Al Salam Camp

After several years, I came back to Ahmed's Al Salam Camp. It is a charming little camp with older individual huts with shared bathrooms and some new rooms with private bathrooms. The atmosphere is very pleasant, it is easy to meet other guests in the courtyard, and Ahmed is the perfect host – friendly, open minded and helpful. And he is a good cook. He makes you feel home away from home. I heard about some difficult times with a challenging long-term guest, but those days are over. Staying at Al Salam Camp is once again highly recommended.

Staying in Ahmed's camp was a pure delight and definetely improved our entire time in Luxor! Although we arrived at 8am already, he provided us with a welcomedrink, a big smile and a room ready to move in. He can organize various things like bycicles, feluccarides, hot air balloon etc. Unlike other egyptians he never bothered us with his offers and just mentioned it once and was always happy to help with any request for the best prices! Whenever we came back from exploring we shared some good talks with him about several topics. His place is a calm oasis in the busy and often annoying area of Luxor. Just a few minutes walk we could relax in the fields or at a natural beach next to the Nile, far away from the shops and other hotels. Still restaurants and supermarkets can be reached quickly. Our private room with own bathroom was perfect for our needs, clean and silent and the prices can't be beaten! For the unlikely situation of coming back to Egypt, we would give him a visit again!

Avoid the scam! I booked this place on Booking.com for the next day and immediately received a message for me to cancel. I said no because I already paid with my credit card and would lose what I paid. They repeatedly told me to cancel and I needed to pay more. I kept asking if the room is available or not and repeating that the price is already set by the guesthouse on Booking. For hours it was a back and forth until I complained to Booking's customer service. The evening of my arrival Booking cancelled my reservation and I had to find a new place while we were on the train. We are 2 women traveling and didn't want to arrive at night with no where to stay or an aggressive guesthouse. This was very stressful. I spent hours of my time figuring out how to complain through Booking's customer service, messaging them back and forth, fighting with the guesthouse manager, and finding another booking just an hour before we arrived at night. Maybe this place was great before but now it is a scam! Do not let them bully you!

Recommend that you avoid this place and in particular, its rude manager/owner. This was an out-of-the-way place in the West Bank, that we chose hoping for chill vibes and an escape from the tourist hassle. It seemed and still seems to have great potential for its location and concept, except that this owner/manager guy is just terrible to deal with. Right out of the gate he was just such a jerk and we all felt unnerved. Our group of 3 arrived and the two specific rooms (or room configurations) we had booked through hostelworld were not available. Immediately the host was verbally aggressive and wanted our travel companion to pay more than his online booking. When we asked for wifi (advertised as free/included), he said we hadnt paid enough. When we decided to leave and go stay elsewhere, he blocked our path, loudly demanding that we cancel our bookings immediately. He boasted repeatedly that he has had 30 years of customers with no negative reviews. Hard to believe! The vibes were so awful we left carrying a bunch of stuff on foot along the dusty road. Not sure what a hostel makes/keeps from online bookings (the deposit/fees) but maybe that's the business model...

Immediately actively unfriendly/hostile host. I arrived with my two friends who booked a room for themselves. I booked in a dorm. The host told me that my room is booked out and I must take the 2-person room and pay more. I said I should pay the 4-person price as I don't need a 2-person room. He then said I can have the room for the original price, but he won't give me the WiFi as punishment. I said that's not unfair, as he was trying to make me pay more for a bed I don't need, after he gave my beds to someone else. My friends and I felt hostility so we said we're leaving. He then tried to physically block our exit telling us to cancel the booking (so we couldn't leave a bad review on Hostelworld). Ps. Our taxi driver asked him when we entered if he could use his bathroom and he said no.

I loved the place. It's perfect tor travelers specially girls. It's location is amazing and suitable for who searches for enjoying nature and the Nile's view. Mr. Ahmed the manager/owner of the camp is such a great hostess helped us while our stay in luxor providing us with best restaurants with best prices, places not to miss visiting and how to deal with locals. Highly recommended for real travelers 👌

Location is good. But the host very unfriendly and rude. After we booked a ballon tour somewhere and not with him we kicked us out of his place. I smoked a lot of weed - what is fine but maybe affected his mind. A putty because the place is ok.

I absolutely recommend the stay!😊 Thanks to Ahmed and his son Zidan who made us feel at home. Their Camp is a little paradise in front of the Nile in a strategic location just a few kilometres from the Valley of the Kings and other attractions. On request you can also have laundry service, bike rental and other services... you can ask the owner for food, advices for experiences to do in your stay and he will help you with everything ... I am very grateful to have found this little place.✨
