Why You Shouldn't Be Loyal to Frequent Flier Programs

"I've been flying Alaska/Virgin more frequently; these carriers don’t have baggage fees, they tend to have friendlier staff and better in-flight products, and the overall experience feels much better than the big three." - Matthew Kepnes

The End of Loyalty: A Frequent Flying Budget Traveler's Dilemma

"I’ve been flying Alaska/Virgin more as well; like the other carriers I’m favoring, they avoid baggage fees and tend to have friendlier crews and decent in-flight products, so I now pick them based on price and experience rather than loyalty to one airline." - Matthew Kepnes

Google
I never had an issue with Alaska airlines customer service until I came to Pittsburgh. I waited 2 hours for a counter rep to check my bags only to be rudely told she wasn't gonna help me for another hour. I had two hungry kids and with only dunking doughnuts as a food option ticket counter side all we wanted was to get in and eat real food gate side.. Ibought a United Airlines ticket instead. They helped us without an issue. Trips are stressful enough without the poor customer service. Ill never fly into Pittsburgh again using Alaska.

Yelp
100% satisfied with my Seattle to Pittsburgh service ! No delays and embarking was easy off the plane and even a " Have a Great Day " ! Had an amazing snack on the plane that consisted of a fruit plate of apples & cheeses, humus and chocolate mouse. Mmmm tasty ! Can't say enough but thanks for the service and landing the plane in one piece! Frank B is out!

Yelp
This was a good flight. We actually left on time and arrived early at our next location in Sacramento. On the flight, it was nice as well.

Yelp
Airline reviews can be tricky - as most people post when they've been delayed, inconvenienced or just generally upset about one aspect of the flight. So - before you post 1 star - take a look at the airline holistically and look at performance, perks and people. Flights into Pittsburgh are limited by Alaska, but when you fly here from Seattle, there is no other choice. Direct flight can't be beat. Alaska is committed to top notch customer service - mileage plan perks are the best in the industry and the planes are newer and the seats in coach are actually comfortable. Alaska - not just a remote state - but a top notch airline.

Yelp
So I've probably flown with Alaska 15 times in my life. Saturday was one of the worst experiences I've experienced in all of my travels. We had only a 45 minutes flight from Portland Oregon to Seattle Washington with a 45 minute layover. A okay so far. We landed on time in Seattle. But stood on the plane for 10-15 minutes to unload. It's okay still. We know our gate # already.... We catch 3 trains to get to our gate, just to find it's been changed...... Yes. It could have been avoided had I checked the departure board... But we just printed out boarding passes 55 minutes ago in Portland......... Well long story short, we had to back track two trains. Still have 20 minutes before departure..... Wrong. We needed to catch a shuttle to get to tarmack.... And we need to be there 5 minutes earlier. Service was dude as all get out and sent us away to customer service. We finally find them and there is two reps for 12 people in line. After 20 minutes we get to the helpful (as she was allowed to be) young lady behind the counter. She did what she could, which was NOTHING. Here supervisor denied everything she tried to offer us. We purchased the tickets on Priceline, ticket saver it's called... Use it or loose it basically. We missed the plane, nothing she could do. She offered us one way tickets the next day discounted to 458$$ each.......We are stuck in Seattle, due in Pittsburgh /DC for a football game the next morning. UNITED Airlines saved us with one way tickets to Pittsburgh TODAY $136.

Yelp
First flight with Alaskan and I am not impressed. Chose the non stop flight home from Seattle to Pittsburgh. I am not impressed. First they boarded us and then said we could get back off the plane because, oopsy, they didn't have a captain for our flight. Um, what??? Finally after an hour and a half we got a pilot and were rolling. We decided to go big this trip and get first class and it's a long flight. We got a little extra legroom and some food and that is all the extra. No TVs, no bathroom just for first class, and no wall seperating first class from coach. So as we were trying to eat people from coach were standing next to us for the bathroom. And I had some lady in coach's sandaled foot right at my elbow. Ugh! I paid how much extra for first class for it. Oh and the plane was DIRTY! There were crusty bits in the crevasses of the arm rest which looked like maybe a raisin or something and stuff splattered on the wall and the low portion of the armrest. Just, ugh! Not a fan!
