Alas Resort & Spa, Elea, Peloponnese, Greece - Explore & Book

"You may not have heard of Laconia, in the southeast corner of the Peloponnese, but it hides some lovely stretches of coastline fringed with citrus groves, shallow coves and fishing villages whose pace of life is suitably laconic (see, you have heard of it). And there are some stunning sites, too: the medieval rock-castle of Monemvasia, the handsome harbour of Gythion, the sand-dune beaches of Elafonisos, the Byzantine chapels of hilltop Geraki. At the centre of these four gems, sitting on a sea-washed spit beside its own private sickle of dark sand, is this surprisingly un-Spartan hotel (Sparta - yes, that Sparta - is the region's main town). There's an impressive double-height lobby with lamps floating like blobs of mercury, 37 spacious bedrooms and suites with taupe palettes and sea views, plus a subterranean spa with its own little pool. But life here takes place outdoors: around the freshwater pool with its thatched bar, the cushioned sofas on their hard-won strip of lawn, the dining tables beautifully laid with candlesticks and bottles of Alas-branded wine. It's only 20 paces to the hotel's little beach, whose enclosed waters are safe and sandy. In every direction you gaze over languid seas to the silhouetted mountains of the Mani, behind which the sun sinks with reliably Instagrammable golds. Highs Kids will love it here, parents too: upbeat staff, good affordable food, massages to ease you into holiday moodThe 2-bedroom senior suites have plenty of space for a family, the jacuzzi suites are great for a coupleIt's a 15-minute walk to the sleepy fishing harbour of Elea, with its bobbing boats and handful of summer tavernas and cafésThere's just enough local culture to keep curious parents happy, and more than enough beaches to please the kidsIt's fun being with mostly Greek guests; barely another Brit in sight Lows The hotel's beach is small with dark sand, but nicer ones are a short drive awayExpect modern architecture, with a touch of bling in the common areasThe pool can get loud with music, kids and visiting locals in high seasonWiFi, we're told, can be patchyIt's a 2-hour drive from Kalamata airport, 3½ hours from Athens (consider a stopover in Nafplio)" - Handpicked by our hotel experts

Amazing place, truly heaven on Earth! The property is well organized, spotlessly clean, and in a fantastic location with easy access to the sea, whether via a sandy beach or low rocks. The staff are extremely kind and professional. They went the extra mile to make our stay unforgettable. We enjoyed excellent food, professional massages, and everything the property had to offer. I was especially impressed by the range of treatments at the spa. I will definitely come back!

Alas Resort & Spa is a true gem on the seafront, offering breathtaking views of the crystal-clear waters. The cleanliness is impeccable, creating a fresh and luxurious feeling throughout the stay. The room was slightly small but tastefully decorated, comfortable, and well-equipped. The view from the balcony was simply stunning and added magic to the entire experience. Service here is exceptional – professional, warm, and genuinely caring at the highest level. Even the scent of the towels and bathrobes had a unique, pampering touch. A perfect destination for those seeking tranquility, elegance, and an unforgettable getaway.

Lovely hotel just outside the quiet seaside village of Elaia in Lakonia, Greece. Rooms are spacious, breakfast was good, there is parking and there are lots of places to swim (pool and beaches). Staff is professional and polite.

The alas resort and spa is situated on the sea in a small fishing village. It is not what I would expect to find in a small fishing village. It is what I would expect to find in Southern California. The amenities were complete and extremely well run. A large buffet breakfast was included in our room price. Nikolas, the manager, was everywhere. He was extremely helpful and the use of his name at local restaurants brought wonderful service. The food was excellent. The facilities were perfectly maintained. The wait staff could not do enough to make your stay enjoyable. I highly recommend staying here.

We recently stayed at this hotel and unfortunately, our experience was far from what we expected from a property that claims to be 5-star. Our booking was mishandled, and we were placed in a room that was already reserved for another guest later in the week. The front desk then attempted to move us, which felt like an error we were being asked to fix — not acceptable. Service throughout our stay was inconsistent; sometimes attentive, other times we had to wait while multiple staff walked past without acknowledging us. The food was hit-or-miss. While some dishes were very good, others were concerning — we were served undercooked meatballs twice, and a kids’ souvlaki dish arrived as just a single skewer on a plate with no sides. The pool was not well maintained, and unfortunately, we experienced health issues due to the water quality. On a positive note, the rooms were clean and housekeeping was impressively efficient — we saw four staff working together to clean a room thoroughly. However, the spa was a major letdown. The massage I received was the worst I’ve ever had, and it left me questioning the training and standards in place. This hotel has potential, but it’s clear that several areas — especially service consistency and food safety — need serious attention and staff training. It wasn’t the worst stay I’ve had, but it certainly didn’t meet the expectations of a 5-star experience.

The Alas resort we stayed (room 305) at left us with the best impressions. All the staff were exceptionally polite and always smiling – from the reception team to the gentlemen and ladies at the pool bar, the restaurant, the beach ,housekeeping ladies . A particularly pleasant surprise was the spa, staffed by experienced professionals who were always ready to assist with a warm smile and genuine care. This is a resort that, although Mani offers countless beautiful places to explore, makes you want to spend your entire day on its grounds. The beach has crystal-clear waters and soft sand, perfect for children, while the pool is spotless and well-maintained. Even though we visited in August and the hotel was fully booked, we never felt overcrowded in any area – there was always a sense of peace and comfort. For us, it was exactly what we needed for our holidays: hospitality, comfort, delicious food, and a warm atmosphere that made us feel right at home.

Magnificent hotel located near the village of Elea in Lakonia. The views from basically everywhere in the hotel are stunning. The sunset here is incredible in the summer. We found the staff welcoming and helpful. We had dinner twice at the restaurant because the food was fantastic. The breakfast was varied and generous with lots of local greek produce. I would love to come back. I enjoyed the ladder leading directly to the sea on the rocks with all the four-poster beds.
