Was in Orkney for the first time ever for my best mates wedding. The reception was in the hotel and I also stayed here too. The rooms were very clean tidy and modern. The staff were sooo friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food in the restaurant was amazing. The portions are huge for reasonable money. The breakfast in the morning was also top notch. I loved my short stay in Orkney and would definitely stay at the hotel again.

Convenient for Kirkwall and as a base in Orkney, near ferry terminal for Northern Isles and 'Travel Centre' aka Bus Station. Room spacious and with adequate heating. The decor is prone to be dark purple, not to everyone's taste. Small window. Bed was comfortable. Breakfast plentiful and cooked to order. The main issue was noise from the bar below the bedroom which went on until beyond midnight on two consecutive evenings. Had to buy ear plugs.

It's not a restaurant. Good place for a traditional Scottish meal in an authentic bar setting, accompanied with a nice selection of local beers. Try it at least once if staying for a few days in Kirkwall.

This is a small hotel but very cozy and comfortable. Nice room and a great location. Very clean and the staff are friendly and accessible. Nice breakfast with cooked to order options. We also ate in the restaurant and the food was excellent. Would definitely stay here again if we ever return to Orkney.

So you aren’t going to find any 5 star hotels in the Orkney Islands, but this hotel was cozy and clean with a great staff, good location in the heart of Kirkwall. They served a nice freshly ordered breakfast with a nice selection. The restaurant offered good food and drink with excellent service. We would definitely come again.

The hotel has been refurbished to a good standard relatively recently, was comfortable and well maintained. Our room (superior) had space for a desk, small sofa and small table so we had plenty of space to spread out and for our clothes. The hotelier was welcoming and very helpful, as was the service throughout. ||The hotel is conveniently placed close to the waterfront in Kirkwall and in easy walking distance for the main attractions. Although there is no complimentary parking, it is only a couple of minutes walk from the town's free parking. ||Breakfast was basic but OK - we had the continental each day so cannot comment on the cooked breakfasts||Like others in Kirkwall I suspect, they have trouble in recruiting staff so the Bothy Bar was only open at weekends, but the main restaurant, with a bar, was open. We ate in the restaurant for 3 of our 5 nights there, partly out of convenience and partly because few restaurants were open in Kirkwall at the start of the week. The food there was average , but not expensive. Dishes looked good on paper but often were slightly over-cooked. Choice of wine by the glass was weak.||Overall, the Albert was a very good place to base ourselves in Orkney

The hotel is located on a side street, just off the main route through the centre of town, so ideally sited without feeling busy. It's a couple of minutes from the harbour one way, and similarly to the travel centre/bus station in the other.||The restaurant was fully booked on our first evening, but we were directed to the bar, which had the same menu. A good selection of food, and very friendly staff - so we ate there for the rest of our stay.||Unexpectedly spacious room.|Would definitely stay there again.

We didn't stay here just had a meal with our large group with Rabbies. The food wasn't too bad, the service was good. We had the breaded Grimbister cheese, macaroni and cheese, tofu salad and sticky toffee pudding. They were pretty good to be able to serve such a large number of people and get all the food right. So I would give them kudos.

Yelp
The Albert Hotel is a delightful guest house in the centre of Kirkwall. It has plenty of character and smart rooms newly refurbished to a very high spec, cracking Orkney breakfasts with plenty of choice for vegetarians too, and inexpensive metered parking alongside. There was free wifi throughout the hotel and our room had a flat screen tv, a proper hairdryer and one of the most comfartable beds I've slept in. A lift to each floor came in handy when we had cases in tow. The welcome was warm and staff went the extra mile to ensure our comfort. The Bothy Bar at the front of the hotel was warm and cosy with a nice selection of drinks and a homely vibe. The Bothy was also very popular with the locals and was a good spot to wind down and relax after a day of sightseeing. The meals served in the rear bar weren't amazing, and the dried out Hunter's Chicken had seen better days, but everything else about The Albert Hotel was pretty darned perfect. The tea and coffee making tray was generously replenished daily with the makings for multiple cuppas, and some very nice shortbread. We also got a bottle of water each every day. Its those little touches that make a place special. We'd come so close to not staying in Kirkwall, frightened off by hotels where woodchip wallpaper, swirly-whirly patterned carpets, chintz curtains and migraine-inducing bedspreads were a feature. So glad I persisted in my search for somewhere smart, fresh and clean with all mod cons. Mind you, there's not much competition when it comes to Hotels in Kirkwall - there just aren't that many of them. If you want to visit in high season, be prepared to splash some cash! Highly recommended.

Yelp
I would've given this a much higher review but the music thumping all night long was beyond annoying. Trying to get restful sleep was virtually impossible. It's a shame that hey allow the bar to get so noisy. The hotel was clean and comfortable but good does that do a guest if they cannot sleep?! Wouldn't recommend this hotel if you want to sleep peacefully. A big letdown.

Yelp
This is one of my favourite places to eat. The food never dissapoints, is reasonably priced and would definately recommend.

Yelp
The room was very nice, clean, quaint. We ate in the restaurant and were the only people there. The person at the front desk was snarky for no reason. Price was good as was the location.

Yelp
A group of friends went out on Saturday for a meal and had one of the best meals in Orkney. The staff were attentive, good humoured and helpful. The decor is crisp, modern but warm and welcoming. (We were in the breakfast room, not 'matchmakers' which is a bit dated.) The food was really good (particularly the locally shot goose comfit), the service was swift (even though they were full and had a wedding party in next door), the deserts were tasty and more individual than much of the local fare. The veg was fresh, but probably excessive in quantity. This was the only minor shortcoming. I'd definitely go back in preference to others nearby.
