Where To Eat Outside In Astoria

"Portobello is serving their full menu of classic Italian-American dishes and Neapolitan pizza outdoors on the big brick walkway in front of their restaurant on Ditmars Boulevard. They’re open every day from 11am to 10pm, and they also have their own app if you want to order pick-up or delivery." - hannah albertine

I used to come here often when I lived in Astoria, where I also grew up. I left the area but came back to NYC to visit and decided to have lunch here with my family. The pizza was as good as always, the garlic knots fresh hot and delicious, and the atmosphere warm and friendly. My husband had a Greek salad which he enjoyed. My son and I had the $6 beer and slice special which came with a nice tall glass of German beer. All in all a great meal just like the old days at this old school pizzeria. Hope to be again!

Google
Alba's was amazing. Got pizza to go from here a few days before and now eating in and the service and food was top notch! Excellent!

Google
Nas 7th bday party. They got a lot of pies and chicken wings. I couldnt go but bae brought out a box for me. Two slices and chicken wings. Slices were good. A bit on the oily side. The chicken wings were meaty, but very crispy.

Google
one of my favorite pizza spots in nyc 🍕 always so good (ps. they have the best garlic knots in the world)

Google
I walked in here right before my hair appointment because I was feeling a little hungry and had 15 minutes to spare. Nice pizzeria and friendly staff. I am picky when it comes to pizza so I was really hoping the pizza was going to be tasty. I picked their grandma slice and was DELIGHTED. Such a delicious piece of pizza! The dough was soft and perfect in its flavor and texture. JUST how I like it! Sauce was perfect too. Not overly sweet. The mozzarella was fresh and enjoyable. I like that they did not put too many herbs/greens on top. Very little and it was just enough. I’m so happy I came here today unplanned. I’ll be back with friends ♥️

Google
Such a cute neighborhood spot with old school, Italian charm. The food may not be the best Italian in New York City, but I have to give a huge shout out to the penne vodka pizza!

Google
Stopped in for a few slices and salad to take out. Added a couple of toppings on Margherita slices. Got home to total disappointment. Large salad overdressed and quite small. Toppings quite light on application and most importantly slices soggy, sauce and cheese sliding off a very cardboard like crust. Don’t bother. I am sure there are many other options available. In this day of a pizza renaissance, pizza should be a transcendental experience. This was far from that.

Yelp
A great pizza joint/restaurant! The ambiance was very family-like cozy, and the service was amazing! We had the prosciutto & arugula pizza and an Italian cold cut sandwich, which weee both amazingly delicious!

Yelp
We wanted to get some pizza for our movie night date In and we made a good choice stopping by at Alba's! Defined a must try pizza near Astoria, we also grab a cheese and spinach calzone which wasn't that great so I would suggest sticking to the pizza . We gave it 7/10!

Jenifer F.

Yelp
Vodka sauce is one of the best I've ever had if not the best. Chicken parm was great. Very clean restaurant. Came for the comedy show on a Thursday night and it was a great time.
google avatar

Briyah P.

Yelp
What a delicious restaurant with the best vibes! I can't believe it took me so long to check it out. And they sometimes do comedy shows there also! The menu is so long, it was hard to choose what to order! This time I got the papardelle bolognese. Next time I'm going for the bow ties with broccoli rabe! And the cocktails are amazing also. You feel like you're at a real old school joint, and you are! It's been in the family for generations.

Yelp
Whenever I'm in the mood for pizza on ditmars, I have to go to albas. The service is always quick and great! We were in and out and were able to sit outside and enjoy people watching. They definitely have good pizza and garlic knots! We will try their pizza dishes next time.

Yelp
Albas Pizza and Restaurant is a classic Italian family style restaurant with great, homemade. Owner Sal and the staff are so friendly and the pizza is top notch. But there's much more! I love the fettuccine with spinach and sun dried tomatoes and my friend devoured the spaghetti Carbonara. Eat the n the comfortable dining room or order to go, but you must check out Alba's Pizza and Restaurant on Ditmars Blvd in Astoria!
google avatar

Catherine S.

Yelp
My go to pizza place and if I need to cater a big meal. We love the pasta especially the penne al vodka.
google avatar

Yelp
Great slice, fast service and clean! Had 2 slices of cheese and a caprese and it was all delicious.

Yelp
Food, Beer and good Service. What more could ya ask for. Came here last week for an eggplant parm sandwich and it was delicious. Nice sized sandwich and it was priced right. Inside are was not the biggest but it was clean neat and organized. They have about 5 drafts on tap and that was moderately priced too. Go here...

Andrea L.

Yelp
The pizza and food is great but the service you get from the TWO GUYS (the old guy and young guy) that make the pizza is horrible! I've been in there repeatedly in which I'll ask nicely for a sauce or to cut the slices in halves and you would think that I asked them to remake the pizza or something with the faces that they make or how they mutter stuff to each other or under their breaths. On the other hand the owner is real nice and always very respectful. Thankfully there are some new ladies that are now working there, that are very hospitable.

Yelp
Fantastic! Here from Sarasota... just got in town. I had the Florentino which is an exceptional pasta dish, light but so flavorful. Our server, Angie, was very friendly and attentive My son had the veal Parmesan and he enjoyed his meal. The atmosphere is nice with a bar and TVs. It's not loud though. Writing this as I wait for my Tartufo! If in Astoria, don't miss dining at Alba's!
google avatar

Yelp
Best pizzeria I ever had. All staff are very friendly Food and drinks are excellent.

Alyssa G.

Yelp
It was my first time stopping here. I went in for a quick slice with my husband tonight and automatically was greeted with the friendly staff. They took our order at the front and had a good selection to choose from. I am extremely picky with sauce and let me tell you their sauce was AMAZING! They had a seating area to stay and dine in which I will definitely be checking out on my next visit to Alba's!

Jamie G.

Yelp
Check your receipt when using debit or credit card. They charge a ridiculous amount in fees when using a card. Will not be returning back after being charged at $18 in FEES!!!!

Yelp
Ordered the BBQ chicken pizza. Delicious but you can't have more than 1 slice before the flavors overwhelm you and you have to walk away. The flavors pack such a punch. Perfectly grilled chicken, Rich mozzarella, BBQ sauce, red onions. I had to cut the flavors with ranch dressing. I felt like I did on Thanksgiving day and had to retire to the couch. Don't get me wrong. It was very very good just a one slice and done type pie.

Leon S.

Yelp
This is the worst sandwich i ever seen, the cheese was melted on the foil, the sauce flavor not good, not coming back..

Yelp
If you grew up in Astoria in the 1960s as I did, you fondly remembered Frankie's Pizzeria, right under the Ditmars subway stop. It was just a by-the-slice place, which then was all I/we could afford. Frankie's is long gone, but fortunately Astoria now has not just a great place for pizza, but a location for sit-down Italian dinners with a glass of wine, for a reasonable price: Alba's. The food, service, and ambiance are all first rate. The owner really cares about you enjoying your meal. And while Astoria now has more hipsters in black t-shirts and stocking caps than Neapolitan-born grandpas wearing flannel shirts and workman's caps, Alba takes your heart...and taste buds...back to the yes, good old days. If you have family members or friends who grew up in Astoria and moved away long ago, invite them back for a Sunday afternoon: stand on Shore Boulevard and marvel at the only place in America where you can see two iconic bridges simultaneously. Look at the biggest swimming pool in America. And then go to Alba's and order...anything! Your taste buds will thank you.

Johnny G.

Yelp
Really good food and service recommend to eat in or delivery...really great spot and neighborhood!!

Rosa R.

Yelp
I gave them another chance but again disappointed with my order again. I ordered California Wrap Deans it was so salty that I had to throw it out. first the burnt Calizone now this. really. How is that possible? Would like a response from the owne.

Yelp
Alba's has been one of the neighborhood pizza staples for Astoria since the 1960s. From childhood birthday parties to after school slices with friends, to a quick order pickup for your family, this pizzeria feels more like an extension of your home than a business. And their pizza is a New York as you can get--light, airy crust, perfect blend of mozzarella cheese, large slices and great prices. That being said, I've always taken Alba's for granted as just another good slice shop--that is until the vaccination mandates were initiated. This is because that despite the immense pressure they must have endured during this dark and illogical time, they remained one of the few indoor dining establishments to make the outcasts feel welcome. Thank you, Alba's, for having courage and common sense, and for your years of service to the Astoria community.

Yelp
I usually love love love this place, but the gentleman shunned us from eating at 9:08pm saying they only were serving pizza. The restaurant usually stops serving food at 9:30pm. SMH! Very disappointed and I knew the owner wasn't there or they would have accommodated me.

Yelp
So I was in the area and asked someone where I could get a solid pizza. They told me Alba's is the place to go. It's a very nice establishment. Not your regular pizza spot but a dine in pizza and Italian restaurant. The ambiance is small but classy. A definite spot to take the lady out on a quick date to catch up. Nice place to go for brunch, lunch, and dinner. They have a decent bar with some good wines, and some solid beers. Staff is very customer service oriented and checked in on me every so often. I decided to have personal pies ( I bought 2 but one is enough for one individual. Clearly I was eating with my eyes because they are 12 inch pies.) , one Alba special and one Margarita. The Alba special is great especially if you like a loaded pizza and the margarita in my opinion has a perfect cheese to sauce ratio and is very robust in flavor. I paired these bad boys with a beer and a nice summer day and I was good to go. Will come back next time to try more food and drinks but thus far Alba's is the pizza spot in Astoria.

Yelp
Had some pizza at Albas recently and it was as good as I remember it. I used to come here a lot as a kid and as a adult it's ran by the same folk with the same taste and happiness. Each slice has its own way of living and it's own way of introducing itself to my taste buds. I'll be back again and I'll be ready for more.

Yelp
I think this place has the best pizza in the area. It's slightly more upscale then you're standard pizza joint but the prices are more or less the same. Pizza always has a thin crust, sweet tomato sauce, and good cheese. My go to's are the regular and the white pizza. Margarita could have more basil or use a better quality cheese. I love their garlic knots. They don't shy away from the butter and garlic! They make a pretty good penne ala vodka for a pizza joint. It's a bit steep at $14 but sauce is really good and pasta is always cooked great. I love their eggplant parm heros. The eggplant is nice and thin with a good crust. They have tons of dining space and even a room in the back you can reserve for small parties. This place is perfect for casual dinners with family or even a nice date night. Will definitely keep ordering!

Yelp
A nice to sit down for a slice or two. We ordered a large pie of the Quattro pizza without portuito. It was kkay. The dough was medium thickness and crunchy. It was good but there was very little sauce on the pizza even though at first glance it looked like a lot. The sauce had no flavor just its natural tomato flavor. There are lots of artichokes on the pizza and olives too. This pizza lacked flavor. Even after adding salt and pepper and the other spices. Tge second slice was slightly better. I think this style of pizza is tastier the colder it is. Mera's Tip: Have a slice.

Yelp
While visiting Astoria, hubby and I decided to get some take out to go and I found Albas on my phone to be within walking distance. I ordered the chicken parm hot hero and hubby ordered the veal and peppers hero. We also decided to split an order of fries with cheese. The sandwiches were very good, the bread was fresh, toasted perfectly with plenty of filling. The fries were excellent, not covered in yellow mucky cheese but broiled with real cheddar. The hot hero's are definitely large enough for two people! The staff is very friendly and attentive and they're definitely observing Covid protocols. We're looking forward to trying their pizza, it looks delicious.

Yelp
I've been here many times. The service is great and it's a large pizza restaurant with plenty of seating. The pizza is mediocre. Some of there other dishes are more flavorful like the baked zitti, eggplant Parmesan, sphaghetti and meatballs. I come here when I'm in the mood for some pizza and because it's close by.

Yelp
Albas was a great pizzeria at one time ... I grew up in Astoria and at that time there pizza was the best !!! I'm recent times there pizza is ok but I'm turned off by their service ... they charge 2 dollars delivery fee ??? What are the Uber eats they have their own people working at the restaurant?!? Then the fee is not covering tip ...? I understand the pandemic cost problem but that's over and why not the fee ? Then you have a very young personal working there that are clueless and even got into an argument with me and my husband... they really need to remember that the customer despite their issues can voice a complaint ... this is not against the law and their workers cannot start getting nasty and violent... very nasty and violent!! I'm sorry to write this review but albas is not the same place I grew up and with and despite the gentrification there are many people who still go there ,.... I am no longer one of them and between the bad attitudes from and management does nothing ...The employees who are like 20 years old and have no real experience and the fees that should have been outdated since COVID was over I will never go back... So sad because I know the mom and dad that built this place would have never tolerated this business etiquette... so sad the 2nd generation never kept up to their standards.. horrible

Yelp
You can have my heart or we can share it like the last slice ? Sorry can't share Alba's slices Alba's pizza is simply delicious. I don't live near by but come to Astoria once in a while while visiting. Great fast service and friendly staff. The different pie selections are mouth watering. Alba's is great for a quick grab and go lunch or even a eventful dinner gathering. I have celebrated a birthday here before and I just add the evening food is spectacular. I enjoyed some white wine after I busted both of my knees falling onto the floor after missing one step I didn't see coming out of the restaurant clearly not reading the sign in front of my face the waiter helped me up and brought me ice with the quickness, and the wine. Great emergency service. Definitely worth a stop !

Yelp
My girlfriend is still reluctant to eat out; yet I miss the excellent food that's served here ; well I can safely say their delivery service is just as good as dining there. The food arrives fast and piping hot and the portions are amazing yet affordable.I really like the option of choosing a pasta side with various choices of sauces (which is as good as the main course). I order at least twice a month now and I've never once been disappointed and my girlfriend concurs.

Yelp
Very yummy local pizza place. Call ahead and your pizza is ready super fast. They also have slices to go if you're not in the mood for a whole pie. Our current favorite is the Genovese pizza. It Includes pepperoni, bacon and sausage. The staff are always very nice and clear on the phone when ordering in

Karen V.

Yelp
Not only have I been going there for at least a couple of decades, but I've always raved to people just how picky I am when it comes to pizza, and that Alba's is the ONLY place I will get pizza at; in fact, I've taken many people to eat there and referred many people to this establishment. HOWEVER, when I was there this past weekend, the Sicilian slice (which I had been fiending for!) was God awful. The cheese tasted like, pardon me for saying so, vomit! I had to rip it off in its entirety in order to get the dough and the very, very limited (as in almost, unseen) amount of tomato sauce in my mouth. It was a waste of money and time. I realize many restaurants have resorted to cheaper ingredients due to cost of inflation, etc., but my Sicilian slice was not only inedible, but it did not present well either -- as soon as they placed it on the paper plate it was a bland, uninteresting square with a "blanket" of cheese and almost zero sauce. Never again!! As much as I am not happy about having to leave such a review, maybe I can temper it by saying their calamari in marinara sauce is one of the best I've ever had.

Yelp
Amazing pizza on ditmars Blvd in Astoria. They have plenty of options to choose from from pizza to Italian dishes. Alba's has a lot of seating options with a private back where you can throw private parties and events. This place is the best! I've eaten here for 10+ years and the food has always been amazing. They have great pizza. The sauce on the pizza is perfectly seasoned and tastes delicious. The last time I ate here I also ordered their pasta. In my experience pizza places usually don't have all that great pasta. I had the Penne Alla Vodka. It was just as delicious as the pizza! The spaghetti and clam sauce is also amazing here. Great place for family dinners. One of the best pizzerias in Astoria. Staff is friendly and attentive. You can always see people walking home with pies for dinner. Definitely worth checking out. The food here is authentic Italian family run and the owners are very down to earth. Easily one of the best pizza restaurants in Astoria. Very friendly and attentive staff, amazing food. I eat here once every couple weeks and have yet to be disappointed. If you love pizza. This place is a must try. You won't be DISAPPOINTED!!

Yelp
My family and I love Alba's! There are so many great options on the menu and everything is always fresh and delicious. The black linguini and shrimp is my favorite. The staff is friendly! Chris is great

Pooja R.

Yelp
We love the chicken bacon ranch pizza! They are always timely in their delivery and pick up!

Maria K.

Yelp
I had a bad experience with them while waiting for my food i observed them using their hands to mix the cheese on the bucket while touching their phone ,money ,counter ...I stood there watching them and i was in total shock...I did complain about it and i was told that its ok to do that because the temperature inside the oven was high enough to kill the germs ...I really did not know they cook the salad etc so the germs are gone ...Anyways i took my food pay and threw it out i totally lost my appetite after observing all that !!!

Yelp
We ordered from Alba's today and we loved it! Regular slice was very tasty, good ratio of sauce to cheese. crust was good too. The chicken marsala pizza was super delicious! I think its my new favorite. Chicken cooked well, mushrooms are full of flavor. Great spot!!
google avatar

Yelp
Take-out orders: Cheese pizza: good Pinwheels: my husband loves these. Baked clams: they are the best around the neighborhood. Zucchini linguini pesto: delicious! First time having zucchini pasta. The pesto is very tasty. I would definitely re-order & recommend. Can add chicken but i had it plain. Chicken parm: was not a huge fan. The sauce tasted a bit too sweet for me. The chicken was a bit dry but not too much. Pappardelle bolognese: not a fan of the meat sauce. Was a bit dry & not very flavorful. I would have liked some garlic & basil. Not awful just not as good as i was expecting. Broccoli rabe: very good. Have reordered several times. Meatballs (side order): 4 large pieces. Not bad. Riceballs: large pieces. Pretty tasty. Great portions. Prompt delivery.I would continue to re-order & try other dishes.

Hossam S.

Yelp
Their penne al vodka is amazing one of the best pasta dish I ever had. Even though the chicken was a little dry I recommend you get it the sauce they use is amazing, and also the place is so welcoming and the server is so nice and friendly and understanding. Would definitely come back!!!

Elaine E.

Yelp
The penne vodka pizza is great! Delivery was on time and everything got here hot and delicious! Looking forward to trying more items.

Yelp
This is our standard go to place for pizza in the neighborhood. Not hip, not artisanal with an oven hauled from Italy but the good old, reliable low key Alba's. Bang for your buck, they are never stingy on the toppings. We actually never dined in, have been doing pick up orders for years now. Never once they screw up the orders and the staff always of pleasant demeanor. Personally, I don't find their sides memorable. The salads are pretty standard and not much to write about the pastas. Albeit portions are generous so that's a plus in my book. My favorite pizzas are the pesto chicken for those days you don't wanna see a red sauce. The artichokes really hits the spot for me and helps me in hitting up the daily fiber quota. Alba's special, Soprano and Genovese are the most frequently reordered ones. There are quite a few pizza places in Astoria, that varies in quality and price obviously. But Alba's has a special place in my heart for being a solid pizzeria and was there when I was so sick of cooking during the stay-at-home order of covid19. p.s. You can place online orders thru their own website.

Yelp
I went in for a meal. Pasta and some pizza. I sat at the bar. The bartender ignored me. The pizza counter guy instead asked me what I want. I ordered a slice. I heard him yell "one slice to go". Confused I'm thinking wtf, so I tell him it's to stay. Then I get my slice. It was cold I don't know how after they put it in the oven. It tasted like an old, stale slice, ya know what I mean? I guess it was sitting there a while because their attitude sucks and no one probably wants to go in there for a quick slice. I never got any water, etc. at the bar. Instead I ate my slice on a paper plate while the other customers at the bar got the full attention of the bartender. Obviously, I decided to not get the pasta. When I complained to the staff, the pizza counter guy said to me that he asked me if he can offer me a menu meanwhile when he never did ask me. He just uttered bull$@&% I don't know why?? I paid for my slice and tipped the bartender. He finally came over and grabbed the money (of course). That's when I thanked him for his hospitality and walked out. Why didn't he greet me? Offer me water? A menu? He didn't even come over to me until the money was on the counter. A real major disappointment for Astoria. This place will definitely be going out of business sometime in the near future and they will be wondering why. But it's because they judge their customers and treat some like second class citizens. I mean come on guys, I get it... it was my first time and I'm not a regular but is that how you treat your customers and expect them to return? Is that how to run a business? It may be true that you are a mom and pop pizza and pasta joint that's been around a long time. But Astoria has transformed overnight into a different neighborhood that is squeezing out shops like yours. And when you go, people won't really care because you'll be replaced and we will carry on. Have a wonderful day :) P.S. Thanks for your response Sal! You're a stand up guy! You really are a savvy business owner! I'm glad everyone here can see your reply because it makes you look great when you address the locals that way. Also, please make sure the plates are studded with diamonds . Cheers!

Marvin L.

Yelp
It is the worst chicken parmigiana I have ever eaten because they sent me pieces of beef combined with pieces of chicken
google avatar

Yelp
I'm really sad that I even have to leave this review . I've been coming here since I was kid and the food was always great , but tonight it wasn't . Along with the servers . My guy accidentally dropped it at the table next to us and then tried to drop it at our table . For anyone who's worked in F&B you know that's an absolute no . Especially during Covid . Not to mention none of the staff had a mask on . Just overall upsetting to an establishment that used to be the spot when I came home . Cashier is great . Nice and accommodating. Hopefully things will get better .

Yelp
It's a very good place for pasta, pizzas and drinks. Alfredo Sauce is light and delicious. The spinach wheel are really amazing, the best I had in my life. The service is impressive, fast, polite and efficient. I loved this place.

Yelp
Cousin's night in Astoria was a great success; and dining at Alba's was the perfect spot! The food at Alba's is very good, they have a really good selection of not only pizza but also of very good Italian dishes which include so many of my favorites, it's always a chore to try to decide what to order and tonight was no exception! I broke down and ordered the chicken rollatie with a side salad and a glass of house chianti. The entire meal was just too good and I forced myself to eat every bite, because I was on a business trip and had no way to take a doggie bag! Our server was very pleasant and attentive. I was so busy enjoying dinner and taping with my family that we completely lost track of time and being that we were seated in the back dining room, we basically closed down the place; oops sorry staff, but thanks for not rushing us out, we had a lot to catch up on. If your looking for reasonably priced Italian cuisine when you are in Astoria, look no further than Alba's!

Yelp
Family owned and run right on Ditmars.. This Gem is my go to Italian restaurant in Astoria. My Husband has been coming here since he was a kid and he got me hooked. The restaurant is very quaint and it has a back room that you can rent out for like a party or get together. The pizza is in my opinion the best in Astoria especially with sausage. They slice the sausage very thin the long way and are not skimpy with it. I love their vodka sauce it's cream and flavorful absolutely delicious. Another favorite is their chicken Franchesca which is bursting with that lemon flavor and I always get penne on the side same sauce. My go to Dish when I am trying to be good is their zucchini pasta omg so good especially with chicken. It actually tricks your mind and you feel like your eating real pasta. The staff is amazing and super friendly. The owners are a cute elderly couple and their son helps run the place. If your in Astoria check it out it's good Italian Food not over priced!

Yelp
I love this place ! I always order from this pizza shop they already have your name and house addressed saved so you don't have to repeat yourself every time love it!!! Delicious food !
