I spent about 30 minutes in this museum. It has a nice selection of contemporary Icelandic art, and the exhibits were all intriguing to look at. Additionally, the gift store was a treasure trove-- lots of work by local poets and / or situated in the country's punk scene.

Interesting works by Icelandic artists. Very small museum. Lovely café. Visit knit shop across the street. If your in to knitting!

It is great that the town has a art museum. The day we visited it , the exhibition was mostly focused on contemporary art than modern art. Interesting pieces, specifically the coton paintings by Denya Zakn where your mind gets lost in their darkness. I also liked Jonas Vidar Sveinsson untitled white painting. On 3 floors, starts from the 4th

Huge area on multiple levels with many thought-provoking displays. There is also a place to store bags, bathrooms and a small cafe.

I was stopping by in Akureyri for only a few hours and this was a lovely little museum to visit. I came less than an hour before closing but the man behind the desk was very friendly and gave me information on how to get the most out of my short visit. You can get an idea of all the exhibits in 30-60 minutes. They had a wonderful, moving exhibition on the top floor called The Visitors that I would recommend to anyone. The local artists and children's work they were displaying was quite charming too. Enjoy some coffee at the cafe before you go! It's delicious!

Sadly the museum was not open half an hour after when it was supposed to (12.30). Noone in charge to ask. The coffee place of the same building had no idea why.

Great little museum right in the middle of town. I’m SO happy with the art work on canvas that I bought by G. Ringsted. The woman at the museum who sold them to me was very helpful and friendly. The museum is a must see in Akureyri!!!

A great museum with very interesting exhibitions of Icelandic art! The photos in my review do not include one of the exhibitions with installations in a dark room, which was very special! In short, I highly recommend everyone in Akureyri to visit this museum.
