The open courtyard adds to the beauty and allows visitors to sit peacefully and admire the architecture. The masjid is clean, well-maintained, and properly managed. The prayer area is spacious, allowing many people to offer prayers comfortably, especially during Friday prayers and special religious occasions. There is a strong sense of unity and brotherhood among visitors, which makes the experience even more meaningful. Another wonderful aspect of Alamgir Masjid Dharhara is that it welcomes everyone with respect. Not only Muslims but non-Muslim visitors are also welcome to visit and experience the historical beauty and peaceful atmosphere of the mosque, as long as they maintain respect for the sacred place. It's an ancient mosque built by Aurangzeb, after he captured Varanasi. The terrace comes with an excellent view of the ghats of Varanasi. The entry is free, but the caretakers will ask for a small donation from the guest before entering which goes straight into the donation box. The caretakers were very friendly & humble people who eagerly answered my queries and gave me a brief historic explanation about this heritage site upon asking. Do visit this place if you like history.

Alamgir Mosque, also known as Aurangzeb’s Mosque, is a 17th-century mosque on the Panchganga Ghat in Varanasi. Alamgir was the honorific title given to Aurangzeb after he became the emperor of India, which explains the name of the mosque. The mosque can be visited any day of the year. The interior of the mosque is relatively plain, featuring simple geometric and floral designs painted on the ceiling. The caretaker is a helpful person, ready to open the mosque for visitors and show them around.

The mosque can be reached by boat from any ghat of Varanasi and of course by walking. Panchganga ghat is the nearest of this historic building. It is situated just beside the revered sri Bindu Madhav temple. It is mostly a quiet place where we received a warm welcome from the caretaker. Lovely view from top.

Located near the Panchaganga Ghat. This 350+ year old mosque is rustic and beautiful. The caretaker was very friendly. I’m glad that ladies are allowed to pray inside. However, the front doors were locked when we got there and fortunately a couple of locals helped us to get the gatekeeper’s attention to get inside.

17th Century masjid situated on the bank of Ganges with a calm atmosphere. 5 km from Varanasi Junction, 1 km from Manikarnika ghat. But very hard to navigate through the street of Varanasi. Combination of Google Map and Local People must. Have staircase to Ganges. Silent environment, lot of breezes and pigeons. Capacity of around 1000 people at a time but only few people present regular prayers other than Jumma Day.
