Albergo Milano

Our room was located in the Casa Rosa apartment, which is a separate building from the hotel. We loved our room's balcony that directly overlooked the lake, but it was located up 3 flights of stairs -- quite a climb with heavy luggage. The breakfast buffet was delicious -- especially the muesli. Be sure to make a reservation for the hotel's restaurant (La Vista restaurant). We had the 4-course menu and the food was amazing.

We stayed for 3 nights in a lake front room in the dependance Casa Rossa, only a 2 minute walk from the hotel. The room is small but comfortable with a good bed. The star is of course the balcony, lovely views over the lake. With 2 chairs and a small table. ||Breakfast is on the terrace of the hotel with good pastries, cakes, Bread, cheese, etc. You can ask the staff for cappuccino etc and they will gladly make it for you. ||We parked our car in a special place inside the garage at the beginning of the village. The hotel has 3 spaces so you need to book in advance and you need to collect a badge and key at the hotel first. The garage is full at times so this was a very nice plus. ||Only con was the smell in the evenings of a restaurant below the balcony (through a vent that ended right at our balcony) So I recommend the rooms on the second Floor (we stayed on the third Floor). ||We also recommend dinner at the hotel restaurant which was delicious!

This is the most amazing small hotel to stay in Varenna. Do not hesitate to book it as I always do lots of research when traveling and this place is special. We stayed in the main hotel with the a side balcony view of the lake. I loved everything about our room and the location of the hotel. Please also remember to book into the hotel’s own restaurant. It is such a treat, we managed to eat there for two nights of our stay. You sit on the most beautiful terrace overlooking lake como with exquisite food (risotto with peaches amazing and the chocolate mousse was special). You also eat on this terrace for breakfast. We also easily ferried to Bellagio and Mennagio - both worth visiting. My other tip after eating in this hotel restaurant is to book into Al Prato for dinner - that food is also outstanding. Thanks for an amazing stay!

CASA GIALLA APARTMENT- Nice apartment in a central location close to everything. The apartment itself is very big & spacious which we loved, and even though there is no aircon the fans work well at night. |The cons:|- 1. broken shower head & base severely floods! You can’t stay in there more than 2minutes before water is running out of the base kn the floor. Cleaners would have seen that when they cleaned it, just lazy it wasn’t fixed. |- 2, no outdoor balcony or patio to sit. Lake Como is incredibly beautiful - would recommend a place where you can be in the fresh air|- 3. Our booking & the website clearly stated a breakfast kit if checking out very early on the last day (which we were). Upon checking out the night prior we’re told they don’t do kits anymore. Not good enough given we now had no food to feed our little one the next morning, plus it was in our room cost! I showed her where it was listed on the website, but nope still too hard for her to grab a yoghurt & piece of fruit from the kitchen right there. Bad service!!

The best part of our stay was being in Varenna where it was beautiful, and we were easily able to take the ferry to other places on the lake which were also incredibly beautiful. There were so many beautiful villas and gardens that we visited in Varenna, Bellagio, Lenno and Tremezzo. There is a nice walk along Lake Como in Varenna but also in the other villages we visited. Our room in Albergo Milano was small but clean, quiet and with good air conditioning, and we did have a small balcony from where we could see the lake. The breakfast at this hotel was Great. They had so many options, and the person setting up was always ready to bring us a cup of cappuccino. The restaurant location was fabulous overlooking beautiful Lake Como and the mountains, and the food was good. One particular person at reception was extremely helpful providing us the ferry and train schedules as well as information on local places of interest. We were very appreciative of that help.

We had the most amazing stay at Albergo Milano. We stayed in a terrace room which had an incredible view of the lake. The rooms were clean and exactly what was needed for a short stay in Varenna. The hotel was quiet and in a perfect location right in the centre of the village and a short walk from the train station. Breakfast was included in our rate and was simple but very yummy and there were plenty of options for all tastes. We are already thinking about when we can come back!

This is a beautiful little hotel with amazing views and kind, helpful staff. We were in one of the side/garden facing rooms, but the view out to the lake and mountains was still incredible, and we adored having breakfast on the terrace in the mornings. Breakfast was always fantastic with a great variety of options. Our room had everything we needed and the bed was very comfortable. Everyone was so nice, and we got some excellent hiking recommendations from reception. The location was fantastic - just a short walk from the lake-front promenade, the ferry dock, and wonderful restaurants.

The positive is that the view is phenomenal. However , we arrived with luggage and is had no idea that we would have to carry it ourselves up multiple steps without an offer of help. The garage parking is quite a bit away. The food was really disappointing and not of the quality we’ve experienced anywhere else in Italy.. The walls are thin and it is very easy to hear the neighbors.

By far one of the best, privately hotels I've ever stayed at in my life. Everything you see on their website, is even better in person. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The room was pristine. The views from our balcony were unreal. The restaurant was great, the breakfast was great. I will absolutely be coming back here when I stay in Varenna someday again. Make sure you listen to their website when it says to pack light, you really do have to climb up a lot of stairs to get to your room that are very narrow and it is pretty much impossible to do if you have a large suitcase.

This is the first time I have stayed at Hotel Albergo Milano and without hesitation I can say it exceeded every expectation we had. We began our booking prior to COVID and, as expected, we had to move our booking several times. They were very accommodating and all communication was extremely friendly while maintaining the highest degree of professionalism. Upon our arrival we were met as if we had stayed here several times and were returning customers. We were fortunate to have a room with a terrace that was exceptional. The entire hotel was always exceptionally clean and the staff met and exceeded any request we had. We had one staff member that was especially helpful and always had a smile on her face and more than willing to assist in whatever manner possible. Thank you Alice for making our stay so enjoyable, you are one of the staff members hotel guests see very often and are a great representation of Albergo Milano hospitality. The hotel restaurant was fabulous. I would recommend using this restaurant at each opportunity. Food was presented very well and as good as any restaurant we have visited it Italy. If you are thinking about a visit to Lake Como, definitely consider staying at Varenna and book a room at Albergo Milano.

The Albergo Milano and the Hotel Du Lac were the Hotels that "got away" during our recent 3 night stay in the Lake Como area. My guess is that Varenna is a magnet for American destination weddings, which probably explains why parts of these Hotels' reservation books were already full, even when we inquired many months in advance. The Albergo Milano is located right in the old town and up. It looks very romantic and complete with killer views from the balcony.

Excellent hotel with an amazing view on the lake side! Service was outstanding. The dinner was phenomenal. Everything we needed in Varenna. Easy walk to the Castle, the Ferry, shops, etc. would definitely recommend Varenna over the busier towns and would recommend this hotel again. We will absolutely stay here next time we are in Northern Italy. Fantastico!

"VARENNA'S THE PLACE TO STAY IN LAKE COMO, AND ALBERGO MILANO'S THE PLACE TO STAY IN VARENNA!!!" There's no doubt, Varenna's the place to stay while visiting Lake Como... this is a great little village that's own's the market when it comes to quaintness & charm!!! And if you're gonna stay in Varenna, the place to stay is The Albergo Milano!!! You can always tell a fabulously run property from the reviews when everyone refers to the owners by their first names... Bettina & Egidio set the bar for hospitality in the Como area... This charming little waterfront hotel will steal your heart, and take your breath away at the same time!!! Our small group of 10 friends booked way in advance to get the waterfront rooms in the main building with balconies and terraces facing the lake for four nights in mid-june... WOW!!! the views are incredible!!! I don't think you can find a better home base for your vacation anywhere in the Como area... These folks run this little hotel like a finely tuned instrument... The rooms are bright & warm, the bathrooms large and colorful... The included breakfast buffet was fabulous!!! Several juices, coffees, teas, espressos, cappuccinos, granolas, fresh cut fruits, a large assortment of meats & cheeses, poached & boiled eggs, freshly baked breads & pastries, jams, breakfast cakes, etc... There's just no way anyone would be disappointed with this spread!!! And this isn't some little breakfast room tucked away in a basement, the breakfast takes place in their brightly appointed restaurant with a wall of glass doors revealing the lake & the alps and of course on their incredible waterfront terrace... The view is so good you won't want to leave the hotel!!! And as impressive as their breakfast buffet is, dinner on the Terrace at their La Vista Ristorante surpasses it... Egidio, Bettina and their crew serve up a fixed prix dinner menu with gourmet quality foods, wines and presentations that are just incredible!!! While it seems Egidio oversees the Kitchen, Bettina runs the front desk with an incredible flare... She's knows everyone and everything in the area... She gladly made wonderful recommendations & reservations for our group's dinners at several great restaurants... she recommended an assortment of fun activities throughout the lake area, and she even went as far to arrange a fabulous boat charter for our group which was a highlight of our visit... And when Bettina & Egidio are busy, Chiara takes over the front desk with ease... she's fun, polite, professional & incredibly helpful!!! The Albergo Milano is a great value, it's wonderfully managed, has the prime location on the lake, and some of the best food you'll find on Lake Como!!! Thank You Bettina & Egidio... we'll be back!!!

Great, friendly people! All the way from the booking to the exit of our stay. Very clean, well kept and modern property. They take great pride in their upkeep and service. A bit challenging to find, but pretty much everything in Varenna is. You will not regret staying here. It is also highly recommended by Europe travel guru Rick Steves.

Bello! We loved every corner of this property, even the little "crazy" cat, and I'm a dog person! The staff treated us like we were family. A special shout-out to Mark, thanks for being such a gracious host. Not only did he check us in and show us to our room, on a rainy afternoon (the top floor of the casa rossa.....which we loved), but he was also there for the first evening dinner, making sure all guests were being taken care of. We had 3 meals at the restaurant and each one was not only a fantastic experience, but was absolutely delicious. The fish, the lamb, the apple tarts; yes order it all. I recommend Albergo Milano and the town if Varenna to anyone traveling in the Lake Como area. Of all the Central Lake towns we visited (Menaggio, Lenno, and Bellagio) Varenna was my favorite. Warm and welcoming yet refined, with superb service and courteous merchants everywhere we went. What a great experience!

Stayed here last June. Was absolutely amazing! Varenna is a true gem, and this hotel has a special charm. The restaurant, staff and entire package makes you feel at home in the mountains. In all of Italy this place truly held our hearts. It's our new definition of cozy. Clean, charm and character, professional service. You can't go wrong here! Ask them for the best gelateria. Varenna had better gelato than Rome, cinque terre...you name it combined!! :)

We did not stay in the hotel, but very much enjoyed the Vista Restaurant. The host was accommodating on a rainy night on our arrival and made excellent suggestions. We all had 3 course meals, relaxed, and began our Veranna visit with excellent wine.

Stunning little hotel perched above the water. Gorgeous views from the room terraces and restaurant terrace. The owners are wonderful, catering to your every need, very responsive to email prior to booking for advice, etc. we felt like we were guests in their home

My wife and I just returned from our stay in Varenna at the Albergo Milano's Casa Rosso. Our room was perfect for two with an excellent bathroom and one of the most gorgeous views by which I have ever been greeted. Casa Rosso is a two minute walk away from Albergo Milano towards the town center and on the water. The staff of the hotel is great - warm, welcoming and very helpful. They even provided us with a take away breakfast since our train left at 0600, two hours before their restaurant opened. You can't go wrong in choosing this hotel.
