If you want to eat real homemade Italian you definitely need to go there! I am huge fan of gnocchi and those gnocchis reminded me to my grandma’s ! The flavour of the pasta is nothing to do with the rest of the places ! Is very local and you are served by the very creator and owner of the place. We have one of our best meals in Capri !

Compared to other restaurants here, this one hasn’t got a fancy interior or view, but the food is real deal. It’s a bit like a family kitchen. I recommend clam spaghetti (do choose big clams when available, it’s several euros more but worth it), ravioli. Also they have freshly squeezed lemon juice with nothing else, try it if you dare🤣

Google
We found a hidden gem! This was by far the best dinner we had during our 2 weeks across Italy! The waiters and the owner were super attentive and it was just a delight to be there, the atmosphere was excellent. But more than anything, the quality of the food was superb! We had the mussels and clams as an appetizer and the lobster seafood pasta - I think I will have dreams about it for weeks to come. The most delicious and delicate flavors I could expect in such a dish. Also, the owner suggested a couple of wines to pair our meal with based on our different taste and it was a hit! Definitely recommend, we will come back next time we are in Capri!

Google
Unimportant. This is the best way to describe our experience. One hour wait for an appetizer and a two hour wait for the main course which was mediocre at best. Even though we were sitting in the middle of the restaurant and the owner was literally brushing by us multiple times, he never even made eye contact. Not until we asked for the check immediately after finishing our meal, did he notice us. If you are not a movie star or wealthy local, expect to be ignored here.

Google
The good reviews are all true. I speak rudimentary Italian at best and found no issue with communication and ordering. The restaurant is conveniently located a 2 minute walk away from the final stop on the Funicolare Di Capri. It's a very cozy restaurant. You can tell a lot of love goes into the food here. Incredible meals, friendly service, and an overall 10/10 lunch experience. Grazie!

Google
This is a MUST for anyone visiting the island. Al Grottino is everything that makes Capri special: the owner is there to greet you and spend time explaining the menu, recommending fantastic wine pairings, and to show the special of the day. In our case, it was the most delicious live lobster dish we have ever had! The staff is all very attentive and the their pride of the establishment shines through each of them. The atmosphere is cozy and made us feel like we were coming home. This was by far the best dining experience we have had on Capri, and quite possibly in all of the places we’ve been in Italy. If I could give 6 stars, I would.

Google
The food and service here were amazing. We got serviced by the owner of the place and the food was delicious. We ordered the lemon pasta and gnocchi al ragu as the main dishes. For dessert, we ordered the lemon cake, chocolate cake and Tiramisu. If you can't try all three, it is a must to try at least the Tiramisu.

Hayley Macias

Google
It seemed like a very nice family owned restaurant. The owner was there & was very nice. The food was great & felt very authentic, the tiramisu was especially delicious! This place is tucked away a little so we went for lunch & didn’t have to wait. If you are looking for an authentic Italian meal, definitely give this place a try!

Yelp
Cozy place and Nice Food ~ especially the main dish - fish and seafood soup. It's a semi underground restaurant, Don't miss it

Bobby W.

Yelp
Fantastic meal and wonderful hospitality and service. I cant say enought positive things about the dining experience. Highly recommended

Tamara G.

Yelp
We had an exceptional dining experience! Despite the restaurant's intimate size, the staff graciously accommodated our party of nine, seating us in two nearby groups. Each of us savored something different, and the highlights were plentiful. The fish was incredibly fresh, presented to us before preparation. The steak paired with rosemary potatoes was mouthwatering, and the lemon pasta with red shrimp was a standout dish. What truly made our evening shine was the excellent service. The team's attention to detail and warm hospitality made our visit truly unforgettable.

Michael W.

Yelp
Don't think about going anywhere else! Giafranco was the most humble owner who provides attentive service with the most amazing food. My girlfriend enjoyed the homemade pasta with clams, I had the 2 lb T bone steak. We had potato croquettes, fried cheese, and fresh sliced ham and melons. You may find a restaurant with a view but your food will never compare. It was my birthday and the experience was to die for. Best birthday ever!

Yelp
We visited here on our last night in Capri, which ended up being a great choice for us. We came here as a group of 3 without a reservation, and the gracious staff sat us immediately. The restaurant itself was very cute and home-y, and we felt very welcome. There were lots of choices on the menu, spanning between pasta, vegetables, seafood and other meats. We chose the gnocchi, veal lemon piccata, and ravioli, which were all very tasty. Understanding that this is a very touristy destination, we expected it to be a bit pricey (around 15-20 euro per person), but of course wish a bit more was included for the price point. Still, I think this is a very solid restaurant choice during your Capri trip!

Andre C.

Yelp
My wife and I had an amazing meal here will visiting Capri. The service was great and very authentic, and they didn't mind we were dining with a toddler. The space is small and quaint, and is a great break from the more touristy feeling destinations. Highly recommend, enjoy!

Marsha R.

Yelp
Gorgeous restaurant, amazing food! Homemade Pasta! Beautiful afternoon lunch in Gorgeous Capri! Wished you were in California!!! The Owner makes you feel like family.

Cindy W.

Yelp
Wonderful experience for food, service and ambience! 2nd generation owned place, just off the touristy section of Capri. Anna Kendrick had just visited a month before. Fresh, homemade pasta, with local seafood was to die for! Wide selection of Regional wines topped it off. Very highly recommend this little gem!

Nicole M.

Yelp
The lemon pasta you have to get it! I got the shrimp pasta and it was good - but I was scraping my husbands plate with my bread every chance I got!!! The pasta is handmade and fresh which makes l the difference!

Nick E.

Yelp
We stopped here for a quick lunch between the port and the Gardens of Agustus. Great little spot tucked away with amazing dishes!

Beth T.

Yelp
Amazing food, service and wine. Loved this place!! Ravioli dish was amazing as well as steak that my husband received.

Victor G.

Yelp
Guys this is best seafood Restaurant on this island . Octopus salad was the best I ever had. Highly recomand . Burata salad is to die for , very fresh. Seafood Risotto and lemon pasta is 5 star . We also had a warm appetizer Scarola Napolitana which is chef specialty, delicious and rich in flavor. Service and owner are very friendly and attentive!

Eve L.

Yelp
Best place in capri. Fresh, intimate, and friendly staff. Fresh pasta, fish, etc. local wine.

Kelly A.

Yelp
Great food, great service, great portions. The owner is very involved with every aspect of service. The truffle pasta with zucchini flowers was amazing. The fish of the day and oysters were so fresh. One of my favorite dining experiences in Capri. Reservations are recommended so you sit at a more centrally located table, but the owner does his best to accommodate all walk ins.

Joel A.

Yelp
Excellent food! Really nice ambiance. Food was great and owner sold us a bottle of wine at a great price! Updated review

Adam M.

Yelp
Really great little place, just off the main town square in Capri. We found it via Yelp and were hoping that the reviews didn't steer us wrong. They did not. We were welcomed warmly as we arrived. It is a pretty small place but very well decorated. The service and the food were excellent. So was the wine. I highly recommend this place -- it was a great experience.

Jason B.

Yelp
Chef/owner is very kind and personal - creating a great atmosphere. Food is outstanding. I think I may have had the best pasta and clams in my life, and this was at lunch. Lemon pasta was excellent as well but the clam dish was next level. Highly recommend.

Matthew S.

Yelp
This was the single greatest tomato sauce I have ever tasted in my life, The service was amazing, especially the owner. And the ambiance was amazing also, not too touristy and very quiet.

Ben T.

Yelp
Best restaurant in Italy hands down ... and we've been to more than a few. The owner is so nice and gave us the best recommendations. Outstanding food and service. Makes our experience is Capri much more heightened. Thank you.

Simon M.

Yelp
Great Food , Great View , great service with Gianni !! I've been going every year for 29 years

Jenna S.

Yelp
Amazing place to have dinner in Caprì! The service is incredible and so is the food! The owner is the sweetest, and we loved our experience here.

Jeff B.

Yelp
So good we came back a 2nd time this week! Staff is fantastic. Kitchen goes out of the way to make fettuccine which is not even in the menu. I had the pasta and seafood dish, absolutely phenomenal! I highly recommend this quaint little restaurant.

Kayleen R.

Yelp
We will forever remember this place , it was our first dinner in Italy and we were amazed and impressed with how fresh and delicious the food was ! Best food we have ever had. The waiter was friendly and nice. Will be back

Bozena M.

Yelp
A perfect way to end our trip! Thank you John Franco for an amazing culinary experience! The ravioli was best I have ever had and I cannot wait to come back! My husband also loved the lemon sauce pasta and we both enjoyed the appetizer! Amazing restaurant, great atmosphere and the finally reasonable prices! Do not miss this! 5* all around and I am a picky person!

Ryan G.

Yelp
Second time here. AMAZING AGAIN. Owner provides excellent recommendations, paired with great wine and the atmosphere is authentic. You have to come here!

Amy S.

Yelp
Food was not good, owner and employees were VERY nice. We had fruiti de mar pasta and didn't like the sauce. I had the pasta w shrimp and zucchini flowers which waiter said was the "pride of the restaurant" I found it to be very bland. We did not like our food. They offered to replace mine but I declined. Very nice wait staff I will say and it was packed, but we were very displeased w both of our dishes unfortunately.

Stephanie S.

Yelp
This restaurant was amazing. We got done with a boat tour and we were hungry at a weird time in Italy where almost everything is closed (3 pm). Luckily this place was open. I believe the owner/chef was there taking our orders and making our food. We started off with the calamari steak. It was huge and so tender, some of the best calamari I've had. I had the pasta with the shrimp and zucchini flowers. It was delicious, the pasta was handmade and so light. The sauce was light and delicious. I sampled the clam pasta, the shrimp pasta and the ragu. Everything was excellent. It was one of the best meals. I would highly recommend a stop by for some of the absolute best Italian food.

Dan C.

Yelp
Fantastic meal. House wine was the best we had. The lemon pasta and ravioli were so good. And the fried pasta special was perfect. This is a perfectly authentic Capri destination

Karina S.

Yelp
Best restaurant in Capri. Mr Jean-Franco (the owner) and his staff make you feel as if you were part of the family. The service is amazing, food right on. The octopus salad and clam spaghetti to die for. We stayed several days in capri and we had dinner every night during our s

Tom A.

Yelp
If only there were a zero star option.....The red sauce tastes like Chef Boyardee and the owner was a total a**hole to us and other customers.

Bob G.

Yelp
Spending a few days in Capri while on vacation in Italy and searched for a place that would be a good dining experience on this magical island and Al Grottono hit the mark. A little hard to find, but well worth it! Small, so on a busy night expect to be close to the tables around you, but this adds to the fun. Owner is helping take orders, bus tables and offer suggestions to your dining. The food is very good, I had the lemon based pasta and my wife had the ravioli - both served hot, and were very tasty. Service was a bit slow due to two large parties, but order another bottle of wine and enjoy! Bravo!

Paige C.

Yelp
Food was terrible, sauce tasted like it was canned, the decor was tacky, and the staff was rude. There are so many other wonderful restaurants you should explore instead of this one.

Jessica G.

Yelp
Perfecto!!! We absolutely loved this cozy, authentic restaurant off the beaten path in Capri. We stumbled across it while we were lost and it was such a great find. Jean Franco (owner) and his staff are impeccable. The service was swift and warm. We started with fried mozzarella- my husband was craving. It was light and yummy. Def a good starter that won't fill you up. I had the seafood pasta filled with mussels, clams and incredible prawns. It was simply amazing. It was the dish I had been searching for the whole trip. Man did it deliver! My husband had cheese ravioli. It was amazing. I am Not a fan of ravioli but I loved it too. The food was hot, served with perfect timing. Also wonderful wine list!! This is a must do if in Capri.

Stephanie P.

Yelp
Delicious, wonderful! Best words to describe the experience. We are here in Capri for only a few days and wanted to enjoy the foods of the amalfi coast. From the moment I called to make reservations, the owner was welcoming and helpful. He asked where I was staying and gave me directions from my hotel. When we walked in, he had our table reserved, no wait at all. Quaint restaurant amidst the center of Capri. It's down an alley so easy to miss but once you taste the food, the place is unforgettable. My sister and I started with the caprese salad (upgrade to the bufala mozzarella, well worth it) and the mussels. The freshest mussels I've even tasted in a tasty light tomato sauce. We, then decided to share the seafood coccotte (excuse my spelling). It comes prepared in a dutch oven with homemade linguine. Amazing! The mussels, clams and prawns are so fresh they taste as if they came right from the sea to the table. We decided to finish our culinary journey with the Capri cake. A light chocolate cake with nuts, so good and satisfying. And the entire time, the owner made us feel welcome, as if we known each other for years, not rushing us either even though he had several people waiting for a table. Only here in Capri for a few more days but intend on going back for some lunch. If you are ever in Capri, take my advice and stop in at All Grottino. You will thank me!

Michelle M.

Yelp
It's a hike up but very pretty view! Very authentic Italian restaurant. Lunch would be best

Dani L.

Yelp
Wow just wow. By far the best restaurant in Capri! The food, service, and ambience was wonderful. I truly enjoyed everything at Al Grottino. The service was impeccable, and the owner took care of everything we needed. He was able to accommodate everyone and everything for us. The vongole pasta was fresh and tasty, as well as the caprese pasta and bolognese. It was all magical. All the tables were full and the restaurant clean and tidy. The bathrooms are also very well taken care of.

Jennifer C.

Yelp
The restaurant was tucked away in a small alley. It was an effort to find it, but it was a great find. The food was cooked with love. Fresh mozzarella with cherry tomatoes, looked blend but it was creamy, deeply flavorful and heavenly. Mixed shellfish with hand cut pasta was suggested by the owner, and it did not disappoint. Ravioli was excellent too. We were so happy to find an amazing restaurant amongst the tourist traps.

Jeffrey S.

Yelp
My wife and I enjoyed dinner at Al Grottino on a rainy Wednesday (note that Wednesday most restaurants in Capri are closed but Al Grottino is open). We were seated by a gentleman, who we think is the owner and we occasionally observed in the kitchen cooking, and served by another local Italian. Both had passable but not great English. The restaurant is a small, elegant, restaurant just off the main square in Capri. It's an intimate setting with pretty white ceilings. We ordered a few pasta dishes to share based on recommendations from our server. The first, an excellent seafood pasta that we highly recommend. Both of us cleaned our plates with bread because the sauce was so flavorful. The second, a ravioli filled with mozzarella and served with tomatoes and fresh basil - also excellent and we were both members of the clean plate club. The third, a risotto, never arrived. We think it may have been lost in translation. No problem, we enjoyed a panna cotta for dessert which was excellent. Overall, a nice dinner and we would probably return. The restaurant did fail to serve us one dish we ordered and didn't do anything above and beyond but the food was great, atmosphere was cozy, and service was fine.

Carly G.

Yelp
Let me first say that I rarely write reviews, but my experience at Al Grottino in Capri was so on another level that I had to let you all know. This is a very special place, the kind of amazing family oriented Italian restaurant that you dream about eating at. The owner, Jean Franco, mans the ship every night and treated us like we were a part of his family. At a glance Al Grottino looks like nothing special -- small indoor dining room with not-so-hip torquoise table cloths -- but as soon as you sit down you slowly realize you're in for a magical evening. The menu has a lot of items on it, and so we decided to trust the staff and just tell them what we were in the mood for -- they took that and ran with it. For antipasti we had the Octopus Carpaccio and it was phenomenal -- very light and the perfect way to ease into an adventurous local dish. Pasta course we had the Gnocci Bolegnese, only way to describe it was "umami". For secondi we had a special pork cutlet with wine / caper / green olive sauce that was unexpectedly delicious. Jean Franco poured us a half glass of wine with each course he selected to be paired. We eat at amazing restaurants in San Francisco all the time and this place was easily better than the best neighborhood Italian restaurant in North Beach. For what it's worth, we were waking down past Al Grottino on our last night in Capri and Jean Franco spotted us, called us back into the restaurant for glass of Prosecco on the house and we ended up spending the rest of the evening there -- we had a ravioli appetizer and the seafood pasta special, both to die for. Can't say enough about the service, staff, food, atmosphere, and just down to earth vibes. That combination can sometimes be hard to find on Capri, so this place is a diamond in the rough.

Yelp
Came here because it had good reviews but I STRONGLY advise you not to come. Biggest mistake of our entire vacation. 1) I ordered the pasta w/ scampi (€14). This is a select your own pasta so I chose Gnocchi. I was presents their gnocchi dish with ragu sauce (€13) no scampi. not only was this not what I requested but when I asked where the scampi was the waiter said that I ordered the gnocchi dish. He said it is what it is. He offered to bring me the pasta with scampi after if I wanted but it would be too much food. 2) we ordered the special fish of the day he was advertising. It was mediocre. A whole fish fillet that is filled with bones and scales. Not what I expected for €36. 3) Still water is expensive €5. Half a bottle of wine is expensive €14. Given the prices we've seen in the area, this is very steep. While bill ends up being €76. And we aren't full or happy with the food we received. Not to mention the waiter/(owner?) is rude and pushy. Take your money elsewhere and dine at any other restaurant but this one. 1 star because there is free wifi

Brandon F.

Yelp
Place is great very authentic restaurant. Tons of good wine and bourbon. I got the veal which was delicious. Their manager or possibly owner was greeting everyone too. Best Italian food I had in Capri

Chelsea M.

Yelp
I was traveling alone in Capri the last couple of days and happened to stumble into Al Grottino. What a hidden treasure! They had an extensive wine list, in which I appreciated and food options for everyone. I ordered the caprese salad and prawn pasta. It did not disappoint! Wonderful, fresh flavors! John Franco, the owner was very attentive and extremely knowledgeable. At the end of the meal he even gave me a limoncello highly recommended this place!

Wesley P.

Yelp
So apparently there was a washed up former American TV star there that sucked up all the attention of the owner and wait staff. I think the owner prides himself more with yapping about pseudo celebrities that appear there rather than providing a great meal experience. We ordered the octopus salad, which was mediocre, and the ceviche, which was absolutely horrible. It was a scant amount of fish, pounded tissue paper thin and draped over a bed of plain, unseasoned lettuce. Shockingly uninspired for the $20 price. My wife got the pasta with mixed seafood, and I got the fish of the day, both were flavorless and overpriced. They charged $80 for an 8" roasted red snapper, which for the price I can only assume was flown onto the island via its own private helicopter from wherever red snappers are born, to be hand delivered to its dishonorable and forgettable death, much like the many poor sodomized victims at the hands of Emperor Tiberius elsewhere on the island in the first century AD. In the end I spoke to the owner about the quality of the overpriced meal and after violating my personal space for 20 minutes and trying to defend his restaurant, he discounted our bill by 9 euros, which did not help our disappointment. Literally eat anywhere else except this place.

Bob A.

Yelp
We came to Al Grottino on our first night in Capri and have been back three times this trip! This is our new favorite spot. The food is above excellent and the warm service is even better. The owner Gianfranco always has a smile and is very accommodating. This will quickly become your favorite spot. Walk down Via Longano which originates in the piazzetta and 100 feet later you'll be at Al Grottino. Tell Giancfranco I sent you! Molto Bene!!!

Nick F.

Yelp
Best Restaurant in Capri and one of my favorites in Italy. Friendly owner and staff, excellent service, and amazing food!

R. G.

Yelp
Nice intimate place. Friendly service. The food was very good. Great place to eat to get away from the crowds.

Paul D.

Yelp
Excellent local wine (Irpinia Anglianico by Salvatore Molettieri), and my meal was perfect: Scialatielli fior di zucchine e tartufo estivo. Warm atmosphere and wonderful service.

Cher W.

Yelp
I highly recommend this restaurant. A reservation is a must. We stopped in the day before and asked for 8pm reservation for 4 people - otherwise would not have been able to get a table. We ordered their signature local lobster pasta dish but they ran out of lobster so substituted 4 prawns for us which was better since there were 4 of us. That was a really delicious dish. All the food there was wonderful. The owner is very attentive and clearly takes great pride in his restaurant. I would certainly return if I am in Capri.

James B.

Yelp
Fantastic! Wife and I came here and were so happy we did. The food is absolutely phenomenal and the staff is so kind. The owner really takes pride in his restaurant and we loved every second of our meal. Highly recommend!!
