This was my first time at an Alamo Drafthouse. I’ve been to several other dine-in theaters around the state, and sadly this one was easily the worst experience I’ve had.
We got there the moment the theater opened and placed our entire order through the app before the movie began. The screen felt surprisingly small for the size of the auditorium, with wide black borders all around it that made the picture look more like a giant home television than a cinema screen. The lights under the tables stayed on the whole time (not blinding, but bright enough to be noticeably distracting), and there was no option to dim or turn them off.
Service was consistently off. Our coke and water arrived at the seats next to us (just one seat over), so we swapped with the neighbors. The food came 30–45 minutes into the film and, once again, landed one seat off in both directions, which meant more passing plates back and forth during the movie. My royal with cheese burger was barely cooked through (still pink and cool in the middle) and the bacon was rubbery and underdone, though the fries were good. Another person in our group liked their classic double burger just fine, but the fried-egg burger was a disaster: the egg was so undercooked it slid right off on the first bite, dumping runny yolk all over her new coat, sweater, and pants. The stains came out after washing, thankfully, but it was still a mess in the moment.
The one bright spot was the popcorn, which was tasty and showed up quickly. My specialty drink kahlua twister, however, never arrived. The shake machine was apparently broken, but no one mentioned it, offered a replacement, or even apologized at any time. I only found out after the credits when I asked; they just took it off the bill and said the order “shouldn’t have gone through.”
Between the undersized screen, the distracting table lights, the repeated one-seat-off deliveries, the undercooked food, and the total lack of communication about the missing drink, the whole night felt chaotic and poorly run. I was excited to finally try Alamo Drafthouse, but this location fell so far short of every other dine-in theater I’ve visited that I left frustrated and disappointed.
