"Michelin Man Matias Perdomo is an Argentinian with a preference for Molecular Gastronomy, influenced by such greats as the Roca Brothers and Ferran Adrià, running a kitchen and a dining room overflowing till late into the night in an unusual part of Milan. Far from the Duomo and the fashion boutiques of Milan's trendier areas, Matias has instead chosen to inhabit a former trattoria along the canals in the Navigli District. So far, he has one Michelin Star that's more than deserved. Could he get more? It isn't likely. Adorably, Matias doesn't play the game that so many chefs do in pursuit of Michelin's good graces. The restroom is out back (as in, next to the deep freeze and where the employees wash their hands), the chairs are uncomfortable, the tables are often shared with fellow patrons you've never met, the kitchen itself might be too small to ever meet the full demand of another star or two. Yet Matias is a Michelin Man. He's creating the kind of food that people will wait any amount of time for, return over and over to enjoy and tell their friends about for weeks, months, maybe even years after. He's friendly, making his rounds through the dining room and resting a hand on the shoulder of a pretty Italian woman in a way that's not unwelcome, smiling with a grin that can't be anything but disarming and generally making friends with any patron who enters his door. Al Pont de Ferr is a place where everyone saves room for dessert and everyone leaves happy."

I recommend for the nice food and service. Be mindful it is a bit pricy (24eur for a risotto). Service is good and wine list is fantastic. We had a bottle of very good wine from the organic white wines (1 full page in the wine list!).

Al Pont de Ferr is in Navigli area, it's a Michelin Guide restaurant. The place is cosy. Love the breads they provide. The dishes are quite good with creativity and fair price, but I expect more. The training of service should be better. I am sure the restaurant could improve much more.

We could not eat much due to our poor appetite. But whatever we tried was excellent. The fish was cooked perfectly. The tiramisu was so special. A definite must visit. The kitchen works silently and effortlessly. Kudos to the team.

Nivigli is a cozy area by the canals in Milan and that's where you find this place. They both have a ala carte and a set menu. We had the thought and taste menu which was really interesting with a lot of new tastes and things I actually never eaten before, like snails and pigeon. We also had the wine package where they combined the food with different wines which was really nice. The food was good and it was fun trying something different

This place is awesome. Go for the good, the wine, Maida and the incredibly nice female waiter, who’s name we did not get. Cuttlefish ink spaghetti with swordfish, polpo, dolce - everything is delicious.

I understand there is creativity, research and incredible knowledge behind the dishes, however, I don't like to eat a tomato which is actually a chocolate dessert and a mozzarella which is an ice-cream. Interesting experience but not for me.

Along side the Navigli, in one of the Milan area most famous, where "la movida" does not end never, there is this Italian franchish restaurant. Elaborates plates as entree, mains and dessert and great wine choices. The lady owner has a incredible food culture and her explanation of each recipe and wine will be part of the happening.

The location is great, beautiful view of the canal, good for people watching. The service is very friendly. The food is terrible, the fish was still frozen in the center and when I returned it the chef said it was perfect. The presentation is interesting and innovative but the flavor is just bland going on not good. Totally not worth it for the price. Don’t waste a meal in Milan at this restaurant.

Yelp
Two words. Molto delizioso!!! This little place is located on the south bank of the Navigli Canal. New Executive Chef Ivan Minali is serving up incredibly unique dishes that will surely have your palate wanting more. The ambience of the restaurant was amorous. We also found the staff to be polite, efficient and very observant without being intrusive. The starters were all excellent, but the stand out dishes for me was the gold foiled, soft-centered egg with caviar and truffle sitting on a pistachio bed. Second favorite was the artichoke with foie gras and roasted egg yolk. The taste was delightful and astonishing! For dessert, I would recommend the "Snow White" Apple with pasta frolla ice-cream. It's made with an apple-shaped crispy candy shell with apple mousse inside. Reservations for this Michelin star restaurant can be hard to come by, but you may get lucky like we did. During the hot summer nights, take a seat outdoor and enjoy the Milanese movida while having dinner. Of all the offerings in the canal district, this sits at the top of the heap for creativity and fine dining. Every dish was crafted with fresh ingredients, presented with high style and flair you would expect only in Milan.

Yelp
This was our fancy dinner during our Milan trip and including a couple birthdays as well. Reserving a table was an easy call to the restaurant the week prior and on the day of we had some horrific issues with taxis and ended up running quite late but they were so accommodating when we called to let them know and we're so glad they had table for us when we finally arrived. The owner Maida Mercuri is the first person you see upon walking in, she's gorgeous and has a ready smile. The feel here is so homey. The food is upscale but it's not the vibe you get at all. It's comfortable and has a nice ecclectic mix of people from locals to visitors alike and couples on dates alongside groups of friends. You have those dressed to the nines and those dining in their jeans. Either way this was definitely worth saving as our special dinner for our short stay in Milan. I love the fact that not everyone at the table needs to do a tasting menu, the fact they have a number of different tasting menus and some really interesting (as in i was so very curious to try them) a la carte offerings. There was 5 of us and 3 opted to try tasting menus and the others the a la carte. I really wish I had taken a photo of their menu as it changes so often...Especially as i couldnt recall the name of each plate as there were so many!! so sad... Amuse bouche we started off with were prosecco filled balls from heaven...really could have eaten several dozens of these (favorite by far of my entire trip!). Loved them. Served chilled in a bowl of ice...just sooo amazing. The other was a pork with yogurt sauce which was also tasty and the yogurt was refreshing. As we had a gluten allergic bday girl, her amuse bouche was a GF parmesan and avocado crisp. Their bread board was impressive. All made in-house and fresh. Seriously wish we could have just shipped it all home. Mini croissants were slightly sweet and crisp...sooo good. The large ones had cumin and were savory. Breadsticks and different kinds of breads...There was just so many choices! *Spaghettoni: there were two options and I'm not fully sure which was selected but our friend was very happy. This takes extra time and says so on the menu. It looked like a very large spaghetti pasta and was very fresh. * Tradition tasting menu: *The candied version of red onion from Tropea: This was gorgeously presented and the taste was so fresh and creamy. That tart and creamy goat cheese with the candied onion after you break into the shiny candy shell...this looked like blown glass artwork. Loved it! *Beef sashimi: Also beautifully presented and soo good! *Ravioli: pretty little pillows of goodness *Pluma of Iberian pork: juicy, tender and just the right amount of smoky sear. Artfully plated. *Chocolate cigar, a scent of Montecristo and rhum ice cream: such an interesting dessert!!! Not a fan of the montecristo cigar smoke but what an idea!!! small glass was filled w. cigar smoke for you to have a feel as if you were smoking a cigar! The cigar was a chocolate and served in a clear ashtray. water tasting menu: *Langoustine: artfully plated and very fresh. *Sausage stuffed sardines: This was definitely different and fresh. Small fresh sardines stuffed with sausage. *Tuna slider: the bun was made with pasta...This was very interesting, tasty and quite messy to eat as i was instructed to do so with my hands. *Squid with beet reduction and fried onions: very fresh squid, very tender and loved the beet reduction. *White fish or monkfish? Loved their presentation but this was my least favorite...the fish was very chewy and ate like a steak...sliced like one as well...somewhat gristly. *Octopus and potatoes: this was such a cool dessert for me as it looked just like octopus and potatoes...the octopus was fruit molded to look like octopus and filled with fresh whipped cream to look like the white flesh when you cut into it. The "potatoes" were poached pears. Creative AND delicious! The other really fun dessert was "this is not a game": a kaleidoscope of childhood flavors. This came out on a lit LED platform (very bright) and it was legos!!! Fruit leather molded into the lego base platforms with chocolate lego figures. Very cool!!! I wish we had known to order the apple tart dessert but alas...we did not. Hours later and all very full...we happily wandered out to wait for our taxis, which Ms Mercuri was kind enough to call for us whilst one of us kept eating the delicious jelly beans at her counter. Lovely dinner, lovely evening.

Yelp
A lovely restaurant by the canal. Staff is very knowledgeable about the menu they are serving, and took time to find the right wine for me. My requests for a minor adjustment were made, thank you. Not only was the meal delicious, it was also beautifully presented. The appetizers were wonderful, a stuffed olive was just too yummy! I had the sea bass, just had them skip the fish tartar. The bread served was equally delicious. All in, this was a wonderful experience, and I highly recommend.

Yelp
Inbetween all of the food pushed under our noses during aperitivo we were also keen to try some cutting edge Milan cuisine! Having review a number of blogs and websites a name that came up repeatedly was Al Pont de Ferr. Located along a canal this quaint spot is was unassuming from the outside - with the exception of the window that looks on into the industrious kitchen. Having spent the morning exploring the Pinotecca de Brera we arrived slightly later than intended just after 2pm, as such sadly we weren't able to have the full tasting menu. No matter. For the lunchtime diner they also have a menu offering 2 plates for €20, so we decided to order 4 and share. My chum is gluten free something which posed a challenge at times in Milan, not here - not only did the waiter ask if we had intolerances prior to ordering he then appeared with a GF bread basket for her (cue a very excited girl when she got to have a breadstick for the first time in 15 or so years) To our order: - Mozzarella with candied fig and tomatoes - Fillet of rabbit - Tasting of asparagus with fondue and hens egg yolk - Filet of cod with risotto! Words don't really do this justice. Just look at the pictured and enjoy - it was a really incredible meal. The wow-factor didn't stop there. Having seen other diners enjoy deserts best described as art we were ready to the same. But... oh oh....the raspberry paradise key element is gluten based....sad face! she offered a tasting of the sorbets and she decided to still have the matched wine with it. What they came to us was a surprise. Almost the same dish presented beautifully with extra od the gluten free elements...including an amazing raspberry meringue, a sugar glass raspberry with liquid centre and the stunning sorbet! WOW!!! The desert mine matched was as good as a match as I have ever had, the balance was spot on. The lovely manageress offered us an additional glass on the house of another desert wine! Again it was just perfect! For our last meal in Milan we couldn't have asked for anything more! This was a first class dining experience from start to finish!!

Everything was perfect especially the risotto. The service included! We made a reservation and we arrived half and hour late. The were still waiting for us. It s a must.

Yelp
This place was impressive. A Michelin-restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere, excellent service, brilliant food, and affordable prices. By affordable prices, I mean affordable by international Michelin-standards. Dinner and wine will cost you from 50-75 € per person depending on which menu and wine you choose, which in my opinion is worth every cent. The dishes are interesting, as it feels you are part of a scientific experience when you eat there. Some of the courses were classic, however there are several courses you will have no idea what you are eating. In true Heston Blumenthal-style, they create culinary artworks which you will not understand until you dig in. An experience well worth your while when in Milan.

Yelp
This place was just OK. It is in the very young and hipsterish canal area, and I think I am outside that age group by a generation. I really did not enjoy climbing over and around groups of 20-somethings drinking like fish and smoking like chimneys. Al Pont de Ferr is a pretty little restaurant nestled within this rather unappealing area. Service is indifferent but not to the point of impoliteness. The menu is written in the chef's somewhat pretentious attempt at doing something different and humorous, but not successfully. I started with a beautiful composed plate of raw fish, foie gras, hazelnuts and pink grapefruit (described on the menu as "Il mosaico di ricciola cruda, foie-gras e quadretti di pompelmo ed arance"). It was lovely to look at, and fresh enough, but nothing inspired. My dining companion had the sardines in a sweet-and-sour onion sauce, which she pronounced to be tasty. I had the "36-hour" lamb, which was quite delicious and was served with a potato puree that seemed to have a 2:1 butter-to-potato ratio. I don't remember the other main course. We did not stay for dessert. It was just OK - would not go back again.

Yelp
I came with a big group and everyone's meals were fantastic -- every dish was incredible. They have bone marrow topped with uni, which is basically my dream dish.

Yelp
Had the Madness degustation menu. Unfortunately the predominantly raw menu did not go down well with us. Many of the dishes were also quite salty. And the food was quite poorly presented. Not quite sure how the one star got there.

Yelp
Go. Just go. It's homey enough for you to feel completely at ease in, whatever attire you're sporting - yet elevated enough to have you comfortably settled in after enjoying a performance at La Scala. At my seating we shared the restaurant with politicians, businessmen and women, families with kids, couples (young and old), friends and foodies alike. All summoned by the impeccable reputation, and sure to be returning after an exquisite experience. Inspired, creative, delicious, and stunningly presented, you'll end up elbowing each other to sample one another's dishes. Tastes celebrate the city of Milan, and traditionalists as well as modernists will have an unforgettable evening. Wine pairings are flawless, needless to say. If you live in any European city, this restaurant is worth a visit to Milan alone.

Yelp
This place is terribly bad and they shouldn' t even earn the michellin star. How can you serve me the food with hair !! And you just took it away pretending nothing is happen. I don't take beef and i told you already but you still serve beef appetiser to me and telling me. " You don't eat that.. it's beef, i won't take it away but just let you know. It is beef. " i couldnt believe that this can be called a restaurant with this kind of service. The food is awful and service is disaster. Good luck for whoever going to this place. I rather keep my money to eat cup noodle. It's tastes way much better than food from here.

Yelp
My wife and I dined here on or first night in Italy, and it was amazing. At first, we thought it could just be the fact that we are on vacation in Italy that the meal was so good, but as we continued our journey through the country we kept talking about this wonderful meal. I had the middle tier tasting menu and it was delicious. Plenty of food. Service and ambiance is great, with a great location on the canal in The Navigli.

Terry P.

Yelp
Great location on the canal. Nice ambiance inside (although loud once it fills up with diners). Food disappointing. If you are expected great Italian this probably isn't the place. Four of us had the 5 course fixed menu. Unfortunately none of the courses stood out as very memorable and two of them were well below average: dessert seemed store-bought and the red peppers & anchovies were terrible-the anchovies were obviously not fresh (not even close). Overall we were disappointed.

Yelp
This was hands down the best meal we had in Italy. Expect modern reinterpretations of Northern Italian fair. I went with three companions and we all tried tasting menus with half the table doing the 'Our Tradition' and the other half of the table doing 'Taste and Thought.' Our meal was as delicious as it was beautiful. I also couldn't believe how much food it was. Between the amuse bouches, the generous bread basket, and the tasting menu itself I found myself (sadly) leaving a bit on my plate at each course. I was grateful though that it was enough for my boyfriend and I to each try bites of the other's tasting menu. Of everything I ate the amuse bouche, Gazpacho and red prawns from Mazara del Vallo (which in no way does the beautiful dish justice), and Pigeon, lentil sprouts, cream mustard were my favorite. I also really, really enjoyed the Ravioli stuffed with marrow on slice of scallops, coffee sauce and pink pepper extract from my boyfriend's tasting menu as well. With that dish the burst of liquid when you bit into each ravioli was a savory bomb of deliciousness. I also thought the service was very good. The waiter did a great job of helping us navigate the menu and wine selections and was also kind enough to bring me bug spray without my even asking (guess my scratching is not as discrete as I thought.) Ambiance wise the restaurant is very interesting. Unlike a lot of modern restaurants in America where the look of the restaurant is as cutting edge and orchestrated as the food itself, here there was an interesting contrast of the traditional, non-descript look of the interior and the art of the food. It worked beautifully though. Sitting outside we also enjoyed looking in at the large kitchen window to see dishes being made. We sat along the canal outside which minus the mosquitos (to be fair they were burning the anti-mosquito coils to try to keep the bugs down, but to no avail) made for great people watching both on the sidewalks and the water. The look of the neighborhood is a bit grungy, but in a way that those who have eaten out in up and coming, gentrifying neighborhoods in the US can understand. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone who enjoys creative, modern takes on food. I thought the flavors, ambiance, and service came together beautifully and loved that the art enhanced the food without overworking it.

Yelp
If you're looking for creative north-italian cuisine, good wine, awesome cheese and delightful dessert, this is your place. But if you just want a cheap place for eat something, you should go somewhere else The price are not low, but the quality of the food totally justified them. Also the servings are generous, well presented, and the waitress are really kind (and the owner completely mad, but hilarious). If you go for lunch you can find some dish of the day that will save some of your money (but don't be too hopeful). If you want to go for dinner is better to book a place, cause the space is very nice but also very small!

Yelp
The place is pricey and the service sometimes pretentious, so you might be asking yourself with I am rating this place as 4 stars and the reason is simply one: Cheeses! Pont de Ferr has probably the best cheese selection in Milan. You need to try the "Tavolozza dei formaggi": you can select up to 12 different cheeses according to your tastes (goat, cow, sheep, with herbs, young, aged, creamy, italian, french, suisse, austrian) to be matched by appropriate honey, chutney and jams If you will decide to go there go for a starter or pasta and a cheese selection. After the first couple of bites you will forget the service and the overall setting

L A.

Yelp
Overrated... We went with the tasting menu, and the vegetarian one is NOT to be recommended. I'm pretty sure it have me food poisoning, and everything had the same texture (thick and creamy). The traditional tasting menu seemed a bit more varied, but the meal took almost 3 hours and the servers seemed to get confused about what to bring next. Way too expensive, and way too disappointing.

Andrew H.

Yelp
Unique fun flavors beautifully presented! A memorable dining experience for our family in Milan!

Yelp
I ate here 9/12/12 and it was the most amazing meal of my life. I had the tasting menu and felt like I was a guest judge on Iron Chef... First course was "red onion" ... hardened sugar shell in the shape of a bright red "onion", inside was caramellized onions combined with a mild liquid cheese... all hidden in the candy shell... it was on a bed of nero bread... like crushed black bread crumbs... When you cracked open the shell all the middle goodness combined with the bread for the perfect consistency... and taste. Unbelievable... Next was a beef tartare that was encased in thinly sliced zucchini (or the like)... the zuchinni was blacked on one side and then the beef tartare was rolled inside like a little log. Finished with a mellow green cream sauce that was poured over it at the table. the 3rd dish was a deconstructed take on classic Lasagne ... light noodles with a creamy cheese blend and oil and just a touch of tomato sauce. A blend of meat for the marble sized meatballs (the waiter, who would come out to the table and describe each dish told me the blend, but I don't remember)... and then the dish was sprinkled with parmigiana. Then the Veal fillet, a perfectly cooked slice of veal that was just lightly breaded on top... almost no breading, but just for texture... slightly pink throughout... it was served with a purple vegetable and salty olive paste... perfect! Then the wind on the canal picked up and the staff had to hurry to bring in the umbrellas before the storm. I had a chance to talk to the chef while they seated everyone inside the restaurant (I had been eating outside by the canal)... I told the chef how great the meal was and he said that he would like me to try a pork that is a specific breed that only eats the pinenuts (or some such thing... his english wasn't great and my italian is terrible)... Once seated inside the waiter asked if I wanted to try the pork or desert, and I said let's have the pork! It was the best dish of them all... 4 slices of sweet pork... so tender and juicy... crispy on the outside and soft and delicious... from only the neck they told me... I passed on desert as sweets aren't my thing... but it was the most amazing meal I have ever had! Go to this restaurant and order the tasting menu!
