On the Grid : Karim's, Al Jawahar and Old Jawahar

"Karim's is often featured on conventional Old Delhi to-do lists, but the neighbouring Jawahar Hotel, run by the family who were originally landlords to Karim's, also deserves a mention. Named after India's first Prime Minister who once dined here, back in the 1940s, Al Jawahar, and its sibling Old Jawahar, has a legacy to live up to. While Karim's has always been famous for its kebabs, Al-Jawahar prepares a mean mutton korma. This trio of restaurants is conveniently located in the Matia Mahal area, west of Jama Masjid. Our recommendation is to go carnivorous all the way and mop up those meaty juices with the fresh, hot naans that they churn out all day!" - Delhi Dallying

Al Jawahar @al_jawahar_restaurant_official never disappoints when it comes to authentic Mughlai flavours! Tried their Mutton Nalli Nihari with Khameeri Roti – rich, tender, and bursting with flavour. The Mutton Burra was smoky and perfectly grilled, while the Mutton Seekh Kebab just melted in the mouth. The Mutton Achari Biryani was fragrant, tangy, and full of spices, and the Chicken Changezi was tangy, flavourful, and absolutely delicious. A must-visit in old delhi for anyone who loves real Mughlai food — every dish is a masterpiece!

Al Jawahar is one of my favorite places to eat! Their Chicken Nihari with Khamiri Roti is absolutely the best full of flavor and always satisfying. I usually visit in the morning when it’s a bit less crowded. In the evenings, and especially on Saturdays and Sundays, it gets quite busy. But the food is totally worth the wait. I love visiting this place!

The place is very nice and highly maintained and ambiance is also great for friends and family. The food is AWESOME, I had chicken tikka butter gravy and it was LAZEEZ and held up the old Delhi Prestige. The staff (waiters) have behaviour issues, they seems like not happy when customers are served, their faces are unwelcoming (unbiased) and kills the feel of a good food and environment. The table clearing staff on other hand are good people, they are happy serving you the plates, onion and chutney. Request to owner: Please train your waiters to smile and serve with host attitude. Get your tablet clearing staff new dress.

We went here for a family dinner, and the overall experience was extremely disappointing. The food quality was terrible — the nihari was pathetic, and honestly none of the dishes were worth eating. The prices were way too high for the kind of taste and quality they served. There was also no proper seating arrangement for a group of more than six people, so our family had to sit separately, which ruined the whole dinner vibe. To make it worse, they don’t even have a kids’ menu. Definitely not worth the money or the hype. Wouldn’t recommend this place at all.

I went to Al Jawahar Daryaganj on 5th September, tried chicken biryani, there were two people besides me and two came after me. They had korma etc. anyways coming to the point. Tasteless biryani, thick rice, chicken pieces looked like they were taken from tandoori, tasteless, biryani masala was not even coated on it. There is no fragrance in the rice. The biryani of the shops that are open everywhere in the name of Moradabad biryani is much better than this. I felt that this is a duplicate of Al Jawahar. Completely disappointed 😞☹️😞☹️

We went for dinner and had ordered Chicken Biryani however it was not at all taste like biryani... chicken was just boiled and added to the rice, chicken pieces were not having masala so I guess it was not marrinated and I felt like having lemon rice, since the taste of rice was sour with lack of garam khada masala and I can say that it was a waste of money bcz after giving feedback of the biryani they did charged full and norteven offered other option. Biryani cost was around 520 rupees plz do not waste the money by dining here.... better to have it outside....you can see the photo where we didn't even had a half plate of biryani it was so pathetic

Located in the heart of of Old Delhi, just a stone's throw away from Jama Masjid is this hidden gem of a restaurant. I visited on a small journey break to taste the much reknowned Chicken Changrezi and Khameeri Roti along with a Mutton Seekh Kebab. At the end of the meal, I was filled beyond the brim of belly but the heart still craved some more of the simple yet succulent delicacies.

Pathetic place. Worst service ever. We ordered dal and naan. Naad came 10 mins early and dal came later. Which match stick in it. Then they served the same daal and naan again. Coke was not served at all. Serving spoons or eating spoons with food was not served at all. Waiters were very rude and manager was not apologetic at all. Overall worst experience
