7 Adventurous Things to Do in Anchorage, Alaska | Condé Nast Traveler

"My highlight was a glacier day with Alaska Helicopter Tours: it was my first helicopter ride, I walked on a glacier and drank from a glacial pool, then finished with reindeer sausage and a beer at their lodge; glacier landings start at $439 for adults, longer trips or extra stops cost more, and AHT even offers a shuttle from Anchorage for $69 per person—Sage Dudick, their communications director, described the perspective from the chopper as completely unique." - Jason Nark

We had an absolutely fantastic experience. They were very informative during the reservation process and kept us up to date. I like that they offer a shuttle service which took the guess work out of it for us. They were very organized and Professional safety being their primary focus. Our pilot Trevor was both knowledgeable and skilled. My wife and I agreed that was the highlight of our Alaskan adventure. I highly recommend this outfit. You will not be disappointed.

This was a most excellent experience and well worth the time and investment. We were picked up at our hotel, driven an hour to the site and after the trip, shuttled back to the hotel. Friendly, safe driver. The folks here are very friendly, very professional and make you feel safe and welcome. After a short safety video we're assigned a pilot and off we go to the glacier having plenty of time in the air and to get out and wander while our pilot explained the area and facts about the Knik Glacier. We spent a bit of time flying over the fields and trees in an effort to seek out wildlife. Our pilot Aaron Benjamin took into fact that my wife was nervous about the ride and made her feel safe and comfortable as we started our ride. When we landed on the Glacier my wife said, I want to do this again. Great experience and Aaron helped make it so.

My husband and I went on the 2 hour grand tour for our honeymoon and it was just incredible. The pictures don’t do it justice. The nature here is breathtaking and the landscape is beautiful. The workers were so helpful and the directions were very clear. We felt very safe and taken care of. Very professional. Our pilot was Hayden and he was fantastic! He showed us some incredible places and his skills of flying are amazing. We were even able to see a moose and a bear from up high! Our landings were smooth and the flight was great. He took lots of pictures for us and was so friendly and kind. He is an excellent pilot! We highly recommend him as a pilot and this tour as an experience! If you come to Alaska you have to take this tour!

Our pilot (I believe his name was Charlie) was absolutely fantastic — very considerate, professional, and knowledgeable. He explained everything clearly, answered all of our questions, and showed great skill both as a pilot and as a guide. The tour itself was an unforgettable experience that I would highly recommend. Landing on the glacier and walking near the stunning blue meltwater pools was truly magical — the scenery was breathtaking. We even had the chance to drink fresh glacier water, which made the experience even more special. This was a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, and I would gladly do it again.

Our glacier hike & swim is now one of our favorite memories! Gorgeous scenery and amazing staff members made it an unforgettable experience. Galen was our guide and she was AMAZING! Very personable, accommodating, and knowledgeable. She allowed us to enjoy ourselves while also ensuring our safety. Our pilot Connor made us feel extremely safe and was helpful throughout the entire tour, not just while flying. He gave great insight about the helicopter and surrounding areas while flying by things. Galen & Connor both made sure we had the best experience possible! We highly recommend this tour!!

I highly recommend booking this trip if your budget allows—and book as early as possible, since that gives you flexibility to reschedule if the weather doesn’t permit flying. I’ve been to Alaska three times, taken three glacier trips, and this was by far the best. Alaska is at its most breathtaking when you’re in the sky. You really feel how small you are when surrounded by such splendid nature. The entire experience is great—they had very kind people to accompany you every step of the way. Tom was with us, making sure the suit fit well, until he handed us to the pilot. The flight was super smooth too. Trevor showed us beautiful scenery during the flight, and I didn’t feel motion sickness at all. Our guides, Maty and Galen, were the best I’ve ever had. Not only did they take us to incredible spots and share their knowledge about the glacier, but they were also having fun. They were excited about the glacier and about us having fun, just as we were. They are open-minded, encouraged us to have fun with adequate safety measurements. You’re encouraged to explore the glacier safely, almost like becoming a child again—bringing your courage and curiosity with you. See nature, feel nature, and live in nature. It was my friend’s first time on a glacier. She also didn’t know how to swim, and yet she felt perfectly safe, even as we explored different routes both with and without water. We got tons of photos taken and laughter throughout the trip. I would totally take my loved ones on this trip again if they want to experience Alaska.

Visiting the dog sled camp, learning about the dog sled races, looking at the living conditions, the quarters, interacting with the dogs and riding on the dog sled was a great experience. Then to cap everything off, having the opportunity to walk on the glacier was not anything I was expecting. It was a great experience. Dylan was our helicopter pilot and he gave us very enjoyable smooth ride with great views up and back. I would definitely recommend this tour to anybody.

The best thing we experienced in Alaska! Flying in a helicopter is a once-in-a-lifetime experience you just have to try. We flew with Kyle, who was an amazing pilot and guide. We felt super safe and it was even fun flying with him. The one-hour tour went by so fast, so if you like adventure, we recommend choosing the longer one! Landing on the glacier is truly incredible. On the way back, we looked out for the local wildlife! This company is very professional and responsible—highly recommended!
