Albergo del Sole Ristorante Pizzeria

We visited this restaurant for dinner and were truly impressed! The place is warm and cozy, with a calm and pleasant atmosphere. The dishes were tasty, beautifully presented, and you could really taste the quality of the ingredients in every bite. The service was excellent, and I want to give a special shout-out to Abdul, who was without a doubt the best waiter of the night. Always kind, attentive, and professional—he looked after us perfectly and gave great recommendations that made our evening even better. A wonderful place we’ll definitely return to. Thanks to the whole team, and especially to Abdul for his outstanding service!

I went to this restaurant yesterday and it honestly exceeded my expectations! The food was delicious, beautifully prepared, and full of amazing flavors. Every dish was made with fresh ingredients, and you could tell there was real skill behind it. But what really made the experience special was the service: Abdul, our waiter, was absolutely fantastic. Polite, friendly, and very knowledgeable—he recommended the best dishes and checked on us throughout the meal with a warm smile. Honestly, Abdul is the best waiter in the restaurant – attentive to every detail and made us feel completely at home.

There is a 2.5 euro cover charge but I think this is definitely not the kind of restaurant that can charge a cover charge. They serve water in glass water bottles with their logos on them, which means they put tap water in it and the water costs 4 euros and if you can't finish the water you paid 4 euros for, you can't take your bottle and leave (there was no water/price on the menu either). I ordered steak, the meat was good, they cook meat well everywhere in Italy anyway, as a restaurant in a very touristic Italian town, in the main square, their attitude is eat quickly, go, new customers will come. They put a blackboard on a stool at the open entrance of the restaurant. It says: you can't just order a drink, you have to order food as well. In other words, the attitude is very touristic restaurant attitude but the prices are higher quality, local, genuine venue prices.

I can’t really understand why the reviews are so low. We had here the starter, the main dishes and the dessert and everything was delicious. The meat was soft, the salmon was amazing! They have a nice light space and great service. It is actually the best meal we had in Varenna (and we have high standards;)

I didn't stay here, just ate at the restaurant. Absolutely delicious. I had the lasagna and the Leonardo beer. By far the best beer I've had in Italy. The lasagna is very good as well. They also have free wifi. Definitely worth a stop if you're in Verenna.

The food was okay, but the service was the worst we’ve ever had. We sat down and immediately felt the service was poor. We decided to give it a try because we were hungry. Our waiter, Carlos, took 19 minutes to take our order. As he was taking the order, he walked away and turned around every time we mentioned something about it. We ordered two Coca-Colas, but he walked away again. They gave us a bag of bread without anything else. Our water arrived 20 minutes later, and our food took another 15 minutes. By the time we got our food, we still had no soda. When our food arrived, they brought us an extra plate and insisted that we had ordered the other plates, even though we had mentioned that we hadn’t. When we tried to explain that he hadn’t taken the time to take our order properly, he just walked away again and said we were in Italy and needed it to explain better (whatever that means)😏 By this time, we were eating what they had brought out and still had no soda.lol We had a nice day, but this guy Carlos managed to ruin it in less than two minutes.

We found this place by chance for dinner after visiting Villa Monastero. We sat outside—the atmosphere was super cozy and authentic, and the waiters super friendly and attentive. The pizza was incredibly delicious—thin crust and super fresh ingredients. The house white wine was excellent! Totally worth it!

We have been here two days In a row because the food( Great Pizza/fish) was extremly delicious and the Service was good as well. The staff were also very helpful. All in all we really enjoyed the good atmosphere and should we visit this Place in the future again this Restaurant will be considered as our 1st choice.

Took the ferry to check out Varenna and timing worked to have lunch. The restaurants near the water were packed so we headed up the hill to Albergo's. They had very nice patios but we took the first table available which was inside. We decided on the spicy salami pizza and it was good. We have been craving a pepperoni pizza and this was close to what we have at home. We said we wanted to split the pizza and it came split on two plates for us. Very nice. Someone needs to explain why pizzas are never cut into slices in Italy to me. Good lunch spot. Good service.

I was hesitant to come here because it was in the middle of a busy area. I should have trusted my instincts. The service was slow. The food came out cold as we watched others who were seated after us receive their dishes. You have to flag down the waiter to get service. I would say overpriced for quality of food. Would not return due to low contact with staff and cold food.

Not what you expected to experience at a restaurant in Italy. Food was below average and the service was disappointing. A prime location with a nice view should step up and try harder. Just expected more from them.

We were in Italy two weeks and this was the ONLY bad meal we had. It is like eating at an Applebees in America - very much like chain restaurant food. Even the olive oil was in packets like ketchup. We did not get pizza, so maybe that would have been different. Even the cocktails were really bad. The service was also terrible. This place is about the location and NOT the food. The bathrooms were also disgustingly dirty.

We had an amazing night here!! As you walk the shore - restaurants that have a view will be full to the brim with guests - this place is set back into town, and didn't have many guests at all. Don't be fooled - this place was incredible. Our Airbnb host recommended it and I'm glad we stuck to our plan and ate here! Great food and service. House wine was a little sweet, and well priced. We enjoyed bread and oil to start. The caprese salad was fresh and light. Calamari fritti was the best we've ever had. It was so lightly breaded - unlike US dishes. Spaghetti alla carbonara was buttery and delicious. Penne arabiatta was perfect!! (I'm a tomato pasta lover). Strong garlic, perfect amount of sauce, just a littttle spice. It was great. The wait staff was kind and let us practice our Italian. You don't need a reservation to eat here!

We got into town late and founds this little gem. They were warm and inviting people. The house wine is very good, and we loved our mixed salad and fresh rolls. Hubs had the Penne pasta with red pepper and some veggies, he was sweating but though it was so good. I had the Tagliatelle Bolognese. Do delicious. We lived it all. Our waiter brought us limoncello to top off the night.

Nice little pizzeria. Friendly service, nice outdoor seating away from the lake, reasonable food. The pizza was good, the penne was fine. Great bruschetta.

After walking around Varenna for a while we settled on this location mainly because there were seats available outside. We ordered the brusette, T bone steak, whitefish from the lake and sides of sautéed potato and salad. The brusette was a fine size (6 pieces) and good to share. The tomatoes were very fresh. The fish was cooked well with mild flavours and the T bone was also cooked with simple flavours although it was a bit pricey (18E). The portion size was large and it was cooked as desired. Both the salad and the potatoes were tasty. This is not a place for a romantic or special meal but the service was very good and the waiters were super accommodating.

We ordered what the English menu described as Milanese Risotto with Osso Buso. Came the risotto without any trace of beef/veal. When we asked the explanation was that it takes a long time to prepare osso buco. Of course it takes time. The shanks are usually prepared ahead of time. Don't list it in the menu if you don't intend to serve it. At the minimum you should tell us when we ordered. Cheating is bad, period!

this was my worst dinner in verenna ! from a bad waitress who took our order and messed up badly, to bad food, to an owner who refused to accept errors for both. Worst experience in Verenna !

Not a bad place to eat, but don't expect too much. A little tourist-y and a little overpriced. My pork was a little overdone and my wife's fish was a bit bland. The pizza was fine, as was the pesto. The staff was friendly and we didn't have to wait to be served. The tables in front are a great place to sit. Not a perfect find, but not bad. I'd give it 3 1/2 stars if I knew how!

We were quite satisfied with our food and service. We had seafood spaghetti and T-bone steak. Good portion on these entrees. The seafood spaghetti was really delicious, clams, mussels, squid and shrimp.

As Americans with no experience traveling abroad we had had 3 and a half days of failed dining experiences before stumbling into Albergo del Sole. We were struggling with the language barrier and the culture shock. Traveling with 3 kids is stressful and so is trying to have the vacation of your lifetime. The host was very welcoming and sat us at a large booth with our 3 kids which was perfect! Ordered the house red and the meat and cheese appetizers to get started and 3 plates of buttered penne for the kids. They knew to bring the kids food out first with the appetizer! The kids all devoured there food which is saying a ton for 3 picky eaters! Win win! As our dinners arrived we sent the kids out to the piazza to play! My wife had the buckwheat pasta with potatoes. I had the waiters recommendation of local lakefish which was a sardine. We both loved our dishes. They also proudly accept Visa which was great sine most are trying to fool you that their credit card machine is broken. We will be going here again!

Overall a great experience. Amazing little setting in the town square and open late hours. Great place to stop if you get to town past 3 and need a bite before dinner

Service was friendly, fast, great. Food was delicious! Loved the 2 dinner specials - tonno (tuna) and ravioli - and the local beer. Good pricing. Indoor and outdoor seating on Piazza San Giorgio - beautiful square, a one-minute wall from Lake Como. They didn't rush us to finish, so we relaxed and watched people enjoying the square for a bit before leaving. Our best meal in Varenna!

I loved my Pasta Amatriciana (Very Spicy), and my girlfriend liked her Tortellini Panna Prosciutto.

Great location on the center squarer, however the restaurant seems to be a classic "tourist trap" with high prices, poor service and mediocre food. We Waited more than 1 1/2 hour for our food (!) - and still we had to pay for extra drinks in the waiting time. Couples next to us left their tables as their food had the same waiting time. Once the food arrived it was not fully warm and our white fish "Lago" was overcooked and dry. The kids had pasta which was good. At the end we ended up paying +120 euro for a meal for 5 persons which was the worst we have had in Italy so far. Cannot be recommended

Nice restaurant - great food, good service, reasonable prices - ate there twice. We will return next time we're in Varenna
