The Japanese pine bar that is sanded every day is a nice place to sit.
The short ribs are generally very good especially with a side of plain rice. Other than that, every dish on the menu has been inconsistent.
if you bother to eat here stick to a few items and do not attempt a tasting menu. a regular told me that on one of my first visits and was right. I should have listened.
service was brutally slow on our last visit ... over two hours for a three course tasting menu and even after a wait like that the main dishes came out cold. one plate of spicy tuna roll took over an hour and was so spicy anything could have replaced the tuna and it would not have tasted any different.
seems to be typical for wailea/ kihei restaurants these days.

Arrived at the grand Wailea and was immediately pointed to the restaurant. We were met by a very pleasant young lady who showed us to our table and proceeded to give us our menus. Since this was our first time at Amasia she suggested a few dishes that we would like.We ended up ordering 9 dishes like bao buns stuffed with duck meat,Korean spare ribs,Pot Stickers, mixed salad which was ample for the three of us.I would have no hesitation in recommending the restaurant to any of my closest friends. I intend to go back again for my birthday in June.

We were so happy to discover Alan Wong's resto on Maui (in 2012), after having enjoyed his flagship resto in Honolulu several times!! Here you'll find the inventive presentation and peer-less Asian fusion cuisine that you expect from the lauded chef. (The melt-in-your-mouth "Coconut" for dessert!!!) Combine this dining experience with the heavenly spa and grounds of the Waldorf-Astoria... a MUST-DO Maui experience.

Alan Wong does some amazing things. The restaurant is absolutely stunning and it is worthy of the space formerly occupied by Kincha. Oh, and let me tell you about the urinals! They were made by Toto, the Japanese company, and are a bit like barrels as they are roughly cylindrical and rest on the ground. They do not splash back one bit!
Anyway, back to the restaurant. The food selection leaves a little to be desired but the quality of what they have is incredible. The beer selection is abysmal and their one draft (at the time, Maui Brewing Co.'s Bikini Blonde) came out far too bright and carbonated). But their ice cream coconut dessert (I think it's just called The Coconut) is pretty fantastic. They've also got a pretty delicious robata grill; unique for Maui.
All-in-all, if you're looking for a food experience over ambiance, I would go to Star Noodle in Lahaina. But you know... the urnials kinda make Amasia worth it.

I've only eaten at Amasia once, but had my most memorable and most excellent meal on the islands here. Extrodinarily creative dishes that are delicious. Loved the foie gras & kalua pig grilled cheese sandwich with cold tomato soup. The "Coconut" was a beautiful dessert that was light and yummy.

My husband and I walked in and immediately felt as if we were not welcome. The hostess acted like we were not fit to be in the restaurant, looking my husband up and down. My husband is African American, as she proceeded to seat us she placed us in the very back corner away from everyone. While we were seated because of the way we were made to feel we got up and left.
THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! I would not recommend this place to anyone.

We love this place! Service was great and all her recommendations were perfect. The price and portions were generous....we can't wait to go back! One of the best restaurants on Maui!!! Awesome!
