I had a great time here. Fish and chips were good. I think everyone I met was American. Kind of a bummer. But got a lot of insight and intelligence into where to go and what to see. Great place to charge your phone. Get a beer. Wash your clothes. Feel your belly.

I stopped in the bar area while touring to just sit and relax for a while and enjoy one of their many beers on tap. It's was a peaceful rest stop. They also had a variety of bar type foods available. Overall, the atmosphere was nice and I'd recommend visiting, even if it's just to relax a little in the bar area like I did.

Got Lunch here. Really tasty fish and chips. Quite different batter to what we're typically used to in the UK but in a good way. My partner enjoyed his tacos. Service was prompt and prices were pretty standard for the area.

No comments on the accommodation as we stayed next door. This is a write-up of the bar-restaurant, which is one of the largest in Akureyri. A huge missed opportunity, as it could be showcasing the beers from local breweries but instead puts up a bunch of regular lagers from the big brewer down south. The food lacked imagination too, though perfectly serviceable. Maybe backpackers have lower standards nowadays but when I travelled that way I wanted to find authenticity.

The rooms in this hotel are located above a restaurant, and there is a live performance downstairs, which is very noisy. There are too many drunks on the first floor, and privacy is not guaranteed. Girls should choose carefully. The sanitary conditions of the room are worrying, not to mention the shower, which is very inconvenient. It is the worst place I have stayed in Iceland.

It the was the most disappointing hostel in Iceland. The roller blind was broken, as well as one bulb. The restroom were dirty, as were the showers (poop stains, hair and hairs everywhere). It's not well-fitted for backpackers at all, because there is no kitchen at all, only an electric kettle and a microwave. There is a fridge but inside the bar part, so every client have a fre access to the little transparent fridge. Hence, let your bottle in the fridge is not an option. There is no sink. I think this is made to make clients buy food at restaurant, which is pretty expensive. Moreover, this is very noisy, because of the night bar and the small concert hall next to the hostel. The second night, we booked a night in an hostel close to this one, which was a REAL hostel. And it was one third cheaper. I put 2 stars because of the location and the kindness of the staff, but you can find a better price/performance ratio litterally anywhere else.

Great spot for some affordable dinner. The reindeer burger was tasty and the beer was refreshing. Watch out for the seagulls when sat outside though!

I stayed one night at Akureyri Backpackers and had a good experience overall. The room was spacious and comfortable, and the shared bathrooms were super clean. The only downside was that the showers are located on the ground floor while I was staying on the third floor, which was a bit inconvenient. The walk-in experience without a traditional check-in was interesting—just make sure to carefully read the messages/emails they send you with the access code. Overall, an okay place for a short stay.
