We stopped by here for dinner before taking our train back to Zurich.
My friend was really craving pizza and this place had a nice selection of pizzas and was at walking distance from the station, so we decided to check it out.
The decòr was a little cliché of places that are trying too hard to appear Italian (one look at the checkered red and white tablecloths and I joked that I felt like I had been thrown into Lady and The Trump) but the restaurant has an interesting placement as it's nestled against a wall of rock and big windows, and I liked that. The pizzaiolo was Italian, which is always a plus :-)
Alas, one look at the menu and I knew that unlike in Italy, there would be very little for me to eat here, as in Switzerland Celiac awareness is so low as to be practically non-existent. Add to that the fact that I cannot have most nightshades either (peppers, eggplant, raw tomatoes) and it eliminated 95% of the menu.
I opted for the seafood risotto; my friend ordered a salad and a pizza Napoli. The service was quick, efficient and friendly and for that I would give them 4 stars.
The salad came in a bowl (nice portion) and had a nice mix of fresh and crisp veggies. The risotto and the pizza were brought out once the salad plate was taken away (once again, good service); very nice presentation. The rice was perfectly cooked and the risotto creamy; however it was sorely lacking both in salt and in seafood flavor. The seafood was rubbery, which means it had been overcooked, and not very flavorful. I understand that of course they'd have to use frozen seafood, and this was a nice mix; it just really showed poor skill in cooking seafood. At 27 francs a plate, I expected a bit better.
I couldn't taste the pizza myself, however the crust looked great: fairly thin, crispy at the edges, well-cooked but not dry; plenty of mozzarella but not so much that it sagged heavily in the middle and overpowered everything else. My friend seemed pleased :-)
This seems like a good place to go for a pizza night and I would definitely recommend it for that (assuming there were no Celiacs in the group); however as I have to rate everything, I can't go above 2, maybe 2 1/2 stars.
Though I will say that I might return and give them a chance to make a better impression with one of the meat dishes :-)
