"Inspired by the West Coast food scene, Alaska Airlines has packed its menus with bright flavors and regional ingredients. While many airlines reserve the best dishes for first class, all cabin levels have access to actual meals — not just tiny bags of chips. Main Cabin and Premium Classes have options ranging from Mediterranean tapas (hummus, dark chocolate, almonds, and olives) to a ginger beef wrap (featuring sous vide ginger and garlic marinated sirloin). First class flyers on flights 1,100 miles or more can enjoy a fruit bowl or salad followed by an entrée (ranchero eggs or jerk chicken, for example) or a fruit and cheese platter. And lunch and dinner flights are always capped off with a dessert." - Erika Owen

On Flight AS304 DTW-SEA on Wednesday, Oct. 02. The flight was delayed an hour due to missing crew members. This should have been communicated earlier, not at 20 minutes past boarding time. This is an oversight, totally the airline's oversight. What an inconvenience.

So my first time trying to fly Alaskan Airlines was this past week. I was flying from Detroit to Seattle. It was to be a three day trip with my mother and my aunt. Our flight was cancelled 4 hours before our take off. Alaskan airlines solution was to rebook us on a plane 3 days later. So we would've landed in Seattle 30 minutes before our return flight. I don't see how they thought this was an acceptable rebooking. I called customer service and she couldn't find any way to rebook us for anything that wasn't at least two days later. So I ended up cancelling the flight and losing over 500 dollars worth of attraction tickets I had purchased that were non refundable. Alaska Airlines agreed to give me a hundred dollar credit towards another flight. Thanks but no thanks. I will never attempt to fly with them again.

I have never dealt with a group of people less qualified to function in the workplace. My stuff arrived looking like it had been used for the Scottish Highland games, like it had fallen out of the cargo hold at 37,000 feet, like it had made a debut on one of the ‘hydraulic press’ YouTube Channel’s, like it was delivered by Ace Ventura Pet Detective. Either way - make sure your luggage can survive an actual nuclear strike and you should be fine.

Alaska is very active in our area (Seattle) - often cheapest option inside US, with many destinations - they don’t charge you extra for one-way ticket, which is important, and for choosing seat - free messages onboard are nice - always use it Overall - nothing exceptional, but good airline

Google
Totally unhelpful. There is a problem and I can't use any of my miles for hotels and no one will help. After calling and told to do this and that--- they are totally useless. They are helpful if you want to buy something but now that I want to use my miles --- well forget it! Find another card for miles!

Brandon did a great job at Alaska Airlines ticket counter today. We kept him busy with lots of questions and he handled it like a champ. Great job.

Yelp
On our return flight home, from Detroit to Chicago, our tickets were once again changed from Alaska air to American air. This happens often. How are they allowed to do this? It may have something to do with booking through a third party. That really shouldn't matter. So far, every one we've asked doesn't know why. Club49 says you can each check a bag for free. American Airlines doesn't honor this. So we have to pay for our bags and keep the receipt. We'll have to fill out and submit reimbursement forms then wait for a check from Alaska airlines. Silly and cumbersome. 07/23

Yelp
I usually love flying with Alaska. In general, it's a great airline with friendly staff. However, my recent experience at the Detroit airport was a let-down. After a redeye flight from Seattle, the flight attendants made a big deal about Alaska's 20-minute on time baggage guarantee. Unfortunately, bags for the entire fight were very late coming out (more like 40 minutes). I normally wouldn't mind, but one of our bags was also damaged and so I thought "great, I'll go talk to an agent" only to find that the baggage office was closed with no note and no one around. I waited for another 20-30 minutes but no one showed up. At least a dozen or so other travelers also came by and left upset. Not wanting to wait any longer, we left the airport and called customer service. We were told that "all claims had to be made in person within 2 hours of flight arrival." This is great as a policy, but completely inconvenient at 5am when the office is closed and there are no agents to be found! Emailing customer service resulted in similar lip service. Apparently, they can just close the office and wait out the 2 hour period. Very disappointed in the way Alaska handled this for their customers at the Detroit airport.

Yelp
Alaska was the only reasonable flight when I went to Anchorage a few years back. I did have a layover as it was not direct. It was a standard airline and flight as far as service and time in flight.

Yelp
Alaska Airlines is a new to the Detroit playing field, currently with direct service only to Seattle. This means competitive pricing with their partner, Delta, whose one of many hubs include Detroit! Alaska only offers one flight a day to Seattle, at around 5pm daily. Flights are pretty packed and upgrades are pretty difficult for lowly Alaska MVP members. The fullness of the flights may have been partially due to the competitive introductory pricing or due to the double miles promotion Alaska promoted during the new route "introductory period". Because Alaska's presence in Detroit is very fresh, The ground staff are all pretty new, and are still learning the system. One of the CSRs that was helping me check in my bag was unable to check in my bag to my final destination (I had a connecting flight from Seattle) but was finally able to (after 10-15 min) with some assistance from a more senior CSR. While the CSR did struggle a bit, I did appreciate their effort to try to make things right. So my recommendation is to be patient with the CSRs because many are new and training currently... But with time, this won't be a problems after more training and experience. My inflight experiences during my SEA-DTW flights were pretty good... Plenty of beverage services (an impressive 3 beverage services in coach cabin, for only a 4 hour flight) and all the stewardesses and stewards were very friendly, approachable, and professional. Overall my experiences with Alaska at DTW airport have been pretty good. I know DTW has a lot of growth and potential with eager-to-learn ground staff, so I am excited to see where Alaska will go in the near future in DTW airport!

Yelp
I recently flew Alaska Air for the first time, from Detroit to Seattle, then Seattle to Bellingham, WA. Yesterday I flew them home from BLI to SEA, as well (and then took Delta from SEA to DTW). First off, their customer service is top notch. I recently had received my TSA pre-check KTN (Known Traveler #), but this work trip had already been booked, and I tweeted at their team and they responded almost instantly, and were able to add my KTN to my trip. A few weeks later, I noticed that my seat assignment was no longer in the second-to-last row of the airplane, but rather in the very last row, and they were able to reseat me even though the app was showing no more open economy seats. Some things you should know about flying Alaska, vs. like Delta or Southwest (the 2 airlines I usually fly): 1. Boarding is back to front of the plane (smart!). If you're on a small plane, like my BLI-SEA and SEA-BLI flights, they have two doors and will board from both doors; you also have to leave the terminal to get to the airplane, for the small flights. 2. Sometimes they have video screens, and sometimes they don't. For my SEA-BLI flight they did not, but you were able to watch movies/TV shows/etc. on your tablet or smartphone. 3. They are a *little* stingy with the snacks. For my DTW-SEA flight, they did come around 2 or 3 times with beverages, but the only snack I remember receiving was a tiny pack of the Biscoff cookies (same ones Delta has, but these are like 'snack size' it seemed, whereas Delta's are full-size). 4. DEFINITELY sign up for their Mileage Plus program - I got 5,000 bonus points after my first flight, it seems, and you only need 20,000 to get status, I believe (which includes 2 free checked bags and priority boarding every flight). If you fly them a lot, their credit card seems like a great deal too - you get a FREE companion ticket after only spending $1,000 (within the first 3 months) on it. 5. They seem to have more leg room (vs. SWA/Delta), but the seatbelts are smaller - I'm a curvy girl, and for the first time ever, I had to ask for a seat belt extender for my SEA-BLI flight, as the belt was very small (weirdly, on my BLI-SEA flight yesterday, I did not need one, though). For the larger flights, the belts are a little bigger, but not by much. Overall, I'm a fan of the airline, so if I ever travel to the Seattle area again, I would book them, especially if they are cheaper than Delta.

Yelp
Horrible service. One agent was working at the time I arrived. She is the slowest agent that I have ever seen. Took her about 15 minutes to check in each passenger. The line got incredibly long so I tried calling customer service. The wait to talk to customer service was 1-2 hours. After about 30 minutes, another worker arrived and things started moving. I've been a loyal Alaska Airlines customer for years, but will likely switch allegiance to Delta. Alaska just doesn't seem to care any more.

Yelp
Horrible experience with Alaska Airlines! I was flying with my 88-year old, disabled Mom on New Years Eve from Detroit to Seattle. Non-stop flight that we paid full price for. Mechanical issues with the plane caused the flight to be cancelled and no flights available that evening to get us out to Seattle. So we had to get a hotel (airline paid for that) and sat overnight (definitely a challenge for us, we were not prepared for this) and they rebooked us for the following day. We had to fly from Detroit- 1.5 hours further east - to Philadelphia and then change planes and fly to Seattle. Super inconvenient and difficult for my Mom for so many reasons. No one at Alaska seemed to give a care about our challenges and situation. Most employees were very curt and acted as if we were causing them inconvenience by asking for assistance and alternatives. To top it off, Alaskacouldn't assign seats until the next day. I was trying to be sure i had a seat near my Mom I also learned that there were a few first class seats available on the flight from Philly to Seattle. I asked if we could forego the future $200 flight credit (each) and have them upgrade my Mom to first class, at no charge to her the manager said that they do not upgrade anyone to first class for free - which we ll know if not true. In fact, last week, Alaska upgrades my daughter - for free - to first class on her flight fromSeattle to Washington DC. However they said could pay $500 to buy the upgrade - really?? We are now in Philadelphia and still waiting for seats to be assigned. I have now been told we are on stand by. Wow! What an epic fail and total disappointment. While I may not be the most frequent flyer, I probably do fly 5-6 times or year. Rest assured, I will not be flying on Alaska Airlines in the future. I'll research and find the best airline who handles challenges situations with more empathy and care for their customers. Shame on you, Alaska!

Yelp
Unfortunately, not many people know that Alaska Air flies out of Detroit, Alaska air makes connections through Seattle to all points in the Northwest including cities in Alaska, Canada, and Hawaii, I love this airline,. I just got back from a flight to Seattle and I had a great trip. Although leg room for my husband is a problem on all flights, not so much on AK. I don't know if it's the degree of lean to the seats or what, but he doesn't come out as cramped as he usually does and he has big feet which he can more readily fit on the AK flights. When you arrive Seattle, you will find your luggage gets to the bag claim most likely before you do! They also scan each bag so they know exactly where it is. The last time I flew, I took a few minutes to use the lavatory before going down to baggage claim. By the time I got there, all bags had been claimed but mine and they had taken mine off and were scanning the tags. In addition to that, they do charge for food and alcoholic drinks, but not for soft drinks and were up the aisle several times to serve the passengers. They offer a nice little collection of food to purchase. I like their Signature Tray. It has 3 cheeses, crackers, grapes, bites of apple, a small piece of candy and it is, i think, $7. That's a better deal than the chips and junk food some air carriers serve, I only wish AK flew more flights out of DTW. It would be really nice to see a flight from DTW to Vancouver or Portland, OR, too. Don't hesitate to try Alaska Air, I love them.
