Worlds Largest Chocolate Waterfall – Anchorage, Alaska - Gastro Obscura

"Alaska is known for the cold, but the World’s Largest Chocolate Waterfall in Anchorage is pumping more hot cocoa confection than anywhere on the planet. Consisting of a series of copper melting pots that spill liquid chocolate into one another before the stream reaches a grand fountain that settles out into a pool of pure candy, the sweet attraction brings plenty of visitors into the Alaska Wild Berry Park Store which houses the oddity. So popular is the fountain that much of the chocolate has been donated by large chocolate companies such as Nestle and Guittard. The falls pump over 3000 pounds of molten chocolate down the 20-foot installation at any given time, although visitors are not allowed to swim. Please note that the store does not allow people to drink from the waterfall nor sell chocolate from this waterfall. It is for display only. Know Before You Go Please note that the store does not allow persons to drink from waterfall nor sell chocolate from this waterfall. It is for display only. We were very disappointed when we came to the store after seeing this post on Atlas Obscura only to find out this information. They do have fudge and other chocolate goodies on site." - Moun10Bike, d donlinja, Noella T, queenofswing, Collector of Experiences, GarethSA, Rachel, biodieselbarry

This shop is home to the "World's Largest Chocolate Waterfall"—a 20-foot-tall fountain with 3,000+ pounds of chocolate flowing down copper kettles. The store is exceptional, with sweets that are second to none. We had the pleasure of meeting the Manager (gem of a guy), who shared insights into their unique, Alaska-only chocolates. The souvenirs are distinctive, with a few touristy items mixed in. A fun, delicious stop that's definitely worth a visit while in Anchorage.

Google
The Best Gift Shop in Anchorage greets you outside with their wheelchair ramps, flowers, benches and relaxing environment. Walk inside to meet the bears and other wild animals aka stuffed ones. They have deluxe furry hats, an array of socks, hats, warm PJs, Tshirts, jackets and attire for babies and children. Check out the candy dept too and try a sample of a delectible treat. Or watch them make it in the kitchen.

If you find yourself in Alaska, this place is a MUST STOP!! Great people with a fun, camera friendly environment. Their chocolates are to die for! Lots of tourist type trinkets and baubles. Good selection of hoodies and tshirts. Did I mention the gourmet chocolates?! So many different kind of chocolates, your head will swim! Speaking of swimming… they have what is believed to be the largest chocolate fountain in the world!! It holds over 3,400 pounds of liquid chocolate!! Go check it out and try some samples.

Google
Their Dubai Chocolate Bars ($35) & Dubai Strawberry Bowls ($20) were amazing. The chocolate bars are not worth $35, but were delicious. It's definitely worth the experience.

Google
Marked it down a star due to the view of their kitchen not being as good as it used to be. It was hard to see them in the area near their confectionery display. The workers were all extremely nice. The chocolate waterfall is beautiful, although not the world's largest anymore. Cute gift shop area, my kids were impressed with the big selection and delicious free samples.

Google
We bought chocolates and honey during our visit. You can also find jams and honey made from local Alaskan flowers, as well as a variety of chocolates and unique items from indigenous artists. The store features an impressively tall chocolate fountain and is beautifully decorated inside. There’s a wide selection of tourist items, including T-shirts and hats. Highly recommend checking it out!

Google
This shop has variety of souvenirs to get for yourself while in Alaska. I got some honey and chocolates. They have variety of jams as well. I have yet to try the honey but chocolates (although had interesting flavour) were not good quality. The outer shell of the chocolate was very hard to bit into. If you want to buy nice souvenirs this is a nice shop but look elsewhere else for quality chocolates.

Google
Candy Factory and Alaskan gift Shop extraordinaire you can find candies, jams, jellies, a polar bear, tee shirts post cards, native craft art, crystal and glass art and Alaskan mementos. Also the worlds largest chocolate waterfall, keep Augustus Gloop well away from the edge.

Yelp
This place is the chocolate spot in town. Candies are made on premises. If you get overwhelmed with making choices, the staff is willing and helpful. There is no pressure to buy. This place also sells souvenirs and other items, besides candies. I ordered the chocolate covered peanut butter drops. I'm hooked, very good candy! There is a private parking lot, with plenty of space to park. I wanted a picture of the chocolate fountain. Sadly, it's shut down for repairs.
google avatar

Supawat J.

Yelp
There are so many varieties of chocolate, and they offered samplers for customers to try. I tried most of them, but I kindly ask for a sugar-free one, and we both love espresso truffles sugar free and dark chocolate truffles sugar-free.

Yelp
When one of our ship's excursions stopped at this candy store for adults, I had not planned to be so impressed. I initially headed towards the souvenirs and teas. (They have a wonderful samovar blend!) but then I found myself in front of the chocolate counter. I was just going to sample one chocolate (lol!). By the time I worked my way through the jells, my box was full. Between the rich chocolate and the tasty fruit fillings, I was hooked. I can't wait for cooler weather so I can order more.

Yelp
What a cute store! We learned about this place from their sister in the mall. They have a bunch of different types of shirts and candy. All sorts of gifts and souvenirs too. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. It's a clean decent size store. Plenty of parking and areas to take pictures for tourists. Decent pricing as well.

Andrea M.

Yelp
Drove the kids out here because they were excited to see the world's largest chocolate fountain. As you can see from the photo, it is not running and no ETA on when it might be fixed. I'm not sure how long it's been broken but it doesn't appear to have been operational anytime recently.
google avatar

Kristine Y.

Yelp
Great place to go shopping for all your Alaska gift needs! They seem to offer absolutely everything you'd ever think of! They have a chocolate kitchen in the back. It was not working when we went but would be fun to watch them making the candies they offer. The massive chocolate fountain at the entrance is fun to watch and take pictures with. They also have other photo opportunities such as a large o ear for other photo ops.
google avatar

Michelle A.

Yelp
I shopped here to get more souvenirs. I tried the Fireweed Honey ice cream and it was good. They also had fudge samples. I bought an Alaskan Things t shirt, (similar to Netflix Stranger Things), magnets, sourdough starter and sauce, Alaska name signs and a zipper pull and Keychain with my name on it. Spent $60.00. There is no sales tax in Anchorage, so a score all day long.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is much more than a chocolate shop. They have candy, souvenirs, gifts, and of course the world's largest chocolate fountain. They have a decent sized private parking lot. There is a photo op area just outside the parking lit that also has a picnic table to sit. There is also seating on the side and front of the factory. The first thing that you will see when you walk in is the "World's Largest Chocolate Fountain". Try to resist the urge to dive in. The place is huge. There are a few photo ops, in addition to the fountain, available in the store. They have t-shirts, seasonings, sauces, magnets, mugs, hats and everything in between. In the back is where you will find their chocolate goodness. You can get chocolate covered nuts, chocolate covered gummy bears, chocolate covered fruit, turtles, dark chocolate, gift baskets, milk chocolate and a huge Alaska chocolate bar. You can see the factory through the window behind the chocolate counter and the people working hard to make the candy. It is a long cry from Willy Wonka. The chocolate is reasonably priced and tastes delicious. I bought some to take home. I just hope that it makes it. You not only get some delicious chocolate you get an experience. The staff there is very friendly and they offer a military discount on you chocolate purchase. This is one of the few "tourist traps" or gimmick shops that I am all in for. This is a must visit when you are in Anchorage. You can also order your treats online, if you cant make it to Alaska and they do ship.

Yelp
Chocolate Chocolate Chocolate Taste all the chocolate then buy it all lol plus its a nice place to shop for some unique gifts. The also happens to be the world's largest chocolate waterfall...look but dont touch

Yelp
AK Wild Berry is always a nice place to take visitors, along with purchasing gift baskets to mail out of state, which I have done a few times. Cutesy trinkets, comical shirts, home goods and a plethora of candy, both made in house and pre packaged. I was in a couple times this past summer with guests and most recently I ordered a 2# chocolate turkey for Thanksgiving and it didn't disappoint! It was a special order item and although a little steep in price at $40, I did order two of them and gifted one to friends for the holiday. Admittedly, I'll probably order it again next year and hopeful that we will be able to get it in dark chocolate by then too!
google avatar

Yelp
What an amazing store! They have chocolates, jellies and jams, Alaskan coffee, lots of t-shirts, stuffed animals, various trinkets and fantastic jewelry, crystal animals, and many other genuinely good gifts showing Alaska. This is an excellent store with truly special gifts. A friend told me about it, and it was my last stop before heading to the airport. I highly recommend it, and depending on where you are coming from, it truly is on the way to the airport. It is a very good place and has very reasonable prices. You must make a stop here! I was surprised that it seemed to be in a business park away from other stores. Worthwhile, and the next time I visit Alaska, I may get all my gifts here because there is so much variety and the ability to select many different items. Highly recommend!!
google avatar

Joe P.

Yelp
No free samples, no candy being made when we got there. Tourist tacky goods, mostly made in china and not much more selection than any t-shirt shop all over the state. A big "chocolate" fountain that, for health code and pest prevention reasons, is almost guaranteed to be food coloring and water, not actually chocolate. Wish I could get those 15 minutes back.
google avatar

Victoria S.

Yelp
I love this business. Check their website for current hours: Hours as of Feb 15 Monday-Saturday: 11am - 6pm Sunday: Closed And know if there is bad weather/school closure - it may be closed. Just call the store b4 you go. I drove there on a school-closed-due-to-weather day and they were also closed due to weather w/ sign on the door. Which is inconvenient as a customer who drives there but I think taking care of employees is also important. And if kids are home for school - most people don't have baby sitters! And they are a great business and community member.

Yelp
This was a cute spot to visit. Homemade chocolates of so many varieties and the ladies behind the counter were very helpful when trying to pick what to buy. Worlds largest chocolate fountain!! It was in fact pretty damn cool to see. This place had pretty much everything a tourist wants to see or buy. Great spot to stop.
google avatar

Gretel V.

Yelp
We went here specifically to see the chocolate fountain but then got mesmerized by all the stuff inside the store. I thought it was just going to be a regular candy shop but half of it was souvenirs. The staff was super friendly and they gave us some chocolate to try. We took home some jelly as some of the flavors here can't be found in your regular supermarket. Although I knew it would be a tourist trap it's sometimes nice to get trapped in a place like this. Yay chocolate. We also saw a few bunnies hopping around the parking lot which made the visit even better.
google avatar

Deborah P.

Yelp
This store is so cool. They have a huge variety of souvenirs and candies. They also have many photo opportunities. Get your picture taken in front of their ginormous chocolate fountain, tall scary stuffed polar bear or other statues and stuffed creatures. Candy highlights: Chocolates, white, dark and milk dipped everything from fruit to potato chips. Hand made truffles and bon bons, hand painted caramels and cremes. The Glacier water taffy is so good we are ordering more online. Other candies and licorice, jelly belly's, candy made by Hammonds. Souvenir highlights: Magnets, keychains, cookbooks, jams, jellies, tees, hoodies, jackets, jewelry etc. They have a huge variety!
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
Chocolate covered Oreos! I take all my guests from out of town here. They have the best chocolate! They offer free samples in the back. When you walk in you are greeted with a large stuffed polar bear and the worlds largest chocolate fountain. To the right is clothing and Alaska jams. To the left is the chocolate and candy. Friendly service. Fair prices. Large parking lot. Clean bathrooms.
google avatar

Wendy G.

Yelp
We always take, or send our visitors that come to Alaska, here. It's an experience seeing the chocolate fall. They have a nice selection of hoodies and goodies! They make chocolates and Carmel corn and other sweet treats here. They sell packages of treats to send or buy. You can order online all year around for gifts; jams, teas, jerky, salmon or packages of these combinations. They started out in my hometown; Homer Alaska, but have been operating the kitchen here for several years now. They also have an outlet downtown but the one with the kitchen is an experience you don't want to miss.
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
This is THE quintessential tourist trap from days gone by. If you like this kind of thing, this is the place for you. It used to be part of a much larger area of touristy stuff, and the roads changed. Anyways...we had a great experience here. They have a neat chocolate fountain that comes down from the high roof. They have chocolates, candies, shirts, and a bunch of other neat stuff here for certain. It is tour bus heaven for certain, but it is so large, you would never even know it. We had some fireweed and honey ice cream, and that was some wonderful stuff. This is a great stop to take a look at how things used to be back in the day, and to pick up some great touristy tschotzkes. Fun times...great chocolates...and you get to feel like you are in Willy Wonka (the good one).
google avatar

Decorbyme D.

Yelp
Had the opportunity to see this gift store/ chocolate factory where there's the largest chocolate fountain in the country! Selling the largest chocolate candy bar as well! Take note to see how much per lb the candy runs for--I was a little shocked when I got my receipt. Fun products of local items. Enjoyed seeing the local pieces with local artistry. Trying new the salmon jerky and things that are local Alaska!
google avatar

Wesley R.

Yelp
They did pay for an inspection to the bottom of my car after crashing into pot holes in their parking lot and there was no damage. I am pleased with their response.

Yelp
Chocolate waterfall! That's pretty much all my husband had to say to me as I did a little skippy leap thing to the rental car to head on over to Alaska Wild Berry.. Ladies Chocolate is a food group! We walked in and it was packed- I know tourist love cool places and I can often restrain myself---but I went to town here on the fudge alone- I am a purist with fudge - just plain is my favorite but if nuts are an option, yep I throw caution to the wind. They have quite a few options here and the samples, are a sure way to get even the most devout person to give in to a little chocolate sin. I really loved the jams here and bought a few to take back back home with me for some reason the jams here have a totally different taste then what I buy at home and not sure on the recipe but it makes such a difference on toast. About 5 months later after my trip, Hubby brought our middle son for his 13th birthday and they had a blast, of course they stopped here and did another bit of shopping damage because Momma gave them a list. Stop here if you have the time the customer service is amazing and if you can't make it, buy online, the gift boxes make awesome holiday gifts.

Yelp
This is really a chocoholic's paradise. I so wanted to jump in that chocolate fountain, only to my mom's threat of disownment did I back down. To this time I am regretting that decision, well I still have a day and some odd hours before my flight back to L.A =*) Different kinds of candies, jams, as well as stuffed toys, clothing, and other gifts all made in Alaska can be found here. Three hours wasn't enough to browse and choose what to get those special people back home. When you make a purchase of $100 or more you get a 3-box gift set of assorted chocolates/candies. To sweeten the deal even more they offer 10% discount to military personnel and their dependents. Did I mention they have Alaskan made ice cream? Anything and everything for the sweet-tooth can be found here. Even the workers are so sweet and nice. I'll surely be back.
google avatar

Ashley M.

Yelp
Another favorite spot for locals, you can't say no to free chocolate samples. They make much of their chocolates in the building- you can watch the workers as there is a glass wall. The first thing you'll notice as you walk in is the giant chocolate waterfall. It gives the entire store a delicious, light chocolatey scent. Alaska Wildberry is known for its homemade chocolates and for using Alaskan berries in their filled chocolates. They always have a small tray out on the counter for trying a few different samples of chocolates. If you have food allergies, it's best to avoid this and ask the workers what they can offer. Inside you can also buy fun knick-knacks, souvenirs, and clothing. A great place for locals to do some Christmas shopping. Alaskan sausage and jerky's are also sold here.
google avatar

Regina B.

Yelp
When I think about Alaska Wild Berry, the first thing that comes to mind is their chocolate. I am a serious chocolate lover and theirs is the best! The staff is always friendly and ready to help me find what I am looking for and explore new items. They also have a large selection of typical Alaskan tourist items but the chocolate is really where it is at. We have gotten our family addicted and they make requests when we go visit. I have become a chocolate mule!
google avatar

Liz H.

Yelp
This is definitely a must-stop for tourists in the area. It is a bit of an expensive tourist trap, but it is Alaska and prices are normally high anyway. You WILL find something to bring home for friends and family here, no doubt about that. They have everything from jewelry and knick-knacks to chocolate and candy. (Did I mention America's largest chocolate fountain?) There is a fudge kitchen in the back of the store with anything you can dream of chocolate-wise, freshly made. They also sell specialty jellies and jams. The only downside is that it is so much stuff that is laid out in a clustered, unorganized way so you can get a bit overwhelmed. Also, it is a bit overpriced for what it is. Still worth the stop to grab a jar of their jellies and a box of chocolates (delicious).
google avatar

Amy S.

Yelp
Excellent selection and really cool souvenirs. The chocolate truffles are sooo good! (And yes, you can buy just one to eat in the store!) loved the chocolate fountain!
google avatar

Sharon D.

Yelp
I always enjoy shopping for gifts to send to friends in the lower 48 at Alaska Wild Berry . It's cool that they do use Alaskan grown berries for a lot of their products . Their prices are reasonable and they will ship their products for you .
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
Yo, Admiral, whatcha think about hittin' Alaska Wild Berry Products for some souvenirs and gifts before leaving Anchorage? Admiral Ackbar: You know what I think ... Tourist trap? Ackbar: Well played chocolate. Well played. Even rebel hero Leia Organa couldn't organize resistance to the temptation of the World's Largest Chocolate Waterfall featuring 3000 pounds of warm chocolate cascading down copper kettles into a flowing chocolate pool. Alaska Wild Berry Products uses the force ... the chocolate force ... to lure travelers to Anchorage's biggest souvenir empire promising homemade jams, jellies, snacks, clothes, gifts, and, of course, chocolates. May the chocolate be with you ... seriously, why not buy some right over here to the left. Oh my, free samples ... well, if you insist. Ackbar help, it's a trap! Oh, wait, is that a coupon for 15% off if I spend over a $100? I'll be right back.
google avatar

Honey K.

Yelp
Aside from bringing myself in here all the time to get my favorite chocolate covered cashews, I buy chocolates here for gifts to friends out of State with other Alaskan gifts. All the years I've been to this place I still pause for a bit and watch the chocolate fountain. It never gets old.
google avatar

Cindee T.

Yelp
For chocolate and candy fans. Approx 15-20mins max. Needed to do my part as a tourist to visit all the touristy spots. Mediocre tourist spot that did little to spark my inner child or tourist. Saw the world tallest chocolate fountain which was kind of dusty. They had a mini self guided candy, chocolate, popcorn and jam making tour. It's really just a few signboard, didn't exactly learn much. They have a chocolate display where you can sample some of their chocolates. They have lots of gifts and souvenirs available for purchase, chocolate, candies, ulu knife, tshirt, slippers, jacket, caps. Pretty much everything a tourist would think of buying. Staff were polite and courteous. Nice to just pop by to take a look if you have some spare time and is around the corner. Otherwise, skip.
google avatar

Priscilla M.

Yelp
I love this place! It makes me feel like a kid again. It smells so delicious inside! I wish I could swim in the chocolate fountain. The chocolate is so fresh. My favorites are the chocolates that incorporate berries which are native to Alaska. I love this little place. They will box and ship out of Alaska, which is great when traveling! Check out their website too. It is a little spendy but well worth it for quality chocolate!

Kimberly P.

Yelp
Cute souvenir shop. Would have been more enjoyable if the kitchens were open to see the chocolates and jams being made.

Bethany S.

Yelp
Very expensive souvenirs that aren't even made in Alaska. Picked up one item and it said "Made in China". What a ripoff! I'd be more willing to pay higher prices if it was Alaskan made but no thank you. I'll shop elsewhere.
google avatar

Jana H.

Yelp
Lots of gifts to choose from. Prices for souvenirs are a bit higher than elsewhere but the chocolates were affordable and tasty. Staff was pleasant. Nice place to visit.
google avatar

Ajay R.

Yelp
It's a white Christmas here, awesome place with some great gift ideas and wonderful service.

Kellyn C.

Yelp
Fun rtouristy gift shop with lots of local goodies to enjoy (CHOCOLATE! Birch syrup, local coffee, and souvenirs).
google avatar

Ngoc N.

Yelp
Awesome gift place ! Got some Alaskan souvenirs for friends and family. Likes any other souvenirs stores it's $$$$
google avatar

Warren W.

Yelp
There's an incredibly wonderful waterfall of molten chocolate in the entryway. That sorta sets the tone for your entire visit. There's a factory floor where you can watch them making confections, if they happen to be making any that day. Today, only one of the rooms was doing anything of note. If you want to get some chocolate or other candies, you'll have plenty of opportunity. They've also got a substantial variety of other products, such as jams, jellies, and every form of preserved salmon you can shake a jerky at. My wife was helped at the chocolate counter by a wonderful manager named Lisa. Very friendly and service-oriented. So yeah, it's a tourist trap. But if you're in town and just gotta hit up one or two of those to make sure you've earned your stripes as a Well-Traveled patron, then get on out there. Note: There's a free shuttle available from any of the major hotels. Just call and they'll make sure the bus comes around to pick you up.
google avatar

Amy C.

Yelp
Candy store on steroids! Come check out the world's largest chocolate fountain is a must!! So many candies, jellies, trinkets, shirts, souvenirs, and did I mention candy? Like yummy home made choclates, fudge, treats and soooo much delish choices!! Make sure you sample to chocolates to your hearts content!
google avatar

Andrea K.

Yelp
The home of the world's largest chocolate waterfall.. Wild Berry Products has tons of chocolate and candy to offer as well as gifts and much more! Great for the whole family!

Bella G.

Yelp
I had an amazing experience! Carla and Karen helped my pick out the best chocolates and jams! They had amazing customer service and I would recommend this place to anyone!
google avatar

Becca C.

Yelp
For me, a touristy place qualifies as a place to buy nonessential items that will gather dust in your closet. If you really really love collecting sweaters and t-shirts with Alaska printed all over it, go for it! AK Wild Berry does have quite a collection of sweets, old-school candy, fudge, and jellies, but I've never really wanted to indulge in anything beyond some of the fudge varieties. I'm just not a huge candy person anyway. Ladies might like some of the jewellry or stuffed animals for children, but again, just not my taste.

Amy S.

Yelp
Great customer service...Kallie was very helpful!! Chocolates were amazing and cool chocolate fountain.
google avatar

Jenna A.

Yelp
Wish we would have found this place the first day of our trip. We would have just bought all of our souvenirs here! Still ended up buying T-shirt's and hats for a good price. Can't beat a T-shirt for $12.00. Bought delicious jelly and chocolates. Chocolate fountain was a unique touch especially for kids.
google avatar

Kline S.

Yelp
Great spit for all your tourist must grab while in Alaska. The biggest selection of hats I have seen anywhere and with a good range of price options. The real jem of the store is they candy counter. The smell from chocolate fountain hits you before the doors are even open.
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
On my first trip to Alaska over 10 years ago, this was the first place we hit after being picked up from the airport. Yes, it is still hopelessly touristy, but where else in the world can you see a synthetic 10+ foot chocolate fall and have your picture taken with larger than life stuffed animals... it IS a Kodak moment! The chocolate, to me is NOT the greatest... kinda grainy and not creamy, but feel free to judge for yourself as they offer lots of samples to boost a sale. The "jelly filled center" products are stuffed in many a carry on for the folks back home, but its just not of the highest quality. That being said, you'll come across as a hero for buying and bringing home something that says Alaska on it. The do have a great variety of other confections that make up for the mediocre signature jelly stuff thats is worth checking out. The souvenir section is fairly good with prices on par with the tourist stops in downtown.
google avatar

Bill L.

Yelp
Chocolate !!!! Uhem... I need to say my name is Bill and I am a chocoholic. Now, after decades of work, I am able to enter Wildberry without impersonating the Cookie Monster.
google avatar

Vince A.

Yelp
This place is magical. The chocolate fountain and so many cool things here. This is a #1 from product to service. 10 Stars!!!!
google avatar

Bradley H.

Yelp
I visited this shop last week when I came to Anchorage for a mission trip. By far the coolest thing about Alaska Wild Berry Products is the chocolate waterfall that is the largest one of its kind in the world (3,400 pounds of liquid chocolate)! There is also a signed poster from the cast of the original Willy Wonka movie next to it. There are also the usual shirts, hats, and assortment of good for purchase. I ate one piece of chocolate fudge, which was made in the store, and it was delicious. I enjoyed my visit here and there is a lot to see at AWBP.
