Gorgeous theater with amazing architecture. Prices almost feel vintage too 😅 $15 tickets. $5 tickets on Tuesdays. Very friendly staff. Special shout out to John for giving a free history lesson 🫶

I love this theater. Parking is easy and it’s never overcrowded. It has a great nostalgic atmosphere and the seats are recliners, which is awesome.. I had a great experience there recently thanks to the manager named Dakota. I had some movie passes to use and to ensure we got good seats I actually purchased tickets online. Dakota very nicely and quickly gave me a refund for the purchase so I could get the seats I had saved and use my passes. He even gave my kid’s friend who we had brought last minute a free pass. Great customer service and all around great theater.

Google
My wife and I are movie lovers and this is easily the most beautiful movie theater we’ve ever been to, yes including grand lake. Lucky to live so close.

Google
It was 10am when I got to the theater. My matinee was at 11am. It was freezing and windy outside. There was no one outside the doors were locked and finally when someone came to the window they refused to let me in and I had to wait until 10:40am. It’s ridiculous a theater should never open twenty minutes before the show starts. No one cared to show me to my seats and there wasn’t one friendly face. The theater is clean but smells bad like old moth balls and kasha

While parking can suck, and traffic can also be awful, I found it to be very comfy. Seats were comfortable and had a lot of leg room/space.

Google
My favorite theater ever. Beautiful art deco building with all the modern amenities (especially in their smaller theaters upstairs). Bathrooms always immaculate and service is great! All the snacks you’d expect from a chain theater but without actually being a chain theater.

Google
Alameda theater is a real small town experience in the bay. If you can, get seating in theater(screen) one or the "historic" theater its a beautiful room with great atmosphere. We did the cinema grille which was pricey but made our evening! Typical pricing for a cinema but Tuesdays its more affordable.

Google
Such a warm and comforting environment! Seating is amazing and their snacks are just as good. We had trouble with our tickets but they were quick to solve our problems without distress, we didn’t miss a thing for the movie (Lilo and Stitch) . Workers are very friendly

Yelp
Love our beautiful, historic theater. The updated viewing rooms have super comfy reclining seats and tons of leg room. You can order food and wine! Great venue for grownups and kids alike. They have a great summer matinee program for children to support our school. Super affordable 10am matinee every Wednesday during summer break and an awesome deal on a kids combo snack tray: $5 for popcorn, candy, and drink.

Yelp
Husband and I came on a Friday to watch the 3:50pm showing of Lilo & Stitch. When we initially bought our tickets on the website just two days prior, we were the only ones who purchased seats; but on the day of, our showing got pretty full of families, kids and couples. However, everyone was pretty quiet during the showing, no loud talking or interrupting, so that was nice. The concession stand has a variety of food, which we got a small popcorn and coca-cola icee for less than $15. You can even order food ahead and have it delivered to your seat inside the showing - the middle rows have tables, while the back row does not but as extra leg room. The bathrooms are pleasantly clean, and so are the seats. We initially didn't know what to think of the theater, but enjoyed our experience well enough that we see ourselves coming again. The front door doesn't check bags ;) As for parking, you would have to find street parking or a spot in one of the lots around, which could be metered.

Yelp
This is a stylish art deco theater. The seating is comfortable. You buy your tickets at the box office and select your seats when you purchase your tickets. You can order food and cocktails from cinema Grill and they will be brought to you! I look forward to seeing my next movie here soon!

Yelp
Five stars -- and then some. I came for the movie and left feeling like I'd stepped into the coziest corner of town. The theater's warm marquee glow and friendly staff set the tone before the lights even dimmed; inside, the screen was crisp, the sound enveloping but never punchy, and every seat had a clear view (no awkward neck-craning here). Popcorn was perfectly buttered and fresh, concessions moved quickly, and the lobby had that pleasant mix of new-clean and nostalgic charm -- the kind of place where you actually want to linger and talk about the film afterward.

Yelp
Beautiful theater, great staff, reasonably priced, but WORST POPCORN ANYWHERE. I went yesterday (a weekday) after not being there in a while. I forgot how bad the popcorn was at this theater. I was quickly reminded. It was cold and half way through the bag I just put it down. It's too nice of a theater to be serving such sub-par popcorn on any day of the week. Please do better. I should've written this one of the previous times I visited this lovely theater and left disappointed.

Yelp
Nice comfy theater where you can dine in! Ordered Wicked themed drinks before our movie in the Cinema Grill next to the theater, and they allowed us to bring it in a to-go cup as we headed to our showing. We got the glinda and elphaba drink. They have themed foods / drinks depending on the movie, I suggest checking on their instagram @alamedatheatres to see what their specials are before going. Food was delicious and fresh! Enjoyed watching the movie with nice cushiony reclined chairs while sipping on my themed drink!

Yelp
I had a very unpleasant experience, I bought my tickets online, and when we arrived the person scanning the tickets told us that we could not enter until I showed my ID, something that had never happened to us, I went with my partner and he did show his ID, but I did not have one with me and I tried to look for a photo and that person said that they did not accept like photos, it was very strange and uncomfortable.

Yelp
The service wasn't the best but it's historical and massive! The decorations were on point! My daughter loved it!

Russell U.

Yelp
Love the theatre but told no more free parking validations when I went Tuesday! Will have to see what I'll need to do

Yelp
Love love love this theater. It's beautiful! And that's the reason I'm keeping it at 5 stars. I want them to thrive. I have been coming here at least once a week for 15 years. This is a message for the management and owners, if they are listening: You need to work with your staff on customer service!!! Seriously! This has been a problem for far too long! Being friendly, and being aware is not difficult. That is the foundation of customer service. Teach them! Before it's too late.

Yelp
We went as a group to watch the new Beetlejuice movie and bought tickets online for the luxury seats that recline. The movie and theatre experience was great, but I didn't know that you had to preorder all of your food ahead of time to actually enjoy food from the restaurant in the premium seats. I wish it was like the other movie theatre Cinepolis where you pressed a button and the servers came to take your order in real time for any food or beverage options. I don't get why they set it up like this honestly. Big miss

Yelp
Finally checked out this cinema in Alameda! We purchased our Aquaman 2 movie tickets online. No wait to enter. Quick scan and we were on our way. As soon as we entered, the high ceiling was incredible! There were a ton of live size movie characters aligned upstairs near the balcony. Very cool! The line for food and drinks were pretty long, but moved quickly. If you're only getting beer and wine, there's a separate line on the far left. There wasn't a wait, but probably because people didn't know about the line. We didn't like the beer options there so we headed to the attached restaurant/bar to the cinema. There was a door that went straight to the bar.. almost like a secret hallway and door! We ordered popcorn and two beers and they asked if we wanted it now or delivered to our seats. Well, why not! We got our order delivered so we could walk around and stop by the restaurant. Service was great! No wait! Restrooms were clean! We loved our experience! Will definitely go back for our next movie date :) If you're in the Alameda area, you need to check out this cinema. Right in the heart of their downtown.

Yelp
What a community jewel! We love going to the movies in this beautiful historic theater. It is a treat to have great food served to you in the theater. You can stop at the restaurant and buy tickets and order food to be served in the theater. The chicken sandwich is fabulous. We just love the theater and dining experience. Great staff and service.

Yelp
I went to see Wicked at this theater, and the sound was only working from the front speakers, not any of the dozens of side or back speakers. A huge part of any theater experience is Dolby 5:1, and the sound was muffled, low, and one-directional. For a sweeping, epic musical like Wicked, this technical issue should have prompted the management to cancel the showing or move it to a working theater. When I asked the theater's manager about this problem, she rather unpleasantly said there was nothing she could do about it, and then she was kind of rude about refunding my tickets. In this age of home theaters, no movie theater can afford to have bad audio quality AND bad customer service. Yes, the building is charming and historic, but that is not nearly enough to make me go back and try this again.
google avatar

Darlene E.

Yelp
The staff is pretty solid now and I am very happy. The new ticket system where you can scan your code to get your tickets is so convenient. I like that there is still a person there to say hi to you and make sure that everything is good. The concessions stand is always on point and they are always friendly. The theaters are always super clean too. I love spending money here.

Yelp
Came here for the first time for a mom-daughter Friday night movie date to watch Everything Everywhere All At Once after it swept the Oscars and won Best Film in a historic win. I had watched EEAAO twice in theaters previously, in two different theaters, so this was my third time and in a new theater to me. I can't believe I've never seen a movie here before! This is such a beautiful, large historic theater. My friend said his grandpa came here to watch movies when he was young. Wow, this place was built in 1932, and the gorgeous Art Deco architecture gives this building so much charm! I also love the plush seats with kick-up feet rests. The seats are so comfy!

Yelp
I should have reviewed this a long time ago. This is a great theater complex. First off, it is connected through a back hallway to Cinema Grill, where you can order drinks and/or food to take into the theater. The main theater is an art deco movie theater from the 1930s that has been restored. There are 7 other screens as well. The sound system in all of the theaters is great, and most have the really cushy seats that recline with leg rest. The snack bar is well stocked with all the movie treats you would expect, including a red and white wine in case you don't have time to go Cinema Grill. Always a nice time.

Yelp
Wanted to watch The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare somewhere special since watching a Henry Cavill movie is always a special treat for me (rawrr!) so my bff took me here since we'd never visited this theater before. What a cool place. It's an old style movie palacewith high ceilings and art deco and a lot of history. We got to see the current exhibit of Aquaman inspired wardrobe by a local business. They have typical movie fare, plus at certain times they service alcohol, so that is always a cool thing to try. We were there on a Sunday, so parking was free both in the adjoining garage and on street. The seats were comfy reclining type chairs so it was nice to kick our feet up. The only thing missing was gourmet food delivered to our seats like they do at the Parkway, Alamo Drafthouse, or Cinepolis, but I guess they just want to encourage you to eat at their adjacent restaurant? If they fixed it to serve that restaurant's food in the theater then I would have happily plopped down $40 per person to put on the feedbag during the movie. Instead we opted to get hotdogs and a soda at the Pampered Pup a few feet away from the theater for $10 each. Still, a really cool venue and I'll be happy to return.

Oliver T.

Yelp
Bad service, actuallly kind of terrible. Disrespected us and was just rude in general. Made me never want to come back here.

Yelp
Love this place. Everything about it is wonderful. The family and I have been going since it reopened years ago. It's a great time out.

Yelp
Love love this place, my new fav!! I ordered my food at the bar and the staff there was really sweet! There was a bit of a mix up with my order but they were really kind and gave me a free dessert on the side, had a great experience, love the bar (live music as well), will definitely come back! They have reclined seats and are really comfy btw

Yelp
Beautiful movie theater with a very old-school facade and lobby but newly renovated, small theaters. The seats were super comfy and clean. And on Tuesdays movies are only $5 (or $6 if you choose the upgraded seats). What a great deal!
google avatar

Yelp
I just love the old theatre! People are friendly and they upgraded the seating. Alameda is lucky to have this gem.

Yelp
A beautiful delightful surprise in the heart of Alamedia, Ca. A well maintained, extremely clean cinema with welcoming staff. purchased tickets in the luxury chairs and would recommend this.

Yelp
Since Covid we haven't gone out to the movies but maybe 4 times in the last two years and last night was one of them. We were able to reserve and pay for our seats online and pick out where to sit. It was crowded on a Sunday night during the holiday weekend but we were able to find a parking spot across the street at the public parking meter lot and since it was Sunday night, parking was free! You have to go to either of the two kiosks outside in front or stand in line for the box office and I opted for the kiosk to get our physical tickets. Even though I had my UPC scan, you still need to go to the kiosk or box office to get your physical tickets for your seats. Then hubby went to the concession stand (which was crowded) to get popcorn while I went to the seats. I was surprised that the inside of the movie theatre (#4) was completely different from what it was before as they sectioned off the dining seats from the regular seating and the regular seating are all now recliner seats! They are much more comfortable then the old lumpy rocking seats they had before. In fact, they were so comfortable, that hubby fell asleep during a quarter of the movie that he wanted to see! Oh well, he will definitely go back and see the movie again. The seats were comfortable and it seemed like the theatre was full so I wore my mask after eating popcorn but I felt warm because it didn't seem like there was air circulating inside the theatre. I just hope that they turn on the air next time.

Yelp
This is my favorite local Bay Area theater. The inside is a beautifully renovated classic theater so it really feels like a treat to go. The main theater is massive so it's hard to get a bad seat for a premier. Parking is super easy as there is a large parking garage around the corner--parking there is pretty cheap although I know quite a few people who never pay and have never been ticketed. The only reasons this isn't a 5 star review: the website could use a facelift. It's a little dated and not super user-friendly. The process of buying tickets ahead of time could be more streamlined. After you purchase, you are emailed a QR code but will still need printed tickets from the outside kiosk and therefore may end up standing in line regardless to do so. It would be better if you could show your email QR code directly to the usher inside and avoid the lines. Lastly, no big deal but the food is pretty bad. Stick to popcorn and candy because the "nachos" and hot dog will leave you disillusioned, disappointed and wanting more. The theater has a partnership with the restaurant next door where they can deliver food to you in the theater. It's a good option in a pinch although a bit pricey.
google avatar

Sarahbeth M.

Yelp
Parking garage around the counter that isn't too expensive. Restaurants around the corner. Older theater but has a wide selection of movies and decent snacks.
google avatar

Andrea M.

Yelp
This is a nice cinema in a historical building in the heart of downtown Alameda. It underwent a major renovation some years ago, and they've done a nice job of modernizing it and adding new screens while preserving the historical sections of the theatre. The theatre is clean and well-maintained. They have new comfy recliner seats. They have a very decent concession stand. A major bonus is that the theatre is connected to Cinema Grill next door, so you can bring drinks and food from the restaurant to the movie, or have them deliver to your seats! You can also purchase your movie tickets at Cinema Grill if you wish. Definitely recommend catching a flick here; currently, I would recommend 'The Menu', which we have seen twice on the big screen and would see again, it's that good. Enjoy the show!
google avatar

Tara M.

Yelp
I really like coming to movies here. The theater is just beautiful. The seats are comfortable and the snacks are great. I brought my son to a Warriors Watch Party last week and I thought it was just a great idea, a fun way to watch basketball with a bunch of Warriors' Fans. I like that they gave the food delivery option. I haven't tried it yet but will next time.
google avatar

Taisha Y.

Yelp
We recently came here to see Inside Out 2 (go see it if you haven't already) on Friday evening. The kiosks they have outside of the cinema was broken so we had to stay in line to buy tickets. We had also tried online before we drove there, but something was wrong with their system. Getting the tickets took no time at all! No complaints there! We then walked to order our food which was a tad bit confusing because there's also a business next door to the cinema that's open but not affiliated which is located on the right side if you're facing the cinema fyi. I ordered a chicken wrap and some fries, my bf ordered the tatertot steak nachos and a beer. They deliver the food to you which was awesome and overall enjoyed the experience. My only complaint is, I wish the lady selling us the tickets would've asked if we wanted the more premium seats or regular because the seats that were premium reclined, and that's more of the experience that I wanted. Also, as a friendly reminder to the folks who like to snack during movies, can you please chew with your mouth closed? I can hear you lol

Jackson C.

Yelp
When its 5 min till showtime and you have a line behind you, you can be forgiven if you leap at bad seats because the teller's liittle chart is incomprehensible. But reclining seats are nice.

Joel B.

Yelp
Classic feel, comfortable seats, easy nearby parking, clean, downtown location, good film choices.
google avatar

Kay D.

Yelp
We hit the jackpot sitting in the newly renovated theater 6 that has brand new leather recliner seats. For the matinee pricing at $11 morning show, uts the perfect bday weekend. What a delightful surprise. We're pretty big cinema goers, this is by far as close to regal amc Dolby theater recliner seats but u pay half of the price for the local small alameda theater. Don't walk run to watch a new movie in these seats.
google avatar

Yelp
Went to watch Fall Guy with a friend. First time at this theatre. Ground floor is striking alas the staircases are blocked off. I can imagine them using the place for other events. We expected the movie to have the usual 30 minutes of unending commercials like SF theatres have, but it started on time! We were a few minutes late, walked in, and the intro had already began. Perfect timing really. Seats were ok, they adjust back, have been in more comfortable ones (if the back tilted further back a little more, it would have been perfect). But thoroughly enjoyed the movie there.

Aaron L.

Yelp
My wife and I were very excited to attend a movie at this lovely looking theater. But then I got Covid and needed to cancel. First off, they don't even allow you to cancel or modify a ticket purchase without coming all the way to their theater, in person. Trying to be safe, I stayed home to recover and filled out their online form letting them know of the situation. No response. Finally, when I was healthy enough to return, I politely asked if I could have passes for a future show. The manager offered them, but then promptly told me I couldn't use them to purchase a future show through their website. Again, I had to come IN PERSON to do that when they posted their showtime later in the week! Totally worthless. They were happy to take my money through their website, but just couldn't be bothered to handle a change or refund online. What century is this? I appreciate independent theatres and understand the struggle small businesses must go through these days, but not allowing me to even call back later in the week to use my passes was just ridiculous. I will not be patronizing this establishment.

Yelp
Jan 2020- glad to see/feel the air works now and people are coming in and creeping back to normal. I can't wait for Summer 2022..HEARD IMMUNITY !!

Yelp
Fantastic establishment! Clean and great service. Seats are comfy and tons of options nearby for post movie fun. My go-to movie spot!

Yelp
Bring ear plugs!!! Saw Dune part 2 in one of the small theaters behind the cinema Grill. I brought quality ear plugs because of other reviews that stated the sound system is damaging to the ears. My ears are ringing even after wearing the ear plugs. As someone who tested fire alarms for a living, I can tell you the decibels in that theater are damaging to hearing. I can't be sure, but I would guess approaching 110 decibels at peaks. Someone should bring a decibel meter in this theater to verify. It's not cool. Otherwise, comfy seats, strong drinks, and good food, hence the 3 stars. Please protect your hearing, people.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. Our son took us to my first film here ( Oppenheimer). Beautiful Art Deco palace, good sound and film quality. I bought a coke and the folks behind the counter were friendly and nice to interact with. I look forward to my next flick here!

Yelp
Great prices and very comfortable seating. I've been here numerous times where I'm only one at movie.

Yelp
Being the only movie theater in Alameda I wanted this lace to be amazing and in some ways it is and in others it has big room to grow. I live that they keep the vintage theater running but they have a bad speaker in it that crackles during every movie. The have a big cineplex with several theaters and do play all the current big movies. Wished they played more vintage or old school stuff. I have used their double bubble theater rental three times to do private movie showings with my friends. It's about $400 for 12 people and includes food but not drinks or tip. Decent deal. Do this deal on weekend La early and it includes brunch which was way better. They host $5 movies all day on Tuesdays which is a good prices. Costs you more if you buy tickets on their website in advance so save some bucks and buy it at the door if you aren't picky about your seat. Biggest concern is their out of date and racist branding they use for their concessions. They run an ad before their movies with movie food come to life. The nacho chip has a sombrero and is portrayed as a bandit type character. This is not ok. This branding is also on their concession stand and thought to the theater. I can tell it's something they bought back in 2000 and never changed but it needs to. In addition their cafe has tons of movie images on their walls but they all cater to the white patrons with no movies with people of color leads. Overall needs some new management and programming people to fix these blaring issues.

Penny B.

Yelp
Friendly staff. Usually not a long wait for tickets or snacks. Trust them to accommodate all people. Disabled or not. Popcorn is delicious.

Yelp
Love this place! The theatre is always clean, the reclining chairs are so comfy, the added connection with the restaurant down stairs is a nice bonus for a night out with the kiddos. You don't have to cook, but also don't have to settle for popcorn & a hot dog thanks to the fine in option. Whenever we we go to the movies we always check the Alameda theatre first for showtimes. Two thumbs up & I am so glad they are still in business this side of the pandemic.

Gisel P.

Yelp
Theater is beautiful and the seating is great as well. Love how they hand physical tickets and stay true to the atmosphere of the theater. Very welcoming and snacks are always great. Most of the employees are very kind and great at communicating! However, there always has to be one rotten egg. Previously, I saw an employee hand out straws from the dispenser by lifting the cover up. It was wrong of me to assume the dispenser was still broken or low on straws, but the way in which this one employee exclaimed "Nonononononono" 9 times was very patronizing and unnecessary. He said "I'll show you" and then did so which I thanked him for which he replied with looking me up and down and giving me a "mhm." I didn't say anything more becauseI understand I was in the wrong and he may also have some situation/condition going on with him as a person. This isn't the first time I've received dry and dismissive attitude from this one specific employee. Last time I shook it off as him possibly having a rough day or hating his job but he consistently carries this arrogant and dry attitude. Idk what the issue is. Besides that, love everything about this theater!

Yelp
So I have to say I love the concept of this place...you can eat and catch a movie. The Grill that is next door is convenient...and has lots to offer. You can eat at the grill and get you movie tickets, order your food for delivery to your seat! AND it was Discount Tuesday and our tickets were $5.50! Love it! So this review is for both restaurant and the theatre...and despite what I am going to write I will be back for another try at this. We arrived an hour before the show...and we wanted to grab food...we knew what the menu was because we Yelped prior to arriving...and so pretty much knew what we wanted to order. So we get there, buy our tickets at the box office and proceed to The Grill. We ordered the blue crab taquitos, my friend ordered the Taco Tuesday special and wings...I ordered the veggie burger. Now the taquitos were quite "fishy"...YUCK! And the veggie burger...looked like an "impossible burger" and the texture was really weird...so I couldn't eat it. They were gracious and took them both off the bill...and so next time I will just try something else. My friend's food was fine...so it wasn't a complete waste. I loved how beautiful the theatre is...and will definitely be back to enjoy it. I loved that they have one row of reserved seating. Funny part is we reserved seats, went to our seats after eating and there was this woman sitting in seat 7...we had 8 and 9. I guess we were a little too close for her and she asked me if I actually had reserved the seats and I said yes. So her and her friend got up and left...so obviously people do sit in the reserved row that didn't reserve the seats. And I saw a couple who obviously had reserved the seats, but chose to sit somewhere else because there were people in their seats! So I guess they didn't want the confrontation. If I reserve the seat, I am sitting in it, trust and believe! Anyhow, over all this was a great experience, despite the food! And I will come back again...for sure!

Yelp
Love this theatre and the vintage feel to it! Love the ambiance and simplicity of this theatre! We come from out of town to watch movies here! Great service as well!

Yelp
My fiance and I like watching movies here on $5 Tuesdays. You can purchase drinks at the bar and bring them into the theater. We also like that this theater doesn't upsell their popcorn + cheese dip. The theaters are all very nice but one of the real treats is when you catch a film that's being screened in their main theater on the first floor - it's worth paying extra for the recliners! One thing I think is very special about this theater is the nostalgic feeling I get when I walk out of the theater at night - the neighborhood is quiet and the neon lights illuminate the area like you're in a movie yourself.
google avatar

Pat C.

Yelp
Love this movie theater. We live locally so we walk however if you are driving there is ample dedicated parking. The attached restaurant is always popular and lively. On Tuesday it is $5 for anyone and everyone. The sitting is super comfortable and each showing room is kept clean.

Yelp
It is a nice movie theater, but the nachos I purchased were stale. Expure from 10/10/23, but I purchased 11/17/23. I went to ask for a replacement and they were all expired. I asked for popcorn and was given 2 small trays of popcorn. I was told the reason for small trays is that it affets inventory. Not very happy about the circumstances given it doesn't match the value of what I spent. Would I recommend the facilities, yes. Would I look forward to purchasing snacks, probably not.
