The Best Things to Do in Venice, Italy’s Haven for Art and Architecture Fans | Condé Nast Traveler

"Tucked in Dorsoduro, this is the local go-to for pizza, but the real revelation can be the paccheri tossed with Sicilian pistachio cream, pan-fried prawns, and peppery achiote when it's on the menu." - Jenn Rice

Google
Fantastic food and service. Lots of available seating as well. The beef tartare was one of the best and the variety in both pizza and pasta was great. Ingredients are clearly fresh and the food was superb. Drinks were great as well and a good selection of wine.

Food was amazing. The 4 cheese pizza had a blend of cheeses that just couldn't be stopped. The pizza rolls we also pretty good. Could have used a little more acidity to balance out the cheesiness and bread. I say this as someone who didnt think there was a thing as almost too much cheese. My only issue is we showed up without a reservation and we were told they were full for the night almost immediately. They never even checked with head of house. Yes 2 minutes later we reserved a spot online and we're seated in 20 minutes. Had this place not been highly recommended by locals we probably wouldn't have gotten a chance to experience the food.

Mussels were delicious. Eggplant taste was a bit flat , believe it could of been slightly better. Pizza with spicy pepperoni was Superb. Overall, it was a nice experience and strongly recommend this restaurant.

Google
This place really felt like it was a restaurant where the locals eat. We had a fabulous meal and didn’t spot many of the classic tourist dishes on their menu. Everything we had was excellent. Well recommended.

Google
The service for a Venice restaurant is excellent. The food is good; no frills but good ingredients and an excellent selection for a pescatarian. I really enjoyed the burratta ravioli and the tuna tartare was okay (a bit dry but still very good) The tiramisu was excellent. Served by a couple of different people but very kind and really lovely.

Google
The food was excellent, so we returned to this place! The service was considerably better when we had a reservation. Without a reservation we were seated inside and the service was below average.

Google
I personally love tartar and this one was one of the best I ever had. The combination of Apulian Stacciatella and meat was just wonderful. The atmosphere was really lovely and the staff were really welcoming and nice. I loved it.

Google
Best Restaurant in Venice for us. Had a reservation for lunch time. Chose crispy Octopus and pizza Intrigante . Friendly staff, great fresh food quickly served. Family friendly.

Yelp
I came in with a few colleagues. I definitely recommend making a reservation. We sat outside and it was such a great atmosphere. If you didn't know that there was an outside seating area, you would totally miss it. It is located down a walkway beside the restaurant. The employees were all very friendly and they spoke great English. It truly felt like they all worked together to provide an amazing experience. There was also an English menu. Much appreciated. I ordered the fried mozzarella ball in homemade tomato sauce. It was yummy. I am a lover of caprese salads and this was a unique twist. There are several pages of different pizzas so I decided that just be the way to go. Oh my goodness. Such a great decision. I ordered a pizza with ham, Gorgonzola cheese and fresh mushrooms. So delicious. The sauce had great flavor and the Gorgonzola gave it a nice flavor. I would so recommend this place. I will be craving it and look forward to returning soon.

Yelp
Our first time to this restaurant. We came upon it as we just got into town. They were fully booked but we made a reservation for the next evening. I'm so glad we did. It is a typical quaint place but we absolutely loved the vibe. It was very busy and we soon found out why. First the waiter Alessandro was very friendly. He made some great suggestions. We ordered a pizza with Giovanna with prosciutto to share as an app. It was fabulous. The pizza was bursting with flavor. The gnocchi in coda was amazing. The meat sauce was perfectly seasoned and complimented the gnocchi

Yelp
Great pizza. Fun atmosphere very casual. Young crowd. Would go back next time I'm in Venice.

Yelp
Amazing! Our new favorite pizza restaurant in Venice! We came in for lunch on the lovely shaded garden back patio on a steamy day, and service was friendly and quick, which was great because we were hungry! Everything looked so good it was hard to decide. And prices were really reasonable, too. Between the 3 of us, we had the Insalata Mista - a large salad w/ greens, shredded carrots, tomatoes, shredded mozzarella, tuna, tasty olives and corn, and a bottle of olive oil and balsamic vinegar to dress it. They have a HUGE selection of pizzas (mostly €7-13). We had the Buffalona with tomato, mozzarella, big chunks of buffalo mozzarella and basil pesto. Everything was incredible - the wood fired crust, the sauce, the fresh toppings. My husband had a couple good German beers (€6 for .4L), and I enjoyed an Aperol spritz and Limoncello spritz- delicious and refreshing, and best price so far - just €4. Really love this special place!

Yelp
Food - incredible! Service - great. Setting - beautiful outdoors. Best meal we have had in Venice. It's a must! It's busy and usually need to book in advance.

Yelp
This was our favorite place in Venice. We loved everhing we got. The carbonara pizza was thin and a good carbonara taste the eggs was a nice touch. The cheeses were so yummy with the bread. The inferno pizza came out like a calzone twisted pizza it was a surprise but a pleasant one. The place is full of locals and really only speak Italian which made it more authentic to us.

Yelp
Very nice meal! We came here right when it opened for dinner and sat in the back patio. The atmosphere is really nice and we enjoyed our meal here. I think the most memorable item was the shrimp wrapped with potato strings. I definitely recommend trying that if you come here.

Yelp
Our first day at Venice was cloudy and rainy so we wanted to stay close to our Airbnb. Luckily, this was across the street and had really good ratings. Our Airbnb host suggested we should stay away from places with pictures on the menu! The place itself is full of locals so this assured us that it must be a good and authentic place! We had no idea what to order, but our waiter was wonderful and recommended us 2 dishes (one a pizza and the other a "rolled pizza" for 11€). The pizza (barababao) had spicy salami, red onions, mozzarella, and a red tomato sauce. The "rolled pizza" had ham, arugula, sun dried tomatoes, fresh cut tomatoes, cheese(mozzarella?), and red tomato sauce. The service is a bit slow, but the food was worth it. Nice to people watch and enjoy a drink and have some pizza!

Yelp
Food was so good but the service was terrible with the exception of the young lady who was clearly doing her work and picking up the slack of everyone else (including our absentee server). One person came to take our drink order within seconds of us sitting down and then disappeared for ten minutes. We had to flag him down to order drinks and then another person came to take our order. Instead of risking losing a server again, we ordered everything at once. Again, server disappeared for far too long for a glass of wine and a sofa. Bread and salad were brought out without plates. My gnocchi came out first and my fiancé's pizza just didn't come. After about 15 minutes, he got up to go check what was happening (our server never came by to check on us, not once during the meal) and I heard "oh yes!" from across the restaurant--clearly forgotten. We then saw the guys in the back scrambling to *start* making his pizza. Apologies were given and they give us a discount for the mix up but honestly, the service was bad even without one of the entrees being forgotten. Great outdoor space and delicious food (gnocchi was one of the best I've ever had!) but sadly service is lacking. *The table next to us literally lit up cigarettes during dinner. Smoking is everywhere here-including restaurants, train platforms, and public places-but they should have a non-smoking policy or have a smoking area. Really gross to have dinner in cigarette smoke.*

Yelp
Delicious, local and neighbor cuisine, clean and excellent customer service! When back to the area it will be an again!

Yelp
We have been visiting Italy for about 2 weeks now. We have been to many different kinds of restaurants and this place thus far has been our favorite spot. The food is so good that we stayed in Venice for 3 nights and all 3 nights we came to have dinner here. We had their pasta, pizza, kangaroo and leg of goat and all of them were just mouth watering. Glen was our waiter and he was so friendly and nice. We will definitely miss this establishment. If I could I would give this place 10 stars.a

Yelp
Went here at night when it was pouring outside. At first they said they were full and we would have to wait, but then Alex came from around the corner and seated us in a covered outside area right away. The night was great from there on out. I started with fried olives stuffed with meat, and had a pumpkin pizza. What made the dining experience so great was Alex's exceptional service. He made us his special sauce at the table which was a mix of liquor, ketchup, mayonnaise, and Anfosso (spicy Olive oil). As he made it he told us it is a simple recipe that many Italians use to make a pink pasta sauce. Ask for this sauce if you come here, it is really good, I ended up dipping everything in it.

Yelp
I always worry about getting stuck in an overpriced tourist trap restaurant in Venice. This place was great. From the street it doesn't look like much. But then you go down the alley and it opens into a beautiful courtyard. There are also tables inside. The courtyard was full as the evening went on. The food was fresh and delicious. It was definitely not touristy. It seemed like most of the people around us were locals or at least knew the place. We enjoyed prosciutto and buffalo mozzarella, fried olives, and the bufalina pizza. Plus the house red wine was decent. Servers were friendly. We were very happy with our choice for dinner!

Yelp
This place has high ratings and I am completely befuddled of the high rating. We went there in Summer 2019. First, the plus: Really good tiramisu. Other dessert was not bad either. The price was quite reasonable. The service was pleasant. The minuses: My spaghetti ragu sauce was so salty that I tried to eat it without the meat sauce. The pasta was quite "al dente" but pasta appeared to be "al dente" in all of Italy. The pizzas were soggy in the center but that could be an Italian thing as we experienced the soggy pizza in numerous places. Also, it was so salty. I would come back for the tiramisu but not for pizza or pasta.

Yelp
Great little unassuming place that seems equally popular with locals and tourists. We stopped in for some pizza for lunch after just arriving on our (fourth) trip to Venice. The outdoor patio/"garden" area is a nice little hideaway from the hectic streets of the city. We started with a small plate of baccala and fish "saor" of the day, then two pizzzas. They have pages of pizza possibilities, but the special pizza of the day was just what I was craving: a seasonal special of pumpkin, blue cheese and sausage. My sweetie had one with smoked cheese, regular mozzarella, mushrooms and tomatoes. Pizzas here are thin-crust, Roman style, and maybe not earth-shattering but very, very good and very satisfying after an 8 hour flight with nothing but airline food! And the bill was reasonable for Venice considering we had a half-liter of wine and two espressos (plus they brought us limoncello shots as well.)

Yelp
We loved Al Profeta!! We stayed in Dorsoduro and stumbled upon this place looking for a dinner spot on our first night. We absolutely loved their house wine on tap, one of my favorite Chardonnays of our whole trip! The pizza was amazing and the staff was very friendly. Our favorite dinner find in Venice! Highly recommend if staying in Dorsoduro!!

Yelp
Amazing pizza. Well priced. Cheap house wines, including prosecco!! We had the speck + Brie Pizza and sides

Yelp
The pizza was wonderful- but it was over an hour for the food to come out. Delightful server. Best pizza in Venice so far.

Yelp
The front of this place looked extremely charming and inviting so we decided to try it. First off, the setup is a bit confusing. The front entrance is locked with a sign saying entrance is to the right. You walk down the right side of the building and there is an open door which didn't look like it was supposed to be an entrance. Because of this we kept walking to the back and to the right behind the building next door was a bunch of outdoor seating. I did not think this was Al Profeta seating since it was behind the next building so we turned around to go inside the first door we saw to make sure. We walk in and see no one but there was lots of indoor seating. A waitress then walks in and looks at us oddly (like she was annoyed) and asked if she could help us. She seats us and asks what we would like to drink and gets my wife's order and leaves before I could tell her what I wanted. When she comes to take our food order my wife orders with no issue and then when she asks me I tell her the Simone pizza. She gives me that dumb annoyed face again and I said once again, the Simone pizza. In a rude tone she asked if I can show her on the menu. It wasn't until I said, "Excuse me, do we have a problem here?" that she became somewhat more polite. The pizza was pretty good, nothing to write home about but good. Overall just not a great experience. Every other restaurant in the area we have been to has been very welcoming so unfortunately this place will always have a negative memory.

Yelp
The food and atmosphere is fantastic. The hubs had the Viennese pizza. He rejectedd gelato afterwards because "did not want to wash the pizza taste out of his mouth." The crust was thin with a slight crunch; and, in our opinion, had the perfect cheese to sauce ratio. There was a 30 minute wait for a table, but it is well worth it. The guys are very personable and nice, however, extremely busy. You may have to ask for the check twice, but we did not mind.

Seth H.

Yelp
I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Great pizza with reasonable prices and friendly staff. We tried several but the inferno was my favorite. Off the beaten path but worth the walk.

Yelp
Perfetto... Excellent pizza, friendly service and a warm welcome. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Our first dinner in Venice (recommended by our Airbnb host nearby) and it was by far the best pizza and salad that we had in the 3 days we spent in Venice. Wish we could have eaten there again before we left for our cruise. This place is a gem!

Yelp
We ordered two pizza here and both were fantastic. The pizza dough is amazing! Toppings were great and fresh. Service was also excellent, the waiter suggested a reasonably priced wine which we loved. Highly recommended for an excellent experience in Venezia.

Don K.

Yelp
Al Profeta was suggested when we checked into La Fenice B&B in Venice. It's a casual and friendly place to eat. Staff speak English and are engaging and friendly. Our waitress the first night remembered us three nights later, and they serve a lot of people. We had pizza (cheese and mushroom) and spinach done in garlic and olive oil. And a litre of the house red; Cabernet which was pretty mellow and nice; I find them acidic and not really to my taste. Food was just lovely; makes us wonder why we eat pizza in Canada. And it's not the wine talking here! Their menu is varied with more varieties of pizza than it was possible to keep track of. They also serve meat and fish dishes, pasta - if you can't find anything (or ten things) to eat here you probably shouldn't go to Italy. Prices were equal to anywhere else with similar offerings. But the flavourful food, ambience and feel-at-home vibe brought us back and would do so again.

Greg N.

Yelp
Great food at a good price, the Pizzeria al Profeta had a wonderful choice of pizzas and pasta dishes. The staff was very friendly and welcoming even though we didn't have a reservation. The wine was perfect, and the atmosphere bustling yet comfortable and relaxing. A real find in an area with plenty of choices.

Richar H.

Yelp
Great service, excellent pizza which my wife and I shared 1 pizza, wine reasonably priced at $7 euro for 1/2 liter. The mascarpone desert was the perfect finish.

Amanda M.

Yelp
Wonderful restaurant! You can't tell from the street, but it has a wonderful outdoor seating area in the back. Beautiful atmosphere and delicious food. The pizza and pasta were both very tasty, and the menu had a large variety to choose from... something for everyone! The service was fantastic, best service we had during our time in Italy.
