ALBERGO GELSOMINO (Kos, Greek Islands) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Dodecanese island hotels don’t get much more historic than the century-old Albergo Gelsomino, which was the very first hotel to be built on the island of Kos. It stands right on the beach, a minute’s walk from the port and the old town, and its unique silhouette cuts a memorable figure along the seaside boulevard." - Tablet Hotels

Very rude staff at lunch time, were asked to pay before we asked for the bill.|We went to Albergo’s last Sunday(3.8.2025) for lunch and some beach time but unfortunately had to leave early as the waiter made it clear that we weren’t welcome to stay longer.|The incident was quite a surprise to us, as we had come to the hotel for drinks last year and dinner only 3 weeks ago. In both cases, we enjoyed ourselves very much and have nothing bad to say about the experience.|However, Sunday was rather different.|We had made the reservation for lunch. We had also enquired about the sunbeds and were fully aware of the hotel policy.|There was 3 of us, but our daughter was going to leave for the airport. We intended to stay a while longer and then leave for the ferry.|When we arrived, we asked for the taxi to be booked for the airport for one person.|When we went to ask for our table, there wasn’t a table reserved and there wasn’t one available that was in the shade. So, we sat near the bar area. The food was also very different than dinner service in the sense it really wasn’t very good. I had an average at best caesar salad. Then we asked about the sunbeds and were given 2 by the rubbish bin.|We wanted to try out the beach, in case we wanted to stay at the hotel in the future. We had stayed in their sister hotel(Pelagos) last year, but the sea was not ideal in that area.|When it was time for our daughter’s taxi, we went to the reception , to get her suitcase. Our beach bag etc was left on the sunbeds. A waiter told us that we haven’t paid. We told him we weren’t leaving, only our daughter was. I thought honest mistake.|Then we saw her off, and of course we went outside to say bye to her. Again, someone(I think she was the front of house) asked if we were leaving. We again told her we weren’t leaving.|Then we went to our sunbeds. I was about to order another drink and the same waiter(who asked us about leaving without paying) came over. He told us we needed to settle our bill as our bill was large. The bill was 119 euros. I would hardly call it a large bill.|When my husband went inside to talk to the manager, we were also given a rather weak excuse that the waiter had to close the account cause his shift was ending.|In short, the food was average, the service was terrible and we were treated like criminals who were trying to skip without paying. Obviously we won't be returning.

Property is well appointed. Rooms nice - bathrooms excellent. Service really pretty poor. From reception to dining. Doesn’t match the vibe they’re going for in my experience and opinion. Maybe it’s just because it’s in Kos. Looks high end. Didn’t feel it. Room was SO noisy from street - entire night - need to upgrade windows for the price they charge to stay. They’re going for luxury but falling short - but given there isn’t real competition anywhere nearby I suspect it won’t change.

We stayed at this hotel two consecutive years. It’s a gem in the city. Large stylish rooms, great selection of breakfast, delicious food and drinks, nice beach with amenities, and last but not least, perfect customer services. Small but very comprehensive hotel. I wish all hotels were like Alberto Gelsimino. Thank you for making our stay a memorable one.

We wanted to stay at their beach, which was almost empty. they told us to leave because the sunbeds were full…even though we said we will of course pay the price of sitting there. Horrible customer service. We have visited a lot of countries that include most of europe, asia and america. We have never been treated like that. Do not recommend at all.

a complete disappointment. the food was extremely tasteless, i had a tagliata and the meat was very greasy and i felt i could only eat a quarter of it - especially as it had nothing else to do with a tagliata. my boyfriend had sea bass, portion of about 2 forks, with zucchini which also tasted like nothing. to make up for the bad quality of the meat, we were given a dessert on the house - which we did not want & no consideration was given to intolerances here either. when we politely refused, it was simply rudely put down for us. i absolutely cannot understand the positive reviews and cannot recommend the restaurant.

2 beds, 1 umbrella is 25 euros. 1 bottle of water and towels are included. Especially the staff who is responsible for beach beds was very unfriendly to our questions. The sea is not good.

Very beautiful place ! amazing + very generous service & ambiance + delicious food - most likely the best place to be on the entire island ! closest to the ocean + view on sailboats > not too touristy only the white sandy beach is missing but who wants it all - truly a wonderful stay all around - Thank you very much (A group of 7 people here before hopping onto "our" sailboat)

We found this restaurant when we visited the town earlier this week and decided to book, it was a great find.|Our dinner was outstanding and the setting is beautiful, we were seated outside looking out at the sea. The service was attentive but not over bearing, food delicious with homemade bread, Amuse-bouche and lovely cocktails. We had a starter and main course each and shared dessert and a bottle of wine and the price was extremely reasonable for such high quality food. This is a gem and a treat and well worth the visit.
