Albatross

Albatross is absolutely the best restaurant in Birmingham. My wife and I agree that the food was even better than any we had in Paris. We both are avid meat eaters but the presentation and flavours meant that we didn't even miss that it was fish and seafood. We got to try some foods for the first time such as oysters, smoked eel, dashi, and trout. It is well worth the money as a special occasion or to spoil a foodie.

Had a great night here for my birthday. Lovely old brick building in the middle of a modern block. Had to cross a little bridge to get in. Had all the ingredients to be a bit pretentious BUT the staff were awesome and very friendly, welcoming and made us feel comfortable. Great explanations of the food and concept and a lovely cocktail to kick things off. The tasting menu was one great thing after another. Special mention to the smoked eel and the incredibly creamy dessert. Just the right amount of food and wine / sake pairings. Left on a high and went in search of music.

My partner brought me here for my birthday and we were not disappointed in the slightest. Both seafood lovers, this was right up our street and the first time we had a strictly seafood tasting menu. Each dish was so unique, so fresh and creative but the whole experience had a cohesive feel. It was like you were being taken on a journey, each plate a destination to pause and take it all in. The wine pairing was fantastic, and the option to have different wine pairings based on your preference for creativity or intensity was a really cool touch. We took two different wine pairings out of the three to try and they both really complimented each plate. The vibe is edgy, but relaxed - a mix of exposed brick and stone with soft lighting and plush chairs. With only 14 seats, it was intimate and perfect for the occasion. You could tell the chefs were incredibly passionate about what they do. You could see the precision on their faces as they prepared each plate. Each dish was explained carefully and they took the time to answer any questions we had. The wine sommelier also was super helpful, when deciding which pairing to go for! Tucked away from the main street you would hardly know it’s there until you knew - I would highly recommend!

Both were a combination of wine and Sake to pair with the 5 main dishes. Pairings Mussels: Cesanese Silene Damiano Ciolli / Hurluberlu Sebastien David Cod: Michisakari Aperitif Daiginjo 2021 / Michisakari Signature Brew Futsushu Monkfish: Konishi Shuzo Clear Sky Honjozo / Tedorigawa Kimoto Yamahai Red Mullet: Pauly Axel Lieserer Mosel Riesling / Sokol Blosser Pinot Gris Rice Cream: Tsuji Honten Kijoshu / Domaine Plageoles Loin de l’Oeil I must admit I was initially a bit apprehensive about an entirely seafood menu but this was easily one of the best tasting menu experiences I’ve ever had. I thoroughly enjoyed the open kitchen and being able to watch each dish being created in front of us by the talented team and the tasting notes and detailed explanation of each drink pairing by sommelier were unmatched.

I visited Albatross with a friend for the first time last night to celebrate my birthday. As their website says it’s not just about the food, it’s a unique experience. You get to watch the chef finish each dish right in front of you explaining the ingredients used to prepare it. The entire menu was perfect. All the ingredients blended beautifully in every bite. The restaurant is very cozy. It doesn’t seat many people but that’s all part of the concept. The staff were extremely professional, friendly and attentive to every detail. And the experience didn’t end there: the background music was spot on, tying everything together perfectly.

One of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had. Every dish, perfection. Personal faves were the lobster toast and the sea trout but every dish was a hit. Enjoyed alongside a new wave soundtrack, amazing wines and lovely attentive staff, couldn’t ask for much better for my 30th birthday. The set up of mostly 14 strangers gathered round a small kitchen watching someone prepare 168 in total dishes sounds somewhat intense but as a diner, it was super relaxing, calm and truly inspiring to watch. We travelled all the way from Preston just to visit and it was 100% worth the trip

1000000/10 experience!! Incredible food, amazing post punk music, very cool vibe, perfect sake and cocktails, and very friendly staff. One of my favorite restaurants in the world and can’t wait to go back!

An excellent culinary experience. Both food and service were top class. It's a 14 seat chef's table, all the food is prepared in front of you and served by the chefs. Took the Esoteric drink flight which had some unusual wines and sake. A very memorable evening and will definitely be returning.
