Our first night in Venice and we were tired due to a full travel day. Our Airbnb is literally next door to this restaurant. We had some pretty bad food in Rome and Florence (some decent food as well but nothing outstanding) so we were not feeling much like eating out and was considering turkey sandwiches in our Airbnb. I am so glad we went out as this was some of the best food on our long adventure… (40 days) Sicily had some amazing food and this restaurant was as good! We ordered Pesto and lasagna to share and I was really hoping the pesto would be as good as Genoa’s famous pesto. It was just as flavorful and the pasta was cooked perfectly. It was a nice touch that the presentation was so nice. The lasagna was equally as good with so much flavor and plenty of sauce - it was awesome! They started the meal with some warm bread and cute little crunchy breadsticks- my husband loved those so much he asked to bring our leftovers home… he never does that. lol. We also had their caramel cheesecake and a chocolate soufflé to split.. AMAZING… such a wonderful way to end a meal and our first night in Venice. The soufflé was everything you’d want it to be, hot, creamy, soft, and just all good! Our service was wonderful, professional and entertaining even. We had a very good meal in a quaint and cozy restaurant.. thank you !!

Lots of vegetarian options. They even had a bowl of bean soup which was wonderful. The artichoke hearts were lovely and so perfect. It was a perfect place in Venice. We got there early around 6 and we were able to be seated. My son had the gnocchi Gorgonzola and he enjoyed it. The desert topped it off. Friendly service and cute vibe.

We had an excellent meal at Al Vecio Marangon last night. We hadn’t booked but after a short wait the friendly staff found us a table. We sat indoors and the atmosphere was cosy and intimate - it was wonderful. Lots of families, couples and friends enjoying company and excellent food. Having struggled with finding good vegetarian options in Venice the choice here was incredible, I think there were 11 dishes to choose from. The aubergine parmigiana is the best I’ve ever had, the purple gnocchi was rich and sumptuous, the spinach and ricotta cannelloni were light and fluffy - my son had the chocolate and pear torte for dessert which was the perfect end to the night.

Google
Gorgeous, quint little Italian pasta restaurant. I walked around for 45 min until Ifound somewhere with the right atmosphere. Classical piano music playing in the background and delightful service and delicious food. Lasagne did not disappoint.€16, vegetables €8. I ate out last night along the main canal but this surpassed it significantly. My steak last night was very average, and I can cook a nicer steak at home. This lasagne however, was perfect. Exactly as expected of a traditional tasty lasagne. Highly recommend. Seek out this gorgeous little restaurant for a setting perfectly matched to your Venetian experience. The waiter was lovely, not trying too hard, however, showed just the right amount of attention and care. 5 stars.

Google
We had a great meal here when we arrived in Venice! The staff was so friendly and the food was great! Everything we tried was wonderful and we wanted to eat here again, but didn't get the chance.

Google
What a wonderful meal we had at Al Vecio Marangon. They had lost our reservation, but got us seated immediately with a free glass of champagne. Roberto was a wonderful server and we really enjoyed our antipasti course of shrimp, scallops and the burrata before our meal. Our desert and grappa to wrap up the night was wonderful.

Google
Probably the best most authentic dinner experience I’ve had in Venice. The waiters were witty and had a great relationship with the customers. I forget his name but the tall gentleman was great. This was also backed up by the quality of the food!

Google
The loveliest meal for our last evening in Venice. Superb setting and cosy, authentic atmosphere. Staff were fantastic, understanding and provided great recommendations. Food was stunning and beyond all expectations. So fresh and tasty. Definitely recommend the purple gnocchi and mussel pasta. Drinks were great value and overall service made a fantastic, special evening. Recommend to take cash for tips !

Yelp
Cute little spot in the heart of Venice! The inside is small, but there is additional seating outside. We got the squid ink pasta, and scallops. The scallops were a bit chewy and the pasta could have been a bit more flavorful, but overall, we enjoyed it. Would recommend!

Yelp
The lasagna!!! Bolognese. Best I've ever had. Service was good as well. I highly Recommend.

Yelp
We have always wanted to try this place, and finally made a reservation in advance, and we're able to give it a try. We started with the fish appetizer which was really unique and local- loved the shrimp and marinated octopus, my husband loved the cod spread, the anchovies and sardines. We had a glass of the Pinot Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc to start, and the a glass of Lugano (local Venetian white wine) and my husband had the Barbara was excellent. For entrees, my daughter had the pesto tagliatelle, my husband had the lasagne bolognese (amazing; super thin pasta and so flavorful) and I had their fish lasagne, made with their local cod, bocala, in a white sauce - very good, but very rich. Such a lovely meal, friendly service, wonderful atmosphere, generous portions and reasonable prices. One of our new favorite Venice restaurants.

Yelp
This place is so good we went twice. Great atmosphere and even better food. You can tell this is a quality spot, the food is simple and delicious. Loved the tomato and mozzarella, pesto pasta, fish and lasagna. Service is also friendly. Really enjoy this spot.

Yelp
Al Vecio Maragon was recommended by a friend. Wow! Located near the Gallerie dell' Accademia, Al Vechio Maragon had delicious food that we normally do not see in any Italian restaurant in the USA. The enjoyed the Fish Lasagna, Purple Gnocchi and a perfectly prepared plate of grilled vegetables. The house white wine paired perfectly with the Fish Lasagna and the Purple Gnocchi. Al Vechio Maragon charged a song for the amazing food and experience. Service was fast, friendly and efficient.

Yelp
Nice little stop to get out of the bustle. Friendly and prompt service. Caprese and shrimp avocado dish were 8/10, Meatballs, 5/10

Yelp
Charming little spot, away from the touristy areas. Attentive service, super fresh food highly recommend.

Yelp
Take out pasta was better and 1/3 of the price. Would keep walking past this one. We had a party of 6 and we sat in the garden area. I thought I smelled stool as we went to our table. My wife like her meal and she had white sauce. My daughter enjoyed the lasagna. The rest of us had meat sauce and tomato sauce which for the price simply was not worth it. Of the 4 places we had pasta it was our least favorite and most expensive.

Yelp
I honestly don't know how anyone can have a bad word to say about this restaurant! This was our first meal when we arrived in Venice - tired and hungry after our trip by train and ferry. We stumbled upon Al Vecio Marangon, which was near to our hotel, and by the time we left, we were all smiles. We reserved a table for six a few days later and shared a meal here with family who joined us. Service was excellent both times. Burrata appetizer was fresh and delicious. Lasagne Bolognese was simply perfection. I Sodi's lasagne (in NYC), dreams of being this lasagna and does not come close. Even better, the ravioli with baccala. Delicate, flavorful baccala stuffed ravioli with a most intense, oceanic tomato sauce and olives on top. I will have to learn to make it because I can't live without this dish in my life. A stolen bite of my niece's spinach cannelloni was utterly delicious, too. Osso buco was good, but we have had better versions. We sat inside, as well as in the romantic courtyard. Both were atmospheric. The waiter caught me scratching outside and brought me bug spray. That's service! Prices were perfectly reasonable for the quality.

Yelp
Awesome good and great atmosphere makes a memorable night in the heart of Venice. Off the beaten path and incredible Venetian food. What a combo. All the pastas and seconds are fresh. Our party left super happy. They even served us a drink while we were waiting outside.

Yelp
AL VECIO MARANGON IS OUR FAVORITE RESTAURANT IN ALL OF VENICE!!! DO NOT MISS OUT ON THIS GEM! YES I AM WRITING IN CAPS TO GET YOUR ATTENTION! STOP SEARCHING AND GET A RESERVATION NOW! So, as y'all know by now, we love variety. We love trying many new places, rating them and deciding which was our favorite when visiting cities... however, Venice just wasn't that for us (this time - last time was more like our normal). As we were there in September, we noted that EVERY restaurant seriously had nothing but seafood... not sure I saw much of anything else offered in places from the touristy restaurants to the locals... we chose this place because it had the most variety we could find. Needless to say, we ate there every night of our stay in Venice. We learned to love the staff... I'm quite sure they had to re-stock their wine cellar after I was finished with it. The food was absolutely out of this world. I'm a smaller dude and don't eat bigger portions... we'll say I looked like Whinny-the-Pooh after all visits and I don't regret a single bite! Prices fair. Lovely ambiance / restaurant. Amazing staff. Absolutely the definition of the Magic of Venice. We can't WAIT to go back again! P.S. THIS IS A PERSONAL OPINION - unless you are a major fan of seafood, the squid ink pasta was not our jam... this was a very subjective taste preference... neither of us had eaten it before and we opted to substitute it for another meal (we paid for both!!!) Just a heads-up, unless you've had it before and know you love it, you may opt for something different.

Yelp
Came here with two friends. We were seated at a long table in a pretty tight area. Two other parties of two were then seated at the same table. But it was nice because it gave us a chance to meet some new people. The restaurant is pretty small but there is some additional outdoor seating. The place fills up quickly and people wait outside to be seated. We started our meal by sharing a caprese salad. The mozzarella was tender and creamy. Really good. I ordered the gnocchi Gorgonzola. It was really rich and good. My friend had the gnocchi Bolognese and enjoyed it also. They do speak limited English. The server seemed somewhat overwhelmed and wasn't friendly. But she was efficient. It was nice to come to a place that was off the beaten path. I would return.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic service by Jeff Goldblum. My wife loved her zucchini gnocchi dish. Small and intimate place. Had a lovely time!

Yelp
Mediocre at best. Over priced and sad to say, everything seemed day old. Lasagna made a few days ago, not the freshest bread or cookies. Two of us did not each finish our food it wasn't worth eating the lasagnas. Mushy and overcooked. My daughters was ok, no parmigiana was offered for the top. The wine was good though. At least that can't all be bad. Each pasta was about €15, cheese plate of not very good quality cheeses was €11? Total tab was €78 and they charge a €3 sitting fee per person. I would not recommend!

Yelp
All around good food. If you want to get down with fresh warm bread, tasty olive oil, fresh veggies, and a filling authentic pasta dish, this is where you want to go. You can find salad, pasta, meat, and fish. Bread: freshly baked baguette. Enough said Started with the vegetable platter: combination of cooked-hot veggies and room temperature cooked beans. Quite delicious when I added a bit of salt and olive oil. Bean soup: made with pinto beans( or at least that is what it looked and tasted like) I know pinto is not exactly Italian, so I am not sure if I am correct here. Soup comes out piping hot, flavor was amazing. The olive oil really came through which complimented the flavor of the bean. Gnocchi with meat sauce: meat sauce was one of the best I've tried. More meat than sauce which is nice because most places skimp on the meat. Gnocchi was prepared perfectly-I devoured the whole plate. Also topped with freshly Parmesan cheese which you can request.

Yelp
Stopped in for a few beers. Nice quiet spot, shaded from the main walkways with both indoor and outdoor seating. Prices were very good and service was attentive.

Yelp
Best Lasagna ever. Also, the Gnocchi is over the top. Worth the trip. Reservations are recommended but not required. Yummm

Kaline G.

Yelp
Great food, fantastic people watching. Doesn't feel like a tourist trap - more like a family kitchen with a lot going on. We already made our reservation for tomorrow!

Yelp
Very rushed and very impatient waitress. The gnocchi were very heavy but the green zucchini sauce was good. We asked for two more glasses of wine as we were drinking red and she brought us two glasses of white! We ordered water for the table and she brought us a bottle and put it on the table but no water glasses at all. So we asked for a couple of glasses so we could drink the water and she was very short tempered about the fact that we should've asked for the glasses initially otherwise it would've been water to walk away with! What a way to treat somebody that doesn't speak the language. My husband had the pasta with mushrooms, were tasty but there were very few in the pasta and within 10 minutes the pasta sauce dried out. Rude rushed service. The couple next to us sat there for 10 minutes with no one paying attention to them at all although other tables arrived later than they so they got up and left. Need I say more?

Yelp
One of our favorite meals in Venice! Al Vecio Marangon is tucked away from the main streets and tourist sights of Venice so it is easy to pass up this little hidden gem. The restaurant is near the Grand Canal in the Dorsodoro neighborhood. We stumbled by this restaurant in an attempt to escape the rain. I'm so glad we accidentally found this spot! Everything tastes like it is made from scratch and I wouldn't be surprised if the recipes have been passed down from generation to generation because the food was so authenticly delicious. My husband and I ordered a carafe of the house wine to share. (The house wine in Italy is delicious and costs less than a soda. There is no need to pay for the more expensive bottles when the house wine is delicious!) I ordered a plate of proscuitto and melon and my husband ordered an Italian bean soup that was so hearty and delicious. Everything was super fresh and our meal was served with wonderful crusty bread. Our bill was very inexpensive. I wish we found this spot sooner! I highly recommend dining at this spot if you are visiting Venice.

Yelp
Good food. Restaurant is super tight. Not a lot of space. However the food is good and full of flavor. I recommend the bolegnese canoloni. Someone in our party had it and it was hands down the best dish, loaded with flavor. Highly recommend this little gem for a stop in Venice.
google avatar

Melissa G.

Yelp
This is a beautiful hidden little cozy restaurant with an amazing seafood sampler plate! The baccala (salted codfish) was my favorite, paired with white wine. We arrived on a late Wednesday afternoon in October, and were seated right away. Servers were helpful and prompt, overall completing a wonderful afternoon with a quick snack in Dorsoduro.

Yelp
So the rating is an average of the food and the service. I ordered the Cannelloni with spinach stuffing which was delicious and thus gets 4 stars. On the other hand, the service was the most pathetic I've experienced in a long time, so 0 stars, which leads to my 2 star rating. Now let me elaborate on both. The food as I said is one of the most authentic pasta I've had in Venice. The presentation of the food was also quite impressive. If you are a vegetarian, this is a really good option. That said, I still wanted to get out of the restaurant as soon as possible because of the way I was treated. The waitress was as racist and unprofessional as they get. Hardly cared that I existed and was very apathetic to whatever I said. I was quite disappointed because I looked at the other reviews and they all said the staff is accommodating which wasn't true at all in my case. End line - If I'm ever very very hungry and right next to this place , I WILL NOT go in and instead find any other place with better service!

Yelp
One of our favorite places in Venice. Tucked away from the main path but we are so glad we stumbled on it. With all the options available in this city, we ate here 3 times and loved it every time. The food was delicious, fresh and beautifully prepared. Between the four of us we tried a wide variety and everything was delicious. Service was likewise excellent and we loved Daniel and Jessica. They took very good care of us. Highly Recommended! Find Al Vecio Marangon, it is worth the search!

Yelp
Delicious food in a lovely and warm setting. Cafe is small but has a fresh and local menu, Italian wines by the glass were also lovely. Recommend the lasagna bolognese, tiramisu and the Amarone by the glass. Lots of mosquitos outside, so we ate inside which was very charming!
google avatar

Andrea D.

Yelp
The ambiance and staff are welcoming. The place is small but delightful. The food is packed with favor and I must stop by every time I visit VCE
google avatar

Debbie R.

Yelp
If you don't have a reservation expect a wait. The food is worth it though, great pastas and secondi. The panda cotta was delicious. The location is also nice, close to the main path between campos but off the main walk. Outdoor seating is comfortable while inside did appear cramped.
google avatar

Jessica E.

Yelp
Amazing freshly made food. Adorable little restaurant. We even went 2 times during our visit. I wish we spoke italian so I could have spoken more with the lady that seemed to own the place because we loved the food so much.
google avatar

Yelp
After looking back at our trip to Italy. This is probably my favorite restaurant. The place is so fabulously intimate and off the beaten path in a location you'd never find unless you were looking down every road to see what you're missing. The food was fantastic. The lasagna tasted so perfect...I only wish I had much more!!!! You won't go wrong with this romantic restaurant for decent prices.
google avatar

Saeed E.

Yelp
Absolutely beautiful! Don't waste your money on cafes and restaurants in the busy touristy areas! We had a delicious authentic ravioli. The best pasta we had in Italy so far. Next to us a French family was having lunch and their food smelled and looked delicious. They were enjoying as much as we did!
google avatar

Josemon R.

Yelp
This is a great restaurant a three blocks away from the tourist traps. Great homemade food, a limited menu, and friendly but efficient service. Just pick from the suggestions of the day and enjoy some of the best priced wine you have had in Venice.
google avatar

Tim S.

Yelp
Awesome, go there, wait for a table (no reservations given but it turns over pretty quickly for a small place), we went twice, once for our last dinner in Italy just to be sure that we had a good experience that night.
google avatar

Erik M.

Yelp
We loved it so much that we came back again I the same trip. Wonderful house wine at cheap prices. Lasagna with prosciutto and asparagus was good enough for my wife to have twice in three days. Osso buco special was remarkable as was the cheese in the Caprese salad. I would happily eat here every day. Sadly, I didn't get to try the seppie in Nero, but will he next time!
google avatar

Sharon S.

Yelp
Food was excellent, but ask for a liter of wine or end up with 2.5 ounces of wine for a glass. Service was less than friendly.
google avatar

Ernest L.

Yelp
Great restaurant with great food. Their waiters were kind and accommodating for us English speakers. Caprese appetizer was spot on (one of the only places that used actual fresh Mozzarella)! Entrees for great and we got free biscotti at the end, which were delicious as well. After getting the check, we were interested in this cocktail that our neighbors were drinking, so the waiter gave us a glass for free (it's called spritz aperol, really good). Couldn't be more happy with the restaurant, especially since it was our last night in Italy.

Roussie L.

Yelp
Ate here every night if our trip!! I think we ate everything on the menu. Fresh homemade pasta, reasonable wine prices, and the desserts were delicious. Highly recommend!!!
google avatar

K O.

Yelp
This place is perfect. If you want an authentic Venetian meal go to this small hidden treasure. The menu is small, the wine is specific, but the specials that arrive to you handwritten are the gold of this establishment. Trust these fine people, they speak little English but are kind and knowledgable about the food that they take such great care in preparing. Check your smart phones for some Italian phrases to explain your gratitude for the meal that you will receive.

Craig F.

Yelp
We had one of our best meals of the trip at this restaurant. We enjoyed eating outside. It's situated in a great spot. This is one we wrote down for next time!

Tanya A.

Yelp
Amazing! Had our first meal in Venice here. We got in late and it was pouring rain and they took us in at 10:30pm even though they closed at 10. Both the lasagna and squid ink pasta were amazing. The wines were also great!
google avatar

Tim G.

Yelp
This place is a cozy but friendly family run restaurant. Our server was very nice despite our limited Italian. Menu has translations in five languages, I think Italian,English, French, German, maybe Russian? The food is good, obviously lots of fish, but the lasagna with meat sauce is also fantastic. I quite enjoyed the spaghetti with salmon, because the salmon is mixed in, not a slab on top. Sauce was some kind of cheese sauce, but was a good amount, not smothered in cheese. If we had more time in Venice, we would be back.
google avatar

Alex C.

Yelp
First meal in Venice for my wife and I. It's took a lot of twisting alleyways to get there but was well worth it. We got the seafood platter, squid ink pasta, and a liter of the house wine. I found that once in Italy I did not really care for the taglioni pasta. It's too thick for my taste and kind of takes away from everything else. The squid ink pasta luckily was of a thinner pasta and was delicious. Definitely get it. A reoccurring theme for our stay in Italy was the liter of wine. Very reasonably priced and delicious. The owner speaks very little English so I felt like I was at a friends moms home. A bit unnerving but at the same time gives to the experience. Fantastic experience. Would recommend to anyone.
google avatar

Dave S.

Yelp
Looked this up on yelp and it seemed like a great option. Since it doesn't take reservations (according to Yelp) we walked over. There was a line - which seemed to bode well. Put in for a table for 2, and the staff clearly did not speak much English at this very small restaurant. There were two other couples ahead of us - and after a bit of listening, also English speakers. When a group of three Italians asked for a table, they were quickly whisked to an open table outside - skipping the non-Italian speakers. We left in disgust - be warned.
google avatar

Robert S.

Yelp
We couldn't have been happier with this place. Seeing as how this was our first meal in Italy, we ordered an antipasto (piatto di frutti di mare assortiti - one order split 2 ways), a primo (Risotto ai frutti di mare - two person minimum), and a secondo of Branzino with a contorno of artichokes. We wolfed the seafood platter down. Smoked salmon, shrimps, anchovies, squid, langoustines, and some delightful blend of fromage, parsley, and some kind of seafood (forgot to ask what it was before it was inhaled). When the two plates of Rissoto were delivered we knew we were in for a treat; just too much of a treat. Neither one of us could finish either of our plates, and were seriously doubting we could eat another thing. Although our waiter could not speak much English, he indicated to us that he had not placed our final order, and would we like to cancel it. What a pleasant surprise. I was expecting to have to pay for the two courses that we ordered but were unable to eat, but were relieved to be let off the hook. The restaurant was less than 100 meters from the apartment where we were staying, down a tiny side street. We chose the restaurant based on the good reviews and the proximity to our lodgings, but I mapped the location and began walking towards it. GPS said I had arrived, but we could find no sign for a restaurant. Finally I looked at the doors of the shops, and there was the name of the restaurant printed on a sheet of paper from an inkjet printer. It's not on the main drag, nice local folks making great food at reasonable prices (for Venice), and worth the walk.

Eileen P.

Yelp
If you are visiting Venice you have to go to Al Vecio Marangon. It is a very small restaurant and the food is amazing. We arrived around 7pm and got a table right away. By 8pm there were people waiting. The gnocchi was delicious and tiramisu for dessert just made it that much more special. Loved this place. If I were staying longer I would find here again. Prices are very reasonable too!

Lisa S.

Yelp
The restaurant is not where it is on this map, we went looking for it and couldn't find it. Luckily the next day we found it by accident and went in for dinner. The food was delicious! We had a first plate of pasta with seafood followed by the pork ribs served with veggies an polenta. The overall menu was limited but varied enough that there was something for everyone. A bottle of excellent wine completed the meal.

T M.

Yelp
I ate lunch here in October 2014. It was a great low-key meal with excellent, fresh food. The charcuterie plate was fantastic, as were the seafood pastas. They had some very creative dishes that you cannot find everywhere. I also enjoyed the outdoor seating in a quiet side street. I would definitely recommend this place.
