Alava's Fish-n-Chowder

Absolutely worth the easy walk from the cruise-lines. THE BEST FOOD we have had on this entire cruise including in Vancouver! Crispy tempura-like fresh Halibut, PERFECT fries, tangy slaw - even better than the salmon bake in Juneau, the batter is divine! Had a fun brief chat with the owner to add to the ambiance- a true local treasure with plenty of local stories. Skip the whole fake vibe of the pier and enjoy an easy stroll down the street to this place - I sure wish it was round the corner from us in Arizona, I’d be there every day!

This place is so darn cute and delicious! We got the Cod sandwich and a side of clam chowder and it was the best we have ever had. We found a table by the water down the street to eat our food by the water for views

I had an absolutely wonderful experience at Alava's Fish-n-Chowder in Ketchikan! The clam chowder was hands down some of the best I’ve ever tasted—rich, creamy, and packed with flavor. It’s clear they know how to do seafood right. The menu also offers a great variety of fish and other seafood options, so there’s something for everyone. What made the visit even more special was the owner. He took the time to chat with me and shared that he’s been running the place for about 15 years. You can feel the passion he has for his restaurant, and his friendliness really added to the warm, welcoming vibe. Super nice guy! If you’re in Ketchikan, this spot is a must-visit for delicious food and great hospitality. Five stars all the way!

Had a good vibe about Alava's and the food was amazing. We took a wandering tour of Ketchikan on our cruise stop and came across Alava's and had the best chowder and fish and chips we've ever had. Totally out of the blue experience.

Every item was delicious. We had chowder, clam strips and a fish taco. The chowder was awesome. 👏 Not a fancy place basically a food truck on the ground. Nice folks running the place. Very reasonable prices

The best shrimp huge and crispy! Best clam chowder! Best fried Halibut. The onion rings were crispy and huge! We could eat eat here every day! The price is so low! Best sea food and best deals!

This hidden gem along the waterfront is a must visit if you enjoy traditional fish and chips and clam chowder. We had the chowder meal on our first visit and chose onion rings as the side instead of fries. The o- rings were some of the best I’ve ever had! Outdoor dining is available on a picnic table or you can order takeaway. My second visit was for takeaway on the way to the airport. I had the cod, fish & chips. Again, the freshly made food was delicious. I enjoyed eating it while awaiting the ferry. In a town with extremely high prices for food, you’ll find not only some of the best food here, but reasonable prices as well.

The best fish and chips in Ketchikan. We shared the halibut and cod with the family. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 The kids were going crazy over the food. 🍟😋 And this was by far the cheapest meal I paid for my family of four. 💰💵 Best quantity and quality of food that doesn't break the bank. 👍
