Had a wonderful first visit to Alba. Staff were fantastic. It’s so new, fresh and clean. We loved the futuristic vibe and minimalistic (Scandinavian?) design. The thermal baths were plentiful and spacious, with clear temperature signs and pegs for hanging robes. A lot of thought has gone into accessibility, with wheelchair access everywhere and lower pegs for hanging robes.
The beautiful, thoughtfully landscaped gardens and surrounds are growing up and maturing well, clearly emphasising native flora. This is being enjoyed by a wide range of fauna, too. We saw fairy wrens, yellow robins, black birds, Willy wagtails and other birds, plus some rabbits helping to “mow” the lawns. The presence of flora is an indication of a successful balance between nature and development. Well done. Considering it was the school holidays, we were delighted with how calm and uncrowded it was - we arrived at 2PM. Being assigned a specific locker, complete with towel and robe waiting inside, was a lovely touch, and staff were checking and refreshing the change rooms frequently.
The showers at the end of our visit were absolutely stunning — we didn’t want to leave — with luxurious Salus brand all-natural hair & body products. Very conveniently, there were “spinner” machines in the change rooms for removing excess water from swimwear, plus hairdryers.
The only downside of our experience: Other patrons. The worst element? Their mobile phones. Despite the ban and being told upon arrival to leave them turned off, in their lockers — plus tasteful signage reminding them inside — I reckon 50% of the guests (all female) took their phones into the springs area. They were NOT just carrying them discreetly either. They took photos and panoramas, made calls and were tapping away undoubtedly on socials. This included bringing their phones into the actual thermal pools in which we were bathing. Also, some guests were reeking with perfume — a huge no-no (I’m allergic so it really bothered me).
Some guests wandered off the ample pathways, traipsing over the plants to take shortcuts while juggling their phones & take-away coffees. Seriously, the selfishness of these people was abhorrent. So disrespectful of Alba’s amazing locale and energy, disrespectful to other patrons, and doing themselves a huge disservice. They missed out on a calm, device-free, off-grid experience in nature. I hope Alba can find a way to tighten up the rules, which is why I’ve given only 4 stars for “service”. Otherwise, we were very happy with Alba and look forward to coming again in future.
