alternated pictorial depictions of the gospel and of Icelandic Christian history and heritage. It was moving and awe inspiring. It was such a beautiful display of local and national culture, and intricately displayed the intrinsic connection between Iceland’s national heritage with Christianity

We have visited Akureyri twice now, and an iconic sight visible from all along the waterfront is the Akureyri new modern church. We were unable to get to it to enter either visit, but enjoyed the architecture from the outside. I believe the two front spires are mostly decorative, but this makes it reminiscent of a European medieval catholic cathedral in style..

Worth a visit. Beautiful modern church that overlooks the town and the water. Some interesting stained glass and an amazing organ. Was designed by the same architect from Hallgrímskirkja in Reykavik.

Lutheran church I read they only close it for celebrations and funerals and I wondered when this would happen. Well we went today and there was a funeral going on. We saw the family and understood for whom was the ceremony for and it was very sad. The climb up builds heat specially when it's cold

Beautiful church right in the middle of this town. We couldn't go inside as it was closed in off peak hours. The entire place was really beautiful. The view of the city from the church compound was very pretty.

Pretty church, with a clean design. The view of the city from the church was also great. Good shopping and food options in the central area right next to the church.

A beautiful church worth seeing from outside as well as from the inside. Around it there’s a lot of parking spots that only needs to be paid from Monday to Friday 10-4pm.
