A Truly Unforgettable Sumba Experience! From the moment we arrived at this exquisite boutique hotel in Sumba, we knew we had found something truly special. It's rare to encounter a place where every single member of staff radiates such genuine warmth and friendliness, making you feel instantly at ease. What truly sets this resort apart are the incredible owners, Dan and Jess, and their wonderful family. They welcome every guest not just as a visitor, but as an extension of their own family. Their hospitality is boundless; they simply cannot do enough for you. They go above and beyond to ensure you get the opportunity to experience the authentic heart and soul of Sumba, guiding you to hidden gems and sharing insights that made our trip so much richer. We felt completely at home from the very first minute, immersed in an atmosphere of comfort and genuine care. Every detail, from the personalised attention to the seamless way they facilitate exploring the island, speaks volumes about their dedication. We are already dreaming of our next visit and cannot wait to return to this magical place that feels like a home. Thank you, Dan, Jess, and the whole team for creating something truly special. See you again soon!

A heaven on earth! This place is so amazing! The architecture of the building blends seamlessly with the plants, creating a harmonious sanctuary on the coast of Sumba. The people here are so welcoming, warm, and full of smiles, always ready to help whenever needed. The food is also delicious and natural! The amenities are very complete and natural, and the facilities offered are also quite comprehensive for the size available. The welcome massage was very memorable! I will definitely come back again! Alamayah, keep up the great work and continue to preserve it!

Possibly the best resort I’ve ever stayed at. If you’re heading to Sumba, do yourself a favor and stay here instead of The Sanubari or Nihi. I’ve been to plenty of luxury resorts, but this one just gets it right. No private pools or beachfront villas — but honestly, it has everything you actually need. The focus on sustainability and support for the local Sumbanese community is amazing, and the staff are clearly well looked after. The hospitality feels genuine and grounded. Also the first resort I’ve not seen any mosquito or insect in southeast asia… and that says a lot! Now the best part: the food. Oh. My. God. Easily the best we’ve had at any remote resort. Most places cut corners, but not here. Everything was perfectly seasoned and made with farm-to-table ingredients. Compared to Sanubari (some of the food was really questionable), the difference was wild. And the cocktails? Not overly sweet or artificial — they taste like healthy juices with a little buzz. We were drinking them at 10am, which says a lot because we never drink before noon. lol The vibe is also unreal. Great music, cozy lobby, only six rooms — so it’s peaceful, never crowded. After staying at both Sanubari and Alamayah, we just kept thinking about how good everything tasted and honestly wish we had stayed here the whole time. There are two small downsides which I would like Alamayah to improve upon (but despite these I will still come back here!!): 1) massage - it was neither professional or good, hope this could be improved and 2) the shampoo and conditioners - I know they are supposed to be all natural and stuff but it really can’t clean your hair properly and conditioners do not really condition your hair… Anyway! one last thing to end on an amazing note! The horses here are really taken care of. My horse really smelled like shampoo and it was literally the cleanest horse I’ve encountered!

What can I say that hasn't already been said about Alamayah. This is hands down the best accommodation I have ever stayed in. The staff are the most attentive, genuine and friendly people. The food is incredible. The many nearby waves are epic. The location on the island is perfect. Hoping to get back here as soon as possible! Thanks to Dan and the amazing staff for looking after us so well

We visited Alamayah for four nights. As an introduction to Sumba this place was fantastic. It felt like staying at a family getaway. The staff were so friendly and kind during the stay, sometimes there were more staff to guests. |It’s a small villa resort with, I think, 6 rooms. You can hear music from the lounge area and outside so it’s quite noisy if people are downstairs or playing pool, but this actually makes it feel more like a holiday home than a hotel/resort. We started to relax and unwind. ||The activities offered were great - we did the rice paddy walk on the way, riding the horses and the waterfall trek. Maybe we were unfit but the trek took us just under 2 hours one way and then almost 2 hours home. It was very slippery, with steep steps (507) to start followed by balancing on a water pipe for about 800mtrs and then traversing the mountain. Something you’d need to prepare for with proper shoes and more than just a brisk hike. The ride there and back in the Ute was amazing and we saw some of the best sights along the way including the children waving and yelling at you. I’d actually take this as an activity option next time. ||The food at Alamayah is incredible. So fresh and flavoursome. The breakfasts don’t seem like a lot but we were full everytime. We tried quite a few things on the menu and it was all delicious. ||Having a few aussies around the joint made things easier and we had some great pool table contests before dinner each night. |The final nights bbq feast was good fun and our bartender come singer made the night!! ||My only suggestion would be around the day guests. We had a few visiting during our stay and I wonder what would happen if the villa was full. One couple seemed to have dibs on the best pool lounge during our stay and came two to three times each day. It seems like a bit of a rip off when they are staying at a cheaper accommodation option. Also, this should be adults only. The villa is not designed or forgiving for young children. ||Overall, we had such an amazing time and would recommend Alamayah again, and again and again.

Alamaya Boutique Hotel is an absolute GEM in Sumba. Traveling to Sumba has been a dream for many years and exploring the island with Alamaya was so perfect. From the pickup at the airport to all the amazing activities on the island. The location is perfect, waking up looking out at the surf/waves. The staff at Alamaya is truly amazing. Everyone took such good care of us and made sure all are needs were met. Every morning my friend and I started the day with an icebath, a dip in the pool and a coffee at the poolbar. We went surfing, snorkling, spearfishing, stand up paddle boarding, horse riding, exploring by motorbike and we enjoyed some yoga sessions. I would recommend anyone who's planning a visit to Sumba island to stay with Alamaya.

My Husband, son and I just spent the most amazing week at Alamayah. This was the second time we have stayed, and both experiences have been hard to fault. The staff are all so friendly, warm and willing to help with any request. During our recent visit, we stayed with a group of friends with 5 young kids between us, and the staff went well above and beyond to help entertain and accommodate the kids. The food was great - very fresh and delicious, and the cocktails were also really good. The activities are well planned out and the guides are very knowledgeable. The rooms are also beautiful and comfortable. We stayed in the Mahi suite this time, and Tahik during our previous visit. Both rooms have stunning views. Thank you to all of the staff for making our week at Alamayah so special and memorable! We hope to visit again in the future!

Just spent an amazing week here being spoiled by the amazing staff. We stayed in the Tahik room, just perfect, checked out other rooms and all pretty special. It’s well setup with really nice areas to chill we spent heaps of time down by the pool and in the really nice downstairs spaces. Great to visit a local village close by and meet the locals, some of which work there. So much to do we are keen to go back. Super friendly staff, onto every little detail. Food was great. Fresh as. Really enjoyed this holiday, thanks for having us. Would have put six but only had option of 5 stars!
